I was messaging a guy I am seeing (early days) met on online dating and I said I’m just about to get a bath. His reply was ‘’wish I could be your little rubber ducky right now’’ With wink emoji. How would you respond ?!

So you told a guy you are starting to date that you are having a bath, and he flirted back at you.

I mean... what's the problem? If you like the guy, roll with it, if you don't then a bit of clumsy flirting is not really the difference between carrying on with it or not, is it?

Buy she didn't say that did she? She just said she was about have a bath.

She'd struggle to have a bath with her clothes on.

As for others, i tell my male friends i'm going for a bath/shower all the time in conversation if that's why we're ending it, same with going to make lunch or running errands.. are grown adults really treating the phrase 'going for a bath' like a 'i'm getting naked' invitation?

I think there's a difference between saying 'Right, better go, I need to jump in the shower before I go out' or something to a male friend, and mentioning that you're about to get into the bath to someone you're dating.

I think if I was dating someone and messaged them 'I'm about to get into a bath' I'd be moderately disappointed if they didn't at least hint that they might be imagining what that looked like.

Spot on. When I was dating DH I would text him I was getting a shower or bath purely for a reaction and then exchange a few dirty texts / pictures! All part of the fun of dating!

If I said I was getting in the bath and he said "Enjoy!" I would have been extremely disappointed 😂

Why would you even tell him you're having a bath?

This.

Another faux, wide-eyed post

"I told this man that I've been dating I'm about to strip off and get in the bath (for no reason whatsoever) and he replied with something... shock horror.... flirtatious. What do I do now???"

Kreepture · 05/06/2025 09:48

blimey, some fun sponges on here...

OP, if you're interested in the flirt, silly/clumsy as it is and want to encourage, you can respond with a jokey comment like
"You'll have to shake your tail feather for that privilege"

If you're not bothered and want to slow it down without completely shutting it down you can say "One day if you're a lucky duck"

If you want to shut it down completely then something like "Haha, cute idea, but no chance!"

It's a flirt, respond in kind or don't, depends if you're interested, and if you're not, then stop talking to him.

He fell into your thirst trap

rosemarble · 05/06/2025 09:38

In a potential dating situation, I'd think telling them you're getting in the bath might conjure up images of you naked.

If you are not at the stage of thinking of sharing your body with him and saying "I'm getting in the bath" was just a factual message then you're bound to find his response a bit much.

But if after a couple of dates you've got a good feeling about him then what he said is fine. A bit flirty. It's totally up to you though.

Sarahjayneisapain · 05/06/2025 09:32

Ewwww

TheRoundTable1983 · 05/06/2025 09:25

Send the barfing face emoji. This is the definition of 'ick' if ever I heard it! 🤣

Wolfpa · 05/06/2025 09:13

What response did you want after you told him you were getting in the bath?

RareGoalsVerge · 05/06/2025 09:07

No response. Block.

Unless what you are after is a text exchange of flirting, sexting and inuendo. That's what he wants obviously.

He's testing to see whether you want that. If you don't, then don't.

Cheesystick · 05/06/2025 09:04

IfIDid · 05/06/2025 08:40

Bad flirting is definitely sackable for me.

What would have been good flirting in response to her telling him she's about to have a bath ie be wet and naked?

whitewineandsun · 05/06/2025 08:52

I'd move slightly cringe into pure filth but that's just me.

Ha, same. But I wouldn't have told anyone I was about to get naked and wet if I didn't want them in the bath with me.

FOJN · 05/06/2025 08:49

If you don't know how to respond to a man you've already been on a few dates with then I think the help you need is beyond the remit of internet randoms.

Are you flattered/offended/put off? If you're mature enough to date you should be able to deal with this without an internet survey.

GroovyChick87 · 05/06/2025 08:47

I wouldn't really care about it. Sounds like he's attempting some kind of flirty talk without being extreme. You're dating him so where's the problem with that? I think you're overthinking one sentence.

DontTouchRoach · 05/06/2025 08:44

I think if you’ve had a couple of dates with someone and you message to tell them you’re about to do something that requires you to be naked, it’s not unreasonable for them to assume you might be trying to start some flirting at the very least.

I suspect he used the words he did in an attempt to respond in a way that lets you know he fancies you while also being jokey and light in case you’d be freaked out by something more explicit/intense.

How you respond is entirely dependent on how you feel about him and what you want to happen next.

My own response would be “That sounds like something a contestant on Blind Date would have said in about 1987. No need to be quite so coy.”

Cheesystick · 05/06/2025 08:43

You told him you're about to be wet and naked. He's trying to flirt. Don't you want to flirt? If you do, why not give it a go.

I'd probably reply - is that a typo.

I'd move slightly cringe into pure filth but that's just me.

Some of you need to get a life, Jesus
God forbid adults who are dating want to fuck

Itscoldinside · 05/06/2025 08:42

IfIDid · 05/06/2025 08:40

pictoosh · 05/06/2025 08:21

He thinks he's flirting I imagine.

Not a sackable offence to me.

Bad flirting is definitely sackable for me.

disappointedfox · 05/06/2025 08:34

Jfc the responses here are more cringeworthy and embarrassing than a silly harmless flirty text. No wonder some people struggle to date when they overanalyze every remark and want strangersto tell them how to feel.

pictoosh · 05/06/2025 08:21

He thinks he's flirting I imagine.

SabreIsMyFave · 05/06/2025 08:09

I think him saying 'rubber ducky' would have finished me. Ewwww, 😖

I gather you haven't been intimate yet @Tashhha ???

If not, then it's a bit much for him to say this IMO.

Swiftie1878 · 05/06/2025 08:06

A grown man using the word ‘ducky’ would be out, for me.
I don’t even speak like that to my DC.
