2nd Date, he embarrassed me in a restaurant

Am I over reacting here? I suspect I might be.

1st date went well, 2nd date today. We went for for late/early dinner. nice restaurant. We got talking about Austria, Switzerland etc and he said “I can yodel”. I just laughed so he said “I can show you?” So I laughed again and said “in the middle of a restaurant?”

He then started yodelling loudly. I swear everyone turned around and looked at us. I’m normally pretty passive and would usually just quietly die inside but on this occasion I was beyond embarrassed, absolutely mortified and snapped “Shush!”

He laughed and said “what?” So I said “seriously? We’re in the middle of a restaurant”. He said sorry (whilst still laughing) and tried to change the subject but I couldn’t get past it. Who does that?

I don’t like being centre of attention and yes I embarrass easy. I ended up going home early as I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. He’s messaged me since asking if everything is ok, I don’t think he’s actually associating my change in mood to the yodelling incident!! Making me think maybe I’m over reacting??

That reminds me of the scene in the Santa Clause 2 where the lady Tim Allen is on a date with starts singing a Christmas themed song to the tune of Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain - maybe people thought you were film stars?!

This is a bog standard compatibility issue. I know people who would find this hilarious and would probaly join in. I know people who would die inside. I'm probably somewhere in the middle of those two.

But this is not the man for you if you are someone who gets embarassed easily and likes to conform to all social mores.

Omg! 😄😄 no, youre not at all, he needs to be chucked back! Psychotic behaviour

nomas · 30/05/2025 19:47

Run like the wind. Seriously.

He absolutely knew he embarrassed you and is testing your boundaries. If you still see him, he knows he can escalate it.

wizzywig · 30/05/2025 19:47

Wonder if he yodels when he has sex. Does he work for yodel?

sheknowsitstoolate · 30/05/2025 19:46

I would be embarrassed but couldn’t get in a mood about it

BMW6 · 30/05/2025 19:46

Well I'd give him a second chance as he now knows you were embarrassed, but one more "performance" and I'd be walking away.

wizzywig · 30/05/2025 19:46

On one hand,, if I were another person in the restaurant I'd be dying with laughter. But in your situation, I wouldn't be seeing him again. I'd fear the yodeling would surface again at an inopportune moment. Although I don't know when is a good time for a wee yodel

Also was he good at yodelling because it’s quite difficult to do well

TheSpottedZebra · 30/05/2025 19:45

It doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it's an overreaction. If he's not for you, he's not for you and you can move on without a backwards glance.

BG2015 · 30/05/2025 19:45

I'd be mildly embarrassed but think it was funny and that he was embracing life. It wouldn't bother me really.

Ponoka7 · 30/05/2025 19:45

I don't think that you are compatible and you don't seem to be able to be honest, or communicate what is bothering you, so any relationship isn't going to work.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 30/05/2025 19:45

I try very hard to admire people who don’t give a shit about social convention but yodelling at dinner would definitely cause me significant second hand embarrassment. A lot depends on whether he’s otherwise lovely.

Dramatic · 30/05/2025 19:44

Ha, yes I'd be mortified too. I don't know if it would put me off completely but it might just be the start of him trying to embarrass you all the time.
