Shocking, I know. 😂 I think a local byelaw’s being drawn up - nobody to walk round here without a spouse or a pet. I’ll have to get a lead for the cat.

Well, you can if you're female. But if you're a male you are not allowed to leave the house without a wife, child or pet in tow to prove you are an upstanding member of society and not a weirdo. Because what possible reason would a man have for wanting to go out ALONE apart from being a predator?!

🙄

I'm usually there on my own.

Same here.

I used to go to the cinema on my own when I was a student. Now that I'm a crone, I do the same.

This has to be the most ridiculous time to have been called a "cool girl" by this shit show of a site

I've seen MNers call posters "cool girls" and "pick me's" for saying that it's wrong to lie to your partner about being on the pill. Pretty sure that takes the cake!

Cynic17 · 02/06/2025 16:50

What's the problem? I always go to the cinema on my own.
OK, so it's a kids film, but he's allowed to watch that. This is a non issue.

lalalalalady · 02/06/2025 16:48

YABU! I think it’s sweet. Maybe he has special needs/ autism and likes cartoony films (my son does), maybe he doesn’t and just wanted to watch the film, so what? I could happily sit and watch a child’s film on my own. He isn’t harming anyone, stop being so judgmental and mean.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/06/2025 16:47

It's odd you noticing him and then posting about it.

Why shouldn't an adult go to the movies alone? As you say yourself it's aimed at a younger audience, but refers to a cartoon from 20 years ago. So he could be an old school fan. But maybe none of his mates are and so he went by himself.

If it was a group of ten 40 yo men would that seem more or less weird?

Anyway just watch the screen. Imagine if he posted on a forum saying he though you or your family looked out of place or peculiar while enjoying a film?!

I’m still processing @Daisymaybe60 going for a walk without her husband. Shock

YABU

There's loads of kids films I enjoy watching.... I have DC so can use them as an excuse to go and watch.... I wouldn't be brave enough to go on my own because of judgy people like you 😅

DoctorRoseReturns · 02/06/2025 16:46

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 16:33

No ones forcing you to be here. Just go find a better site if you hate this one 👋

Someone has to try and be sane

Like not trying to make out a man is a weirdo for watching a film alone and not calling women names because they don't agree with you

Pickingmyselfup · 02/06/2025 16:46

I saw a man who I assumed to be at the cinema alone when I went with the kids at Easter to watch Minecraft. I freely admit I did wonder why but it didn't bother me enough to ask others about it. As it turned out he was actually with some kids but sat further away, I'm assuming a grandparent tasked with supervising from afar.

I think it's fine to wonder about everything in life and everybody can be judgemental but as long as it's not hurting anybody then let them be.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 02/06/2025 16:44

GoodOldTrayBake · 02/06/2025 15:24

Yeh. It’s weird. Ignore the holier than thou bunch. They are the reason why the trans lobby were able to exert so much power and influence, because liberal people were falling over themselves to prove how accepting they are that they couldn’t bring themselves to call out weird behaviour. And by the way, I’m a liberal. I’m one of the so called metropolitan middle class elite. Only difference is I’m happy to call a spade a spade. A man dressed as a woman is still a biological man. A single man alone watching a kids film is weird.

What absolute, irrelevant bollocks.

You shouldn't be on your phone in the cinema.

ExercicenformedeZ · 02/06/2025 16:42

Maybe log a call with 101, just in case. I mean, according to people on this very site, there is a paedophile on literally every street. In fact, that's a conservative estimate. Make that five on every street. Better be overvigiliant than too trusting.
(biggest /s in the universe. Just in case that wasn't clear!)

OnlyTheBravest · 02/06/2025 14:50

This is the kind of narrow minded thinking that makes men unable to be themselves/express themselves and make themselves unhappy by not being able to do the things that bring them peace.

Unless the cinema was empty and he sat right next to you why don't you mind your business.

Yep. I'm really pleased to see the vast majority of posts supporting him.

For all the benefits of being make, this is a huge downside. A lone middle aged man, whether going for a walk in the woods, or going to the cinema on his own, has to worry about seeming 'odd' (or worse) whereas I can have my daily evening walk in the woods and go to the cinema to watch a family film on my own, without having to worry what people might think.

What in the world has this got to do with trans issues for or against? This man was not identifying as a woman.

The only point of relevance that I can see, is that people are probably more likely to think they must really be of the opposite gender, if anything that they do that isn't absolutely conventional for their sex role is promptly 'called out' as 'weird'.

It’s weird yes. The single best thing about kids getting older is that you no longer have to waste hours of your life suffering the torment of enduring shit like Alvin & the Chipmunks. Doing it voluntarily to yourself is incomprehensible to me. Mind you, quite enjoyed the Minions movies.

Oh no, you've just reminded me of Alvin and The Chipmunks. I had erased that from my memory.

I've just watched the trailer for Lilo & Stitch and it's definitely not something I"d choose to go and see.

I loved Cars though and made my DS and DH go and watch it me.

I would have probably wondered why he was there but as long as he wasn't doing anything weird I wouldn't think more about it.

LoyalMember · 02/06/2025 16:36

I go out for a pint on my own occasionally. I suppose I'm really just casing the joints for potential rape victims or old folk I can mug.

Go! Don't let judgy people on social media stop you doing this. It's a them problem.

Beerhy · 02/06/2025 16:35

I’m a 31 y/o woman and watched inside out 2 on my own in a cinema full of kids. Cried my eyes out. I didn’t give a F about the kids in the cinema. Lilo and stitch was a huge movie when we were kids, maybe he just needed a pick me up? Unless he was sat rubbing his thighs staring at your kids give people minding their own business a break.

ginasevern · 02/06/2025 16:35

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 02/06/2025 16:19

I think you must be more used to a different kind of cinema... the kind that doesn't normally show films like Lilo & Stitch.

All of the vast array of nasty stuff that is available on the Internet, yet you assume that a man's choice of material for some 'self love' would be a family film at the pictures?

If you regularly go to the cinema and sit there staring at men's groins in the dark, they probably assume that you are the pervert about whom everybody should be on their guard.

Over the course of my pretty long life I have indeed been aware of blokes having a fiddle at absolutely ordinary mainstream cinemas. The type of film or time of day has been totally irrelevant. I do live in a big city and the cinemas in question are city centre ones, rather than the out of town retail park multiplexes. I do agree though, you would've thought it was old hat with all the porn available and actually a dirty rain coat cliche/joke but I'm not making it up I promise.

If he’s middle aged then he was a kid when the first movie came out and it light just be nostalgia. He isn’t doing anything wrong. Jesus. Cannot believe you’ve started a thread about this.

Middle aged?! It only came out in 2002, so if he was a kid when it came out he'd be in his 30s...
