Cleaner threw away/moved/stole my secret booze stash

I rarely drink, I haven’t since Dv was born and since Peri kicked in and made me ill, every time I did.
Things have been stressful recently and Ive been having the odd drink on the balcony at sunset on my own. I usually don’t drink it all and usually put the remainder behind my bedroom patio shutters outside

Anyway, I came to have some tonight and they’ve all gone, cleaners came yesterday so an assuming it’s them as they clean the patio area too

Why would they do that?

In what way? It’s possible…I vowed never to be drunk in front of her, she has seen me with a ass of champagne on occasions at friends parties etc, but doesn’t notice. There’s a difference between this and my dad taking a bottle of red wine upstairs most nights when I was younger. She has seen me a dh socially and not lots. I don’t know, i’m not keen on her seeing me just sat at home drinking, probably is a bit weird

If you're really not keen on her seeing you sitting drinking at home then just don't do it....

What is it you are drinking?
Surely your child has no idea what it is so why hide it?

It’s only small Somersby

Maybe he polished them off. You need to ask him before you fire the cleaner.

I wouldn’t fire her, just curious why she possibly might do this

Op, absolutely nobody who doesn’t have problems with alcohol has a “secret booze stash”, hidden outside their house.

It’s to hide from Dd, ive said this. Pre Dd we just had wine/beer in the fridge like normal people. Its also because I sit up there, so Dh doesn’t pinch it etc

Because there is nothing wrong with having a small cider in the house every now and then putting it outside is making it something shameful and I think you see it that way.

I think your dislike of your Dads drinking has given you disordered thinking around drinking in the house and around your DD

But you do have drink in the house, and you do just hide it....

You’re drinking in a classic alcoholic fashion. And regardless of whether you admit it, you know that. Get help.

So leaving it on the patio is ok because that means you "don't have alcohol in the house"? You're fooling yourself.

That my Dd can see/find no

As I said above I don’t feel the need to hide it, just not a fan of drinking in front of Dd. My dad was/is an alcoholic (he wouldn’t say so, but he is) I hated seeing him drink, I vowed to not have booze in the house, which we don’t as I barely drink normally and Dh will have a few with colleagues on a Friday night, we don’t buy in anymore since Dd was born

Stop saying you barely drink. You do drink and your hiding it

As I said, only recently and it’s every few days, one bottle if that, compared to everyone I know that is barely drinking, its also a very low alcohol and small bottle, I haven’t had wine, spirits, beer etc for 7 or so years

I doubt it was the cleaners.

It's much more likely that your secret drinking isn't a secret anymore and your DP has binned it.

He wouldn’t though, if he found he’d either put in the fridge or polish them off himself

I wouldn’t have thought he’d even see it there, he wouldn’t be concerned as I barely drink, if anything he’d drink it, but don’t think that has happened

Nobody on MN can know why your cleaners might do anything, why don't you just ask them?

Gattopardo · 01/06/2025 21:38

Yeah they’re in a non standard place. I work as a cleaner sometimes and if I found bottles outside I’d definitely presume they’d been left there by accident/ because of untidiness. And remove them.

Your cleaner may also think you are an alcoholic and not know what to do with the empties and full ones.

Either way, keep them in your fridge, job done.

KnewYearKnewMe · 01/06/2025 21:37

It is annoying if you wanted it, though, OP. Sorry about that 😡

Have they put them in the fridge? What was it?

Not in the fridge, just small Somersby bottles

OP posts:
CopperWhite · 01/06/2025 21:36

Maybe they tidied them into a cupboard or something thinking that behind patio shutters was a strange place to keep drinks.
