So I work and DH is retired. We have a dog. I work 4 days a week . On the days I work DH walks the dog in the morning and I walk it in the evening. My days off we swap it around.
There is a group of dog walkers that meet in the morning. One man thinks its hilarious to ask if Ive enjoyed my sleep in/ lazy day/ sending DH out while I relax ect.
every single time I see him. 2 years of me just ignoring him / saying I work ect.
I work in a unit that deals with palliative care. Yesterday was a bloody hard day.
So this morning he said it must be nice to laze about on a Sunday and send DH out so I let him have it with both barrels - told him ( in rough terms) what my day consisted of. That I was up and out by 6am. Long drive. The realities of my job.
He was silent. Got home and his wife has watsapped to say Ive upset him !@@.
AIBU to think he deserves it.

@pimplebum and @Sagepage are 2 more posters with internalised misogyny who need to read the OP updates. She was not “exploding” she’s said she explained clearly and calmly what her job involves. The fact he has run home to get his wife to fight for him is up to his character, not hers.

I agree with @spicemaiden- women should be able to defend themselves without being characterised as mad, angry <insert sexist stereotype of your choice here>

She said she gave him “both barrels” that literally means to go at someone with a high level of aggression. I have never said she should’ve accepted it, just I don’t know why she let it go on for two years! I repeatedly said she should’ve told him off sooner.

......and Annoying Fucker has left the Watsapp group.

Yaaaaaayyyy WIN

I bet you wouldn’t have spoken like that if a woman had made the same joke.

oh here we go. FFS. A woman likely wouldnt make the same sexist “joke” and not for 2 years. 2 years!

Sorry @Guttyyyyyyyyy i wasn’t claiming you had gone full meltdown. It’s just the language used by previous poster indicated that they thought ‘properly served’ was an appropriate way to deal with someone, when it sounds like they are advocating for someone to kick off if this situation arose.

Back-pedalling faster than a circus acrobat.

You said “act disproportionately, as in this case” - clearly meaning you think OP went off on one. Now you’ve been corrected by OP, you’re trying to pretend you didn’t say that.

Nah.

Spinachpastapicker · 04/06/2025 09:11

Guttyyyyyyyyy · 02/06/2025 13:37

I didnt go full meltdown, no tears, shouting , swearing or stamping of feet.
I am a 52 year old professional in healthcare not a toddler.
Believe it or not giving information in a concise manner is part of my job .
I gave him the full, unvarnished lowdown on what I was actually doing yesterday, nothing more.

Love this response to that poster, OP. Good on you.

Spinachpastapicker · 04/06/2025 09:06

Boreded · 02/06/2025 13:31

What are you talking about?

and also…‘properly served’ - if you don’t like what someone says then tell them, nobody need to go full meltdown, just tell them politely that you don’t appreciate their comments and move on. It doesn’t have to be a race to the bottom

OP had pointed out again and again for 2 fucking years to Twuntychops that she was working. He never took heed. What else was she supposed to do? And saying she “went full meltdown” has an undertone of the misogynistic “hysterical wummin” - she may have been perfectly calm while giving him his dressing down.

You ARE defending him by continually saying OP is wrong in her actions. She’s not. You are. And it’s getting tedious now.

You do see that it was suggested a few years ago that he leave

but he stayed

they kept him on the WhatsApp group etc

despite knowing he was a bully years ago

That was a different group! A community gardening group, not the dog walking one.

2chocolateoranges · 02/06/2025 08:48

Good for you sticking up for yourself comments like that get tiresome.

I had a friend who used to always comment on my long lies and lazy days when I was a SAHM. She's no longer a friend.

I used to get 'what's it like being a lady of leisure?' from a few different people when I was caring for my NEWBORN daughter. Honestly some people can p*s the p*s off!

You can’t just kick someone off a dog walk. If someone told me I’m not welcome to walk my dog at 10 in a morning at the beach, I’d laugh in their face! Honestly I didn’t think walking your dog could result in so much drama. I got my dog to get myself exercised and outdoors, seeing it as relaxing and chilled. Didn’t realise there was all this Jeremy Kyle drama going on for something as mundane as going out for a walk with dog in tow.

