2nd Date, he embarrassed me in a restaurant

Am I over reacting here? I suspect I might be.

1st date went well, 2nd date today. We went for for late/early dinner. nice restaurant. We got talking about Austria, Switzerland etc and he said “I can yodel”. I just laughed so he said “I can show you?” So I laughed again and said “in the middle of a restaurant?”

He then started yodelling loudly. I swear everyone turned around and looked at us. I’m normally pretty passive and would usually just quietly die inside but on this occasion I was beyond embarrassed, absolutely mortified and snapped “Shush!”

He laughed and said “what?” So I said “seriously? We’re in the middle of a restaurant”. He said sorry (whilst still laughing) and tried to change the subject but I couldn’t get past it. Who does that?

I don’t like being centre of attention and yes I embarrass easy. I ended up going home early as I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. He’s messaged me since asking if everything is ok, I don’t think he’s actually associating my change in mood to the yodelling incident!! Making me think maybe I’m over reacting??

That reminds me of the scene in the Santa Clause 2 where the lady Tim Allen is on a date with starts singing a Christmas themed song to the tune of Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain - maybe people thought you were film stars?!

I absolutely died inside laughing at that bit 😂 I would 100% be a Tim Allen and sink into my chair!

TwistedWonder · 30/05/2025 20:40

I wouldn’t have got through the date. I’d have gone to the ladies and not returned.
I can’t stand show offs and this would have made me cringe so hard I couldn’t get past it.

Imbusytodaysorry · 30/05/2025 20:37

@RTooDeeTo he is an attention seeker and happy to be at your expense/embarrassment

Move on op

Trying so hard to make something fit, without success.

Guavafish1 · 30/05/2025 20:36

Chill out

SouthLondonMum22 · 30/05/2025 20:35

I don't think you overreacted. I'd be wondering what other inappropriate things he'd do in public places and I'd be annoyed that he disturbed other people trying to eat.

Tessiebear2023 · 30/05/2025 20:30

He stopped when you asked him to, so I don't understand why you're giving him such a hard time over it? I'd find it entertaining and funny personally - as long as he didn't do it to the point of pissing people off. You didn't like it, he obviously thought you would (otherwise I'm sure he wouldn't have done it), and that's fine. C'est la vie. I don't get why you're so cross with him though, he's showing concern by asking how you are, he clearly didn't do it to ruin your day, so stop taking it so personally. It's fine to not like that sort of thing, but it doesn't make him some sort of terrible person.

Duckyfondant · 30/05/2025 20:29

I'd find that quite entertaining, so whilst you may be incompatible, please don't tell him he's done something wrong.

Justchillinhere · 30/05/2025 20:28

Only you can answer that but I'm the same, hate being the centre of attention. I'd slide down that chair and skidaddle out the exit asap

ilovesooty · 30/05/2025 20:08

Uninhibited perhaps. Hardly psychotic.
Still if @RTooDeeTo can't get past it, she is of course quite free not to see him again.

😭😭 a man yodelling at a restaurant on a date? Insane behaviour

*not literally but almost literally

CustardySergeant · 30/05/2025 20:26

He obviously likes to be the centre of attention, which you don't, so this might well be only the first of many embarrassing dates if you continue seeing him.

Also, what's a late/early dinner? It's one or the other surely. 😕

Mydahliasareshit · 30/05/2025 20:02

Attention seeking men are really hard work. You can never relax or fully trust when you never know when the next impromptu performance will be. It's always about them and how fucking 'gregarious' and 'people person-y' they are. He will shrink you if you let him.

Well said.

gamerchick · 30/05/2025 20:23

Was he any good at it?

I'd probably find it really funny. But you don't and you're obviously not a good match. It's good you've found out now though early doors.

whitewineandsun · 30/05/2025 20:21

I'd have been looking for a hole in the ground. Who would do that in the middle of a restaurant? That's just so strange. YANBU.

Zone2NorthLondon · 30/05/2025 20:19

I expect he’s that performative type - only me,speak as I find, comedy socks and impressions

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/05/2025 20:19

VoltaireMittyDream · 30/05/2025 20:03

This would give me such intolerable ick. There’s a very particular type of man who behaves this way, and also probably does historical re-enactments at the weekend / owns a selection of onesies / has weirdly long fingernails filed to points.

ALLLLLLL of this.

Leeds2 · 30/05/2025 20:19

I would've been mortified, and hated every moment of it. But, from what you say he did stop when you asked him to so maybe he just misjudged the situation and was simply trying to impress you? I would probably give him another chance. Just one chance, mind!

thecatneuterer · 30/05/2025 20:19

nomas · 30/05/2025 19:47

Run like the wind. Seriously.

He absolutely knew he embarrassed you and is testing your boundaries. If you still see him, he knows he can escalate it.

I can't work out if this is a joke. I hope it is. Escalate to grime rapping (or whatever it's called) maybe? That would be embarrassing.

Feetinthegrass · 30/05/2025 20:18

I would probably laugh but if you don’t like it, that’s fine, don’t see him again. Simples.

nomas · 30/05/2025 20:18

SeaFloor · 30/05/2025 19:52

This. I mean, there’s no right or wrong here. You’re just incompatible. I’d probably have been amused, if I found him attractive and was liking him. If I didn’t, I would probably have imagined him yodelling in the throes of orgasm, got a giant attack of the ick, feigned sudden illness or climbed out the bathroom window.

They’re not so much incompatible as him just being a loon. OP is fine in this scenario, he is not.

CestLaVieYouSee · 30/05/2025 20:18

You two don’t sound compatible, I certainly wouldn’t find it cool to be in that situation. Just chalk it up to the fun of dating

TheCurious0range · 30/05/2025 20:17

Was the yodelling good?
I think I'd find this really funny albeit I'd be a bit mortified. I quite like the kind of confidence that means dinnertime isn't worried what strangers think of them.

threenaancurrywhore · 30/05/2025 20:17

That would be a nodel from me.

lol, love your v descriptive post

lightslittle · 30/05/2025 20:17

I think it’s an overreaction.

I would flip in round - he didn’t embarrass you, you felt embarrassed by something he did. Might mean you’re not compatible and that’s fine.

I would be irritated he had disturbed other diners, as I think that’s a bit rude but also I like it when someone doesn’t care what people think about them!
