I've come to breakfast on my own

Friends wedding. 2 of my friends went to whole day, me just invited to reception. All stayed at same hotel. Planned to have breakfast together or lunch if up late. Loose plan. I woke and got up at 8, got ready and text at 9:20, one said she was stirring and other still asleep. Waited an hour until 10:30 and said I was ready and going as breakfast finishes at 11. Called one of them, no answer. Then they text me saying they were only just having a shower so wouldn't make breakfast. I've come on my own and gunna drive home after, need to get home to feed my pets and don't wanna waste a whole day off. aibu?

Jesus wept- why does life have to be so complex?

you texted at 9:20 - no response... so you shuffle down to breakfast and enjoy it if you're hungry.

then pop back and message "heya snoozy people! Shall we meet at DeliciousLunchPlace at 1:30?"

BambinaCucina · 31/05/2025 23:32

I wouldn't blame the one friend for not replying ASAP. When I'm asleep, you could literally jump on my head and I'd sleep through it 🙈

You're not unreasonable for going to breakfast, but equally if they feel like rubbish, I'd not expect them to roll on down. It was probably a bit ambitious to expect an early start the morning after a big night.

Beautifulweeds · 31/05/2025 21:17

I would have just accepted they weren't coming down and gone on my own much earlier if I was hungry. I guess I'm just older and wiser, I've also been the one to not go down so never expect anyone else to when on holiday/do. I did go away with the girls and we were going to meet at 11am after flight arriving early morning and 3am at hotel. I got up, they all came down 2 hours later, so after that I thought ill just do me. Xxx

GiveDogBone · 31/05/2025 18:55

I can barely be bothered to type this response to such an unimportant question. Does it really matter whether YABU or YANBU?

independentfriend · 31/05/2025 18:36

Hindsight says it would have been better for you to go for breakfast as soon as you were ready. Then you're at least not hungry while waiting for your friends.

You could make the next meal second breakfast/ brunch or just have a drink while they eat if you're not hungry enough for lunch when they're ready for it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/05/2025 18:31

plans weren't clear the night before;
morning messages seem vague as well.
sounds like the friends were just doing their own thing:
Slow morning, lie in, what ever.

If you all are really close friends then there likely would've been firmer meet-up plans.

No. I was extremely hungover the day after my wedding and even thought we planned a family breakfast I was in no fit state to attend 🙈😂

True, most people don't unless parents involved who need help.

I've only ever had one morning after wedding breakfast, with parents.

Maddy70 · 31/05/2025 18:30

Why have they been rude? It was a loose plan, breakfast or lunch. They didn't wake up in time for a plan that didn't exist

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 31/05/2025 18:28

Why do you need indication on how long they'll be when it's not lunchtime yet, and plans were loose (when you posted).

Sorry OP, you come across as either needy or an overthinker.

Are they new friends you're still getting to know?

If you like to have confirmed plans, then you could have said, will be down for 10am if anyone else is up and will be leaving after, done.

MissRaspberryRipples · 31/05/2025 17:41

"Planned to have breakfast together or lunch if up late. Loose plan"

You agreed either or depending on how late you were all up. Why are they suddenly rude because they got up late and missed breakfast?

LIZS · 31/05/2025 09:32

When’s checkout? Might have hung around lounge until then but had breakfast earlier.

Have they been a bit rude or not? The other one hasn't even replied to my message
Maybe they'd rather go just them

Nikki75 · 30/05/2025 22:21

Leave them to do what thete doing... you do you I wouldn't take offence at that they're probably hungover tired ..if you want yo go home you do what you want to do don't stress it x

OCDmama · 30/05/2025 19:28

YABU to be so extra and accusatory about this.

There was a loose plan, they were tired.

You sound like hard work.

They're maybe a teeny bit rude but honestly I don't blame them, they're probably just hungover and tired, the wedding is the big social event, late night... you're just more disciplined than them.

I've been them, it's normally me, I wouldn't even eat breakfast I'd sleep as long as I possibly could and then drag on clothes and drive home ASAP looking like hell. I'd have expected my friend who is more able to be up and at them to go to breakfast and get on with their day - especially if you'd all hung out the day/night before.
I'd not have an issue if I was either side of this situation - totally fair that you've got on with things, but also fair that after a big night they've chosen to sleep in and missed a very casually arranged hotel buffet.

Todayisaday · 30/05/2025 16:59

I don't think I nor my feiends would give this a second thought..you were up and hungry, so you ate. They were still in bed, so will eat later.
No one is rude, everyone is an adult and can eat when they are hungry. I assume it was a late night, so all bets are off in regards to the next day.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 30/05/2025 16:14

Slinkyminky22 · 30/05/2025 10:50

They've not been rude, they were sleeping. I don't think I'd be up and ready for 9am after a full day at a wedding.

I was, after my own wedding and several bottles of prosecco.

Doesn't matter what I did the day before, how much I drank, how I've slept etc. I'm awake by 7am most days and STARVING. Just how my body clock works.

Only exception is if I'm ill. DH worries if I'm still asleep after 7.

Emmz1510 · 30/05/2025 15:43

Yabu. If you had no intention of staying then you shouldn’t have agreed to ‘breakfast or lunch’! I’d be annoyed if I was your friends. Different if you had agreed to definitely meet for breakfast.

You’re overthinking. It could be a little rude but the day after a wedding they’re probably knackered and hungover. I really wouldn’t give it another thought.

2025isavibe · 30/05/2025 10:56

Is it rude if I leave now?
I think like we have woken at different times, have different plans and I'm now sat on my own and want to go home. No indication from them of how long they'll be

Just message to say you've had breakfast and your off now as you need to sort pets and you hope they have a lovely lunch.

Personally I'd have gone down at 8am and not even messaged them.

I hate preplanned group breakfasts and like to eat alone and come round slowly.

When I was younger I'd have faffed about getting annoyed and tying myself in knots over something like this. At 38 I just do what I want to do.

I think having the opinion that over half of the UK (and world) are weird because of one thing they have in common, is the most batshit thing I’ve ever heard.

I’m not sure anyone thinks that you are sensible or reasonable either after such a prejudiced comment.

I tend to judge people as individuals and not group them as ‘fucking weird’ just because they are different to me.

Oh, but don't forget that your perfectly reasonable perspective will be defined as hitting a nerve - and pet owners are apparently not just weird but fucking weird 😁

ilovesooty · 30/05/2025 14:52

Helloworlditsmeagain · 30/05/2025 13:36

I hope I didn't hit a nerve 👹

No. Your concern is appreciated, given your general inability to look outside your own perspective.

1SillySossij · 30/05/2025 14:45

I do not think you are too good at reading between the lines op.

chachahide · 30/05/2025 14:40

They're allowed a lie in after a presumably late night at a wedding, you're allowed to go to breakfast and leave early.

momtoboys · 30/05/2025 14:23

Sometimes things just don't work out the way we had planned.