He can walk on the beach but he may find himself unwelcome to join the group.

No, you seem to have misunderstood.

It was a community gardening club that he was asked to leave years ago and he did.
The majority of us only found out about this today.

You aren't being unreasonable to shut down his passive aggressive nastiness.
You are being unreasonable if you were aggressive about it in response. Being annoyed (rightly, imo) doesn't justify a "both barrels" reply.

Why ? She’s dealt with his misogynistic shit as politely as she could for two years, explaining that the reason she’s not on all the dog walks is because she works. But he kept on and on, doubling down on his little ‘joke’. Sometimes ‘both barrels’ is the only thing some people understand.

EleanorReally · 03/06/2025 19:08

Thesecondcoff · 03/06/2025 17:34

did you read all the exchanges amongst this group yesterday… people jumping in with their views on him, people “liking” comments….

if I was a dog walker in this group, I’d have muted notifications about 10 mins in. And probably found myself a different group to meet going forward. Who wants that kind of messaging drama in their lives!

But they don’t have to worry now do they, because the Nasty Fucker has left and his flying monkey (wife) will either leave or keep quiet now.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 03/06/2025 18:52

Guttyyyyyyyyy · 03/06/2025 10:10

Back from dog walk and a coffee afterwards. No sign of Annoying Fucker.
However 2 other people say she contacted them after I replied to her as her H wasn't entirely honest with her. Told her that all he had said was hello and I screamed and shouted at him. Other witnesses confirmed that firstly he had made his lazy comment twice first time I replied with " No AF I work Sundays, I tell you most weeks ." so 2 mins later he said it again. And secondly that I didnt raise my voice at all, one described my tone as akin to a primary school teacher.
Also found out that it was suggested he leave a community gardening group a few years ago due to a bullying incident ( against a woman)
He took early retirement, is early 60's.
So thats that. I feel sorry for his wife though. .

Eww what a loser. Can just imagine him running back to his wife “Waah waah, mummy, the nasty woman shouted at me” 😂

I agree, poor her!! Hopefully this makes the penny start to drop that he is the arsehole, not everyone else…

GintyM · 03/06/2025 18:07

Do not reply to his wife, no response IS a response. You were absolutely not unreasonable. Two years of snide comments and you finally told him the truth – he’s just not used to being held accountable. People like that dish it out but can’t take it when someone calmly outlines reality.

You didn’t shout or insult him – you told him what your days actually involve. If that made him feel awkward, maybe it’s time he stopped making assumptions about people’s lives.

I’d ignore the WhatsApp. If anything, his wife should be embarrassed he kept on with the lazy jibes for two years. You don’t owe them anything – carry on walking your dog with your head high.

Absolutely remove from the WhatsApp group, but OP suggests that they all just usually meet up at the same time daily on the beach for a dog run around kind of activity, rather than an actual walk. If the guy turns up with his dog at the beach, he can hardly be demanded to leave. People can ignore him, but can’t dictate who can or can’t be at the beach at the same time as they are on any particular day. Anyway, leaving this thread. Can’t believe I’m getting so invested in this….

Point is… they didn’t remove him did they?

they “meet” every morning
they’re part of a WhatsApp group

I’m not saying they can tell him to leave, @Livelovebehappy - but they can make it clear he isn’t welcome in their group on the beach. He can walk his dog on his own.

Yup

nothing would make that point more clear than removing him from the WhatsApp group. However… Never happened

Thesecondcoff · 03/06/2025 17:29

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/06/2025 16:26

Maybe he was doing it carefully, so the individuals who were targeted didn’t realise they weren’t the only ones he was doing it to, @Thesecondcoff - and it’s only now that one person has spoken out, they are all realising it was part of a pattern.

Immediately other members of the group, actually the OP’s good male friend, jumped in and said he was aware of AF only doing this to women. So he’s heard, and done squat all! Just riding the wave of OP’s strength of character to confront him.
