DH has cancer. (Diagnosed Jan 2024)
We were supposed to get married - at simple 2+2 ceremony at the end of the month but his Dr's etc encouraged us to bring the date forwards, so we got married yesterday in the hospital where my DH is being cared for.
I'm a week post major abdominal surgery.
We have 2 primary aged DC
It's our youngest DCs birthday this month.

I don't know what I want from this post but I can't stop crying.
I don't think that I know how break it to the DC that Daddy isn't going to get better and come home.
My head is swimming & I don't know what to do.

when my husband was first diagnosed with cancer McMillan were absolutely fantastic in helping me navigate what to say to the children. Please get in touch with them as they are specialists and can really help. They really take the time to listen and help.
There is very little that I or any other stranger here can do to help except wish you all our thoughts and best wishes. Good luck op x

I am so very very sorry that you, DH, and your little ones are going through this. Please, as you are able to, try to tke the space to create wonderful and loving memories for you and your dc to cherish. Your DH sounds like an amazing person and one who loves you (and is loved by you) very deeply. Am thinking of all of you all.

Not read through all the posts to see whether it has been mentioned before but the Ruth Strauss Foundation may be able to help.

I am so very sorry. I’m going through similar with my sister who is on end of life hospice care with no treatment left. She’s 35. It’s awful.

I hope you both have more time.

Sending love to you and your family, OP xxx

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 18/06/2025 20:37

Oh lovely, I'm not surprised you've spent the day in tears. It'll have been a distraction to bring the wedding forward and get it all organised, now it's over it's all catching up and hitting you. Even that on its own and your husband's cancer would be enough to floor you.
Get in touch with Maggie's or Macmillan about sharing with your children. They'll be able to give you practical as well as emotional support.
Sending you a hug and lots of thoughts. Life is giving you a serious kicking just now.

I’m so sorry, OP. Your poor heart, I’m tearful for you. Take courage through this hardship, and one day at a time. There’ll be sunshine again.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 18/06/2025 20:17

Everything you are feeling is valid. It's so unfair. It's going to be the worst time of your life but you still have him. Make the most of that. I lost mine without warning and wish I could have had even a few more minutes. Love him fiercely while he is here and tell him what he means to you. It's going to hurt but that is just a reflection of what you mean to each other. It will be hard and you won't feel like it for a long time but you will get through this and you will be unbreakable afterwards. Nothing will touch you. I am so sorry you are going through this. I know. Lean on friends and family and let them carry you. You don't need to do this alone.

ToysRus56 · 18/06/2025 20:14

Oh love, I just want to say you are so in my thoughts. From one stranger to another - I am so sorry you are going through this. So so sorry. Sending you love and strength

nadine90 · 18/06/2025 19:51

I’m so so sorry op. I’m always looking for a silver lining but sometimes there just isn’t one. This is so utterly shit.
I know you said family are great but they have their own stuff to deal with, please don’t let that stop you reaching out for their support. They probably want to move heaven and earth for you but don’t know how or what they can do for you. Lean on those around you as much as you need to. It’s ok to break and let loved ones catch you.
Sending so much love and strength to you xxx
