Here with Dd, only one other family here…and this guy, munching on snacks..watching Lilo & Stitch

Is it just me 😂

Yeah this is a really good analogy...well put.

However, equally amusing to watching people fall over themselves to prove how accepting they are on this thread is noting the stunning lack of reading comprehension in the replies to your post @GoodOldTrayBake

All the 'what are you on about, he wasn't dressed as a woman 😵‍💫 ' comments 😂. Come on people, liven up. Just maybe read it twice to make sure you understand before firing a reply 😂😂

And yet you're falling over yourself to double down on your opinion. Even though barely anyone agrees with you. Therefore you are the minority.

You can tinkle laugh that we are sheeples but in fact, I'd be very wary of knowing someone with an opinion like that.

Enjoy your "odd" smugness.

Itiswhysofew · 02/06/2025 16:13

I'd be curious, but not to the point of worrying about it.

greengreyblue · 02/06/2025 16:10

He may have been writing a review on the film.

GoodOldTrayBake · 02/06/2025 15:24

Yeh. It’s weird. Ignore the holier than thou bunch. They are the reason why the trans lobby were able to exert so much power and influence, because liberal people were falling over themselves to prove how accepting they are that they couldn’t bring themselves to call out weird behaviour. And by the way, I’m a liberal. I’m one of the so called metropolitan middle class elite. Only difference is I’m happy to call a spade a spade. A man dressed as a woman is still a biological man. A single man alone watching a kids film is weird.

Yeah this is a really good analogy...well put.

Lone man in children’s film - how awful he was judged by you when he’s done nothing wrong

maybe he has kids who had seen it and kept saying daddy, you’ve got to see it it’s brilliant!!!! So he went when they were at their mums so he could talk to them about it

maybe he likes disney

maybe he got free tickets

maybe his friend cancelled on him

i would hate it as a lone female, if people judged me for my film choice, ie why is that woman sat watching an action film alone??

not every man is a peadophile. Would you have said the same about a woman alone?

imisscashmere · 02/06/2025 16:08

Allaboutmememe · 02/06/2025 16:03

I was agreeing with you.
The poster you quoted sounds stuck up not just small minded pearl clutching i think mn calls them.

Gotcha. Well it’s certainly a small and judgemental mindset!

wwyd2021medicine · 02/06/2025 16:08

It may be underestimated how many men think they can't go places on their own for fear of offending.

In my job in healthcare, I have had several men tell me that they can't walk around the block where they live because they would walk past a school and someone would think that they were a weirdo. Cue long conversations re possible routes - I'm talking about people significantly lacking in confidence due to, for example, anxiety and depression. Also has applied to others with walking at local beauty spots.

Many commented that if they had a dog, it would be ok.

cremebruleee · 02/06/2025 16:06

So why did you start a thread about it then?

To have a giggle about the poor sad man on his own, I’m guessing.

Depressing that these attitudes don’t change beyond the school playground.

spirit20 · 02/06/2025 16:07

This thread has got to win an award for being peak mumsnet. I don't normally buy into the whole 'feeling sorry for men' thing, but christ, if they can't even go to the cinema by themselves, that's a bit grim.

From a logical point of view, if he did had any dodgy intentions, he wouldn't go to an almost empty screening at a time when all kids will be in school!

cremebruleee · 02/06/2025 16:06

Littlebluecreature · 02/06/2025 14:14

Ok wasn’t trying to be awful at all, wasn’t judging him, feel bad now.
I love going to the cinema on my own, it was just the kids thing, that’s all

So why did you start a thread about it then?

BuildbyNumbere · 02/06/2025 16:05

Unusual … but maybe he wanted to see it 🤷🏻‍♀️

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 02/06/2025 16:05

I'm getting Salem Witch Trial vibes 🤣

Allaboutmememe · 02/06/2025 16:03

imisscashmere · 02/06/2025 15:53

Are you suggesting I’m stuck up? Why?

I was agreeing with you.
The poster you quoted sounds stuck up not just small minded pearl clutching i think mn calls them.

momtoboys · 02/06/2025 16:02

Let the man be.

Pointynoseowner · 02/06/2025 16:02

Quick call the police ......🤣🤣🤣🤣

AutumnLover1989 · 02/06/2025 16:01

He may well have a cinema pass and is just getting his money's worth 🤷‍♀️

Sadmummy3 · 02/06/2025 16:01

If you think that's odd, my 18 and 16 year old have just come back from watching the Peppa Pig movie. They said it's a reminder of their childhood 🤣. Not sure if either of them would go on their own though.

ExpressCheckout · 02/06/2025 16:00

@Littlebluecreature wasn’t judging him

Yes, you were.

scalt · 02/06/2025 16:00

My DH (who was 18 at the time, and had rarely been to a cinema before) said he really hesitated to see Spiceworld the Movie on his own, in case people judged him.

AnotherThingToThinkAbout · 02/06/2025 15:59

Some stats:

  • Most Britons have gone to the cinema by themselves at some point
  • Going to the cinema by oneself, for example, is something three-quarters (75%) are comfortable to do
  • Men are more likely to have gone to the cinema (62% vs. 48%) by themselves.

https://business.yougov.com/content/50738-from-going-to-the-cinema-to-drinking-in-bars-which-activities-are-britons-comfortable-doing-by-themselves

It does say going to the cinema by yourself is not commonplace, but it is certainly not abnormal.

There is also research that suggests it is good for you: https://www.stylist.co.uk/life/cinema-alone-self-care-movies-films-anxiety-mental-health-mindfulness/246032

From going to the cinema to drinking in bars, which out-of-home activities are Britons comfortable doing by themselves?

We look at the social activities where Britons are content to go solo.

Ajayo · 02/06/2025 15:59

Can’t believe someone shoehorned the trans debate into this.

whitewineandsun · 02/06/2025 15:59

BeliesBelief · 02/06/2025 14:09

So you’re on your phone, posting on Mumsnet, while at the cinema? Of the two of you, I’d say it’s you whose behaviour is out of line here.

Agreed. People on their phones in the cinema are fucking annoying.

Disturbia81 · 02/06/2025 15:59

I hope these responses have made you look at yourself OP and learnt not to be judgemental, not so small minded. You sound like those people who think it’s weird for adults to like disney.

ginasevern · 02/06/2025 15:58

Smoulderdash · 02/06/2025 14:19

@Littlebluecreature would you think it was weird if he was female?

I’m asking because I’m trying to pluck up the courage to go to the cinema solo (unsure which film..) following the recent breakdown of my marriage. Maybe I’ll be judged though?!

I doubt it. Not many women go to the cinema for a wank.

GameOfJones · 02/06/2025 15:58

Were you in a cinema in Berkshire? This could so easily be my BIL. He has an annual cinema pass and goes to see anything and everything, at least two films a week. Films are his hobby and he writes reviews on his blog as a sort of amateur film critic.

I may ask him if he was watching Lilo & Stitch but I'm sure he'll be going to see it. I feel it really sad that people would imply he is a predator because that is the implication of their judgement and surprise.
