Is it just me 😂

My sister loves animated films, I'm sure she went to a few animated films pre-kid. I don't think it's weird.

Jammy0916 · 02/06/2025 14:55

Each to their own.. does not set alarm bells..

This is the kind of narrow minded thinking that makes men unable to be themselves/express themselves and make themselves unhappy by not being able to do the things that bring them peace.

Unless the cinema was empty and he sat right next to you why don't you mind your business.

I feel bad that men are judged for just existing. I mean they're still better off than us in lots of ways, but this poor guy was just existing.

Allaboutmememe · 02/06/2025 14:53

Whats wrong with it op.
I watch alsorts on my own cartoons as well including lilo and stitch.
I went to see the quite place on my own and sat next to a lad i was old enough to be his mother twice and a young lady the other side i was in the middle the place was packed.
Box trolls saw that on my own (crap by the way).
And my little pony the movie saw that as well and guess what a single man was in there watching it as well not many kids was in there at that time manly adults.
Finding nemo i watched that on my own as well twice due to the fact the first time the place was packed with familys and the kids was so loud,
So went back in school hours a week later and it was many adults less kids.

Yeah, still odd.

I've 3 dc from 17 down and couldn't even count how many kids films I've taken them to over the years. I don't think we've ever seen a lone adult watching a kids film in a cinema, ever.

It would be unusual. Odd. Uncommon. So it would draw my eye and I'd notice, absolutely.

All the cool girls on this thread who are adamant it's just so normal and happens so often they wouldn't even take note are rather funny.

But here’s the thing, you are the only one arguing your point. Everyone else is saying they wouldn’t care. I see single people in the cinema all the time. I might ‘notice’ a single man watching a child’s film but I certainly couldn’t jump to any weird conclusion about it.

It’s a film. He might have been desperate the watch it, he might have been at a loose end and thought i’ll go and see whatever's on, he might have kids and couldn’t go with them to see it but wanted to be able to chat to them about it, he’s a film reviewer, he’s an annual pass holder so will watch anything, he’s a Disney fan, he’s a L&S fan, his date stood him up, his kid got ill and couldn’t go…

the possibilities are endless!

I genuinely don’t understand what you think the person was doing if not just watching the film.

Littlebluecreature · 02/06/2025 14:14

Ok wasn’t trying to be awful at all, wasn’t judging him, feel bad now.
I love going to the cinema on my own, it was just the kids thing, that’s all

I hope he enjoys the film.

He has as much right to be there as you without needing to justify himself.

Nobody is saying he doesn't have a right to be there. You can bet your bottom dollar he would have been the most noticeable in the cinema, because of that particular movie. It doesn't mean he wasn't innocent. This man could have had learning difficulties, or just a huge fan of Lilo & Stitch. He could have gone for a reason because his child used to like it. It is sad we have to think of a reason that isn't so innocent, and all of the possibilities would have crossed my mind. I would lean towards, hope for the innocent explanations, though.

Twinstudy · 02/06/2025 14:50

I went to see Incredibles 2 on my own. I had a glass of wine and a lovely time 😁

Deathraystare · 02/06/2025 14:50

I would not go and see it but then I have no interest in Lilo and bloody stitch - which Primark clothing are full of!

However if it was something I fancied why not?

He may have felt 'down' and wanted to cheer himself up. He was on his own. I assume minding his own business? Unless he looked 'seedy' and was harassing kids- leave him to it. What an awful attitude towards a fellow person!!

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:33

I'm saying that yes, it's odd. Which is what the op asked.

You think it's not? So you think it's usual/ordinary?

Do you think it's common for adult men to go to the cinema and watch a kids films alone? Really? You see this often?

Bollocks you do 😂

It isn't a kid's film or a cartoon. It is a family film meaning it is meant for everyone to enjoy. The original film came out in 2002 meaning the children who loved it are now adults. It makes perfect sense that adults are going to see it. I went and saw it with my husband and 19 year old daughter with no kids because it is MY favorite Disney film. We certainly should have been shunned and kicked out 🙄

Changed18 · 02/06/2025 14:48

I had several weeks of taking my DD to a rehearsal that lasted 2.5 hours and was far enough from home to make it not worth going back. Rather than mooching round the local shopping mall, I used to go to the cinema and see whatever was on. Sometimes I'd miss the beginning, sometimes the end. Lots of different kinds of films. Maybe he was doing that.

latetothefisting · 02/06/2025 14:48

Blackdow · 02/06/2025 14:07

If he’s middle aged then he was a kid when the first movie came out and it light just be nostalgia. He isn’t doing anything wrong. Jesus. Cannot believe you’ve started a thread about this.

Is 33 middle aged now? Assuming he was max 10 to be the target audience for l&s in 2002.
That's depressed me 😆

But no op i wouldn't consider it that weird. Not a film I'd go to see without a kid but perhaps he has a pass so thinks may as well.

I think you and your judgy eyes are odd.

It isn't cool girl to not judge someone for doing a normal thing.

You're a busy body. Find some joy in your own life eh?

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:46

I don't think this is necessarily true.

It was so obviously an unserious comment.

Lindy2 · 02/06/2025 14:46

boringbiscuits · 02/06/2025 14:46

I can't see the issue tbh. I know plenty of people who enjoy going to the cinema on their own. If I'd seen him I'd have maybe thought 'was this film really his first choice' but it's up to him what he wants to watch, isn't it. Maybe he just wanted some peace 😆

spicemaiden · 02/06/2025 14:46

No.

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:46

ThatShyRoseViper · 02/06/2025 14:44

Don’t worry OP, if he was a pervert he’d choose somewhere he could actually see some kids rather than sit in the dark.

I don't think this is necessarily true.

RedemptionWeek · 02/06/2025 14:45

BurntBroccoli · 02/06/2025 14:25

Exactly! There was a post the other month about people who go for walks alone seen as odd.

I'm glad I didn't see that post, my DH works on some of my days off and we're avid ramblers, I love walking so need to go alone sometimes.

ShabbyRobedNun · 02/06/2025 14:45

I know a guy in sales, he travels all over the Country, he has a cinema pass so when working away from home he'll literally watch a movie a day, sometimes two to pass the time. Sometimes watches the children's films and if he thinks they were good he takes his children once he's home.

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:45

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 02/06/2025 14:42

You are being so unreasonable here. If he has a cinema membership card, like me, he may go and see every film released, like me. Adults make the films, OP. Why wouldn’t film-loving adults go to see them? Have you not watched Shrek, for example?

I think a lone middle aged man watching a film like this, with the predominant audience being parents and little kids, would stand out. It has real people in it, one of them a little girl. Maybe if it was the Garfield cartoon, or Paddington, op wouldn't have commented. There is a a few innocent reasons yes, and probably was perfectly fine, but of course he stands out.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 02/06/2025 14:44

What a mean post.

Plenty of adults love all that is Disney, and go to the theme parks on their own. They may not have kids / kids are grown up / escaping from them 😬.

Just let the bloke enjoy what he enjoys.

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:44

How are male film reviewers supposed to do their jobs if they have to always be accompanied?
