7 years for the boy and three for the girl. This country is pathetic sometimes. A man lost his life while innocently walking his dog. Too sad

Wow, who are you to decide that an older man’s worth is less that a young person’s? Sure, if that was your father, you’d have valued him more?

Edited, I Mis read the post you had quoted.

JMSA · 07/06/2025 06:55

As someone who works with challenging young people, I can GUARANTEE that these two will have had shit home lives.
I am not excusing their actions. Not for a moment. But family is generally at the root of everything. And these will be rotten at the core.

Surely unduly lenient sentencing and should be reviewed.

I am sure it will be - makes you question the Judges judgement thou' as there are an awful lot of people who think this was ridiculously lenient.

Are you saying an elderly persons life is worth more than a younger persons? If anything surely it’s worth less, the man was 80 so probably didn’t have many years left anyway. I’m not saying that makes it okay or less horrific, but are you really saying they should have got longer because the man was elderly than they would have if they’d killed a 20 year old, 40 year old, 60 year old?

What about Robert Thompson who killed James Bulger. Is he not proof of someone who has come through the system and punishment has worked for him.

It certainly didnt work for his pal - Jon Venables(?)

The Moors murderer Ian Brady wrote a fascinating book on violent criminality while in prison. (Iirc it is still available to buy on Amazon).

Much of the book is egotistical, sociopathic nonsense from the broken brain of a twisted child abuser - but he does argue that teenagers who commit horrific crimes are already damaged beyond repair and should be removed from society. Brady was caught tying a boy to a lamppost and torturing him when he was only 10 or 11 years old, and several years in an adolescent rehabilitation centre did nothing to curb his sadism. He was already a rapist-murderer in the making by the time he met Myra Hindley. In his opinion, sadists can never change.

The Tate thrower Jonty Bravery didn't stop at throwing a child off a tall building, either - he raped a fellow inmate, and violently bludgeoned a prison nurse, just months after being jailed.

One of Brianna Ghey's killers was also plotting more attacks while in youth prison. The Manchester arena bomber tried to kill a prison officer recently. The James Bulger killers carried on being child sex offenders. These leopards rarely change their spots.

To target a vulnerable, frail 80 year old is blatantlysociopathic. I'd also agree there was a racial element, and the boy didn't target an Asian boy his own age or even a middle aged woman... he picked a defenseless old man.

I could of course be wrong, but I can't imagine he will become a paragon of the community on release. The fact he tried to 'frame' Mr Kholi with such a blatant, laughable lie points to the kind of arrogant, personality disordered thinking that will likely make it impossible to reform him.

I can understand the hope that young teenagers might be able to grow as people and still make a decent life, so I can understand the wish to rehabilitate. I also understand that the boy had a dysfunctionai upbringing. So I suppose they have to be given a chance due to their ages. I agree the sentences should have been longer though.

However very sadly I don't know if somebody capable of knocking a defenceless old man to the ground and kicking him, then filming it could ever become a decent person. Especially the boy who told a pack of lies about poor Mr Kohli, claiming he had a knife and the boy was defending the girl from him. Ridiculous. Insulting his memory and giving his family more grief.

The judge saw through the boy's 'remorse', however he made ill judged remarks about the attack not being racially motivated. Clearly it was, imo. I should think the Asian community in Leicester will be furious about this and I wouldn't blame them.

What a vile comment! You should be ashamed for saying this man's life was worth less than a younger person's. I'm sure your parents and grandparents are very proud.

Well they didn’t see anywhere near 80 so I expect if alive they’d agree it’s not a bad age to go…

NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 06/06/2025 22:41

Ive not read all the comments - but the crime is abhorrent - and sentencing is just the same - I don't know what the sentence SHOULD be or where these 'kids' should be punished but I bet the family are rightly in absolute bits - I would be and (probably) very vengeful about it all.

Come on Keir, where will justice come from, if it doesn't come from you?

The Home Secretary, presumably, since Justice is their remit and nothing to do with the PM.

Eh? Justice is nothing to do with the PM?

As the leader of the country, and his prior life as a prosecutor, I would expect Keir to lead in the fight for justice. Whether he delegates to the Home Secretary, is up to him.

He has the power to make a difference, I would hope.

Portakalkedi · 06/06/2025 21:00

Our justice system is unbelievably poor at sentencing. So this pair will be out in half the stated time, to murder again. What a fucking joke.

theclampits · 06/06/2025 20:39

Yep shocking isn’t it. Frail old man beaten to death, his neck was broken!! That was a brutal attack. Poor Bhim and his family he’s left behind having to process this.
wtf is wrong with people and CHILDREN for that matter ?!

deeahgwitch · 06/06/2025 20:17

Can it be appealed ?

tonyhawks23 · 06/06/2025 20:17

I just read a quote that says "The more helpless the victim the Greater the crime" and I wish that was something the Judge would have felt. Is there a chance of appeal?

LemonLeaves · 06/06/2025 20:11

My heart breaks for Bhim Kholi's family. I can't even begin to imagine how they must feel - to lose a loved one in such a cruel and dreadful way. And then to have to live with "justice" having been done.

dollyblue01 · 06/06/2025 20:07

This is an absolute disgrace to that poor poor man and his family , 7 years for a life ? What kind of message does that send out to teenagers ? Disgusting he should have got life for a life.
cried reading it, was so so sad.

sprinklesandshines · 06/06/2025 20:04

Presumably this is because of how young they are, especially the girl. I think they feel like rehabilitation is less likely if the girl gets longer and ends up going to an adult prison. They likely want the boy to be out of prison when he is relatively young for similar reasons. A lot
of prosecutors believe the longer someone spends in prison the less likely they are to be able to be rehabilitated. I hope their families get investigated- what sort of parents and upbringing must they have had for their them to end up being murderers?

presumably they’ll have new identities on release?

StMarie4me · 06/06/2025 20:03

I am also angry about this.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 06/06/2025 19:59

It’s 10 in England. Different elsewhere in uk.

they are still children and this is therefore taken into account sentencing.

I still think it’s too lenient even for a child. I think most would agree. Just abysmal.

MintChocCat · 06/06/2025 20:00

Dutchesss · 06/06/2025 19:53

Imagine laughing at an old man being beaten to death. These aren't human, there is no rehabilitation for that level of depravity.

100%

BethDuttonYeHaw · 06/06/2025 19:59

CagneyNYPD1 · 06/06/2025 19:50

Yes, I absolutely understand that the offenders are children. I’ve worked with children for over 30 years. 12 and 14 year olds know right from wrong (apart from a very small minority).

The legal age of criminal responsibility in this country is 10. They committed a crime and should be punished accordingly, within the law.

But the fact that the judge declared that the attack wasn’t racially motivated is causing serious concern. Many, many people think that it was because of the language used by the defendants. If it the judge had decided that there was a racial element to the attack, the sentences would most likely have been longer.

Judges do make mistakes when sentencing and I think these sentences need to be reviewed as unduly lenient.
