.... and need to be abolished, along with pink French Fancies, decaff coffee and jammy red wine.

Prove me wrong.

M&S Fondant Fancies, nicer that Mr Kipling!

Turkish delight should also be abolished

God, I love Turkish delight! The posh stuff, though, not the pink jelly. You should be able to taste mastic, rose and nuts 😋

FreddoSwaggins · 31/05/2025 14:03

Down with French Fancies!!!

Yes to Jelly Babies!!

Applies to all colours of each, because I don't discriminate.

<scoffs smugly>

Gowlett · 31/05/2025 14:03

Green ones, no ta! Black ones are nice.

I thought all Jelly Babies tasted the same!

Totally agree re decaf and jammy wine though.

I have no thoughts on French Fancies but come the revolution those Battenberg monsters will be abolished.

Go and buy a packet of jelly babies. Sample each colour. You will find out you are very much mistaken. You will also find out blackcurrant ones are simply the best.

NicolaCasanova · 31/05/2025 14:01

Don’t think I’ve ever had a blackcurrant Jelly Baby.

Pink French Fancies are the best.

Decaff can get in the (compost) bin.

O la la, how French are the Fancies, anyway? 👩‍🍳

MoominMai · 31/05/2025 13:40

@MatildaMovesMountains argh yes! Pink French fancies just taste of nothing except am intense sweetness no flavour completely pointless! Yellow ones yum! I really like the white winter ones they do at Xmas also. Though that said, the price of FF is shocking these days so been a few years!

When was the change from Fondant Fancies to French Fancies?

in the 70s!!

Except when it was cold (often in my Northern childhood) the chocolate used to shatter and fly off everywhere.

😆 🤣 😂

Yes. I loved them. They took quite a lot of chewing, like the old Curly Wurly before reformulation. Which was a good thing.

😂 oh yes, miss the chewy curly wurlies. Now it's ike sinking your teeth on a sponge.

Correct order for eating all jelly-type sweets, ranked from "delicious" to "will only eat as there are no others left": black, red, orange, yellow and finally, green (bleugh).

So, op, YABVVU

This is the most sensible post I've ever read on here.

Blackcurrant jelly has some pizzazz yet I find strawberry bland. I wonder if it's the rich colour of blackcurrant that makes it appealing? 🤔

The colour may be appealing, but the taste is appalling.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/05/2025 13:22

The green ones are the best. Ditto fruit pastilles

MatildaMovesMountains · 31/05/2025 13:22

What about those sweets that combine chocolate and liquorice? Is hanging too good for them?

Do you remember the gorgeous coloured Toffos? I can't think if there was one flavour I didn't like.

Yes. I loved them. They took quite a lot of chewing, like the old Curly Wurly before reformulation. Which was a good thing.

When was the change from Fondant Fancies to French Fancies?

Hasn't it been French Fancies with Mr Kipliing for years?

YABVVU. Blackcurrant is the best flavour of any sweet.

I always try and snaffle the yellow ones before anyone realises!

That's it, I'm calling our engagement off. Sneakypants.

All jelly babies are good jelly babies (unless Haribo). This is a scientific FACT. Blackcurrant jellies babies are the best, but I do accept this is currently (currantly?) unproven. I am, however, prepared to carry out extensive scientific research into this.
