Friend having cosmetic surgery - why oh why ?

My friend was so naturally pretty - I’d say actually stunning. I hadn’t seen her for a few months. We met up this weekend. I was shocked - she’s had cosmetic surgery and it frankly looks awful . She tells me she’s having more . She said her sister is dead against it but she thinks her sister is jealous as she can’t afford it herself. I’m with her sister It’s quite upset me - she just no way needed it. I hope her self esteem wasn’t so low that she felt this would help. I think she was upset because I didn’t comment on it - but I just couldn’t think of anything positive to say. It’s none of my business - I’m just concerned that’s all .

I have a friend who from time to time she has Botox. When she has it done, her face looks amazing. When she doesn’t, she looks like her usual self, with wrinkles and whatever. Why would you have it done? As it is only once in a while, the difference is even more noticeable. The funny thing is that when she has it done, she tells us she just used a good scrub and a good facial mask. I feel like laughing every single time. I can afford Botox but just don’t see the point.

It’s lip fillers , and an extreme face lift . Yep it is her face but she was so so much prettier before

Ugh, I bet she looked much better before. Badly done fillers are horrible. There's nothing that you can say, but I agree with you that it's a great shame.

genuinely, if you don’t have anything positive to say, just change the subject.

personally I feel negatively about false lashes, range rovers, eating meat, tvs in kitchens and bedrooms, men with no tops on and people who go to the gym everyday.

but it’s nothing to do with me at all.

A former colleague of mine is an attractive woman. For some reason she decided to get lip fillers and they look absolutely atrocious.

I had hoped she would stop but that's been several years now.

Of all the procedures that can be done, I honestly think that lip fillers are the worst. It is so easy to overdo it and look clownish.

I once had a little bit of botox and filler and loved the result, but it was a very modest amount and only once (I couldn’t afford any more).

I’ve never actually seen anyone in real life who has had the sort of Love Island type work done but there does seem to be a tendency to look too similar to each other, which would put me off (I’m too long in the tooth now to bother with it anyway). If a friend had it done I’m not sure how I would react but I’d probably try and be complimentary even if I was 😱 in my head.

Looks like I really interrupted the bitch fest, going by these responses 😆 🤣 😂

Ah right, so it's more important to dissect the word "nterfere", than it is to show disapproval at bitchy comments about women's looks. Got it.

If your friend butchered herself , truly objectively butchered herself and you made an anonymous post voicing your concern would you consider yourself bitching or concerned?

What of your friend made some very dangerous lifestyle choices that worried you would you consider that bitching as well?

do you actually have friends? Do you care about them?

Yes terribly judgmental and starting a thread about it. I repeat, Interfering.

If she doesn’t interfere with what her friend has done then how is she interfering.

ShortyShorts · 02/06/2025 18:27

Have you ever had any friends @Dangermoo and if so, have you never worried about them?

Dangermoo · 02/06/2025 18:16

cardibach · 02/06/2025 18:11

That works. Totally changes the tone and meaning of your first comment though.

I still stand by it. OP and her oh so innocence, while saying her friend looked awful. Give her a pat on the back for not commenting. It's got naff all to do with her. Worried for her, yeah right.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 02/06/2025 18:14

obsessed with the beef happening above

OK, I will swap the word with bitching.

Interfering means to intervene in a situation. Totally different from starting an anonymous discussion about it which the person in question likely won’t see and won’t know it’s about her anyway. I don’t think I’d have started a thread, mind. But it’s not interfering to do so.

OK, I will swap the word with bitching.

Judging a woman's choice with what she does with her body is interfering if you start a thread about it under the guise of caring. 🙄There are some very defensive posters on this one. I wonder why.

Love how starting a thread on MN is now interfering. 🙄

It's a simple word but it's clear a tiny number of people don't understand its meaning.

Dangermoo · 02/06/2025 17:51

DogPaulAnka · 02/06/2025 17:49

Whether or not the thread is bitchy thats not what interfere means

Yes and you only have to see how defensive the comments are to my initial post!

I expect this is one of the many frequent posts where OP never returns, anyway.

Dodeedoo · 02/06/2025 17:37

Agreed! Just an excuse for a bitchy thread unfortunately

If asked for an opinion, I would probably lie. Cowardly but that's what I did recently, with a work colleague who had a full facelift. I mean what else could I do, say "Oh you spent thousands and you looked better before?".

I just smiled and said " You look great".

PorgyandBess · 02/06/2025 17:38

I think I’d take the approach of not saying anything at all if it looked awful. I’d also not proffer an opinion if asked.
