2nd Date, he embarrassed me in a restaurant

Am I over reacting here? I suspect I might be.

1st date went well, 2nd date today. We went for for late/early dinner. nice restaurant. We got talking about Austria, Switzerland etc and he said “I can yodel”. I just laughed so he said “I can show you?” So I laughed again and said “in the middle of a restaurant?”

He then started yodelling loudly. I swear everyone turned around and looked at us. I’m normally pretty passive and would usually just quietly die inside but on this occasion I was beyond embarrassed, absolutely mortified and snapped “Shush!”

He laughed and said “what?” So I said “seriously? We’re in the middle of a restaurant”. He said sorry (whilst still laughing) and tried to change the subject but I couldn’t get past it. Who does that?

I don’t like being centre of attention and yes I embarrass easy. I ended up going home early as I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. He’s messaged me since asking if everything is ok, I don’t think he’s actually associating my change in mood to the yodelling incident!! Making me think maybe I’m over reacting??

You’re evidently not compatible. Don’t see him again
He will need to click with a woman who likes his SoH And Yodelling

coxesorangepippin · 30/05/2025 20:15

Terrible

Curtains for me

ilovesushi · 30/05/2025 20:15

That does sound hilarious. I am sure the other diners had a lot of empathy for you.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 30/05/2025 20:11

I’d die of embarrassment but also be a bit impressed that he was brave enough to do it. As long as he knew not to do it again anywhere I was!

Omg! 😄😄 no, youre not at all, he needs to be chucked back! Psychotic behaviour

Uninhibited perhaps. Hardly psychotic.
Still if @RTooDeeTo can't get past it, she is of course quite free not to see him again.

ClimbEveryLadder · 30/05/2025 20:07

That would be it for me. He’s attention seeking and doesn’t care about the comfort of other diners or the staff.

2 dates it’s just not worth investing anymore time

VoltaireMittyDream · 30/05/2025 20:03

This would give me such intolerable ick. There’s a very particular type of man who behaves this way, and also probably does historical re-enactments at the weekend / owns a selection of onesies / has weirdly long fingernails filed to points.

Mydahliasareshit · 30/05/2025 20:02

Attention seeking men are really hard work. You can never relax or fully trust when you never know when the next impromptu performance will be. It's always about them and how fucking 'gregarious' and 'people person-y' they are. He will shrink you if you let him.

Glitchymn1 · 30/05/2025 19:59

🤣I’m not sure this happened.

MrBlobbyScaresMe · 30/05/2025 19:58

🤣I'd have been so embarrassed. I'd probably give him one more chance but I feel like this is just the first of a list of things to come.

Left · 30/05/2025 19:56

I think I’d hate this.

But also I’m over invested - I really wanted to know how skilled he was at yodelling?

tuvamoodyson · 30/05/2025 19:55

Is he Frank Ifield? I would have been embarrassed too OP. 🙈

GreyCarpet · 30/05/2025 19:53

You're just not compatible.

I very much doubt he's done it to test your boundaries 🙄 but it might well have been done to test your compatibility.

real13 · 30/05/2025 19:53

I think he was trying to be flirty and funny because he wants to impress you and make you laugh.

I would also be mortified and be thinking ‘shut the fuck up’. I wouldn’t let it put me off this time, but if this sort of thing happens again then I would call it a day.

SeaFloor · 30/05/2025 19:52

Ponoka7 · 30/05/2025 19:45

I don't think that you are compatible and you don't seem to be able to be honest, or communicate what is bothering you, so any relationship isn't going to work.

This. I mean, there’s no right or wrong here. You’re just incompatible. I’d probably have been amused, if I found him attractive and was liking him. If I didn’t, I would probably have imagined him yodelling in the throes of orgasm, got a giant attack of the ick, feigned sudden illness or climbed out the bathroom window.

Ouvavuuu · 30/05/2025 19:52

It all depends on how good the yodelling was. If it was terrible, I’d definitely have the ick. If it was great, I’d probably find it pretty entertaining.

Thricewasundone · 30/05/2025 19:52

Was he good at it? Was it proper yodelling?

Butteredradish3 · 30/05/2025 19:51

My DH does daft stuff and I cringe and laugh. Could imagine him doing this back when we started dating. It didn’t/doesn’t annoy me or gross me out. I feel embarrassed but also find it very funny! I also admire how chilled he is and that he just has fun and doesn’t care what others think! If this is how y feel then maybe he isn’t the one for you!

Pinkelephant66 · 30/05/2025 19:51

YABU. This is hilarious

Icedcaramelfrappe · 30/05/2025 19:51

I wouldn't feel embarrassed as he did it not you but if you didnt liek it then just dont go on a third date. No drama

Fgfgfg · 30/05/2025 19:50

Up an alp, no problem. In a restaurant, no.

BIWI · 30/05/2025 19:50

Nope. HTH.

TheOmbudsmansComingtoGetYou · 30/05/2025 19:49

lol he’s just different to you. He’s not “testing boundaries ffs. But yodelling in a restaurant would give me the ick to be fair.

arcticpandas · 30/05/2025 19:49

That would be it for me. It just shows that he has no respect for other people who want to enjoy their meal and conversation without some clown yodeling to impress his date. Outside, no problem. In a restaurant, never. Ditch him.

AgnesX · 30/05/2025 19:49

Depends on what sort of a restaurant it was. Either way it doesn't sound like you're on the same wavelength.

Move on.
