Over 50s. Have you outgrown/got bored of anything?

Mine is spas or spa days. I used to love them. Went to one recently and was so bored.

Dh and I camped (tent) recently and the place was so peaceful and beautiful I realised I enjoyed this much more than spa days or stays. The weather was good admittedly. But even so walking in the beautiful dales was so therapeutic. Also the wild swimming under waterfalls was blissful. Dh and I often camp but have found the best site. Cost less than £60 Inc electric hook up. First time we've used electric.

Dh and I walk lots. Loads of long distance walking. I also walk with friends. So it isn't a new realisation that I love the outdoors. Just a sudden realisation that spa days bore me now.

Have you outgrown anything? Or found a new love of something?

Social media, as in posting anything about myself. I am not much interested in other people's lives either.

Middleageddreameresawsss · 27/05/2025 21:01

All of what you all say plus
Not caring that I wear my winter puffa jacket in July if Im cold.
Ive gone right off sandwiches and crisps.
Being lecutured about wellbeing and health. Over it.
Buying stuff
Acknowledging Im not an overall dog lover. I loved my own and thats it. Many dogs dont interest me.
Swimming pools that are freezing cold
Multiple notebooks..

What I do enjoy
Watching scary camping stories on you tube late at night.
Short walks.
Sitting half watching the TV
Looking at trees and birds
Peoples heritage stories

I notice stuff like this often but can't think of many examples right now...

colouring in : I totally dug it when I was about 30 & can remember the satisfaction it gave but now... can't imagine enjoying that for more than a 2 minutes. Or to a lesser extent, I still enjoy reading but not enough to make time for it when there's anything else to do... I read constantly when I was young.

calishire · 27/05/2025 20:59

@JumpingDizzy I’d love to know the great campsite you speak of!

5128gap · 27/05/2025 20:57

Drinking, shopping, getting dressed up to go out, taking pride in material things like a nice house/car, worrying about whether I'm 'getting on' at work, small talk, hosting, sunbathing. I've 'grown into' walking, live music in places I can wear whatever I like to, theatre, beautiful scenery, sight seeing, quiet one on one socialising with good friends.

coxesorangepippin · 27/05/2025 20:57

Oh god how long have you got

Fussing over hair and makeup - why bother, I'm fucking stunning and don't need it 😂

Spending time with people who I don't want to

Unnecessarily long car rides to spend time with flaky people

Sleeping on people's floors, I mean wtf

Overpriced, high calorie food, just why

Arranging shit i.e. Play dates

Namma · 27/05/2025 20:55

Men… don’t have the patience these days.

bou · 27/05/2025 20:53

Sweet things. I don’t eat sweets, chocolate or cakes anymore. I just don’t fancy them. I really enjoy savoury food.

Dunnowotot · 27/05/2025 20:48

Im still in my 40s, but relate 😄
-Alcohol - whats the point?!
-Most tv-shows
-Judging myself for likes, dislikes, traits, habits or my body
-Male validation - rather leave me alone - if i look good, i look good for ME
-Shallow conversations
-Showing off money, status, connections..boring

Crikeyalmighty · 27/05/2025 20:45

@ChewbaccasMrs I’m noticeably quieter than I used to be too -

RedRaspberryPie · 27/05/2025 20:43

Always loved walking in the countryside and plan on doing even more.
I have never liked shopping and have never done a spa day.
I have outgrown having pets, I don't want the responsibility any more.

@VioletandMauve I listen to 80s alternative when doing chores.

Few things can compete with 80s alternative. There's no point trying to find anything else to do. 🤣

Neveranynamesleft · 27/05/2025 20:42

Mastered the art of saying No thanks many years ago. Very liberating..

comoatoupeira · 27/05/2025 20:41

The kind of chick lit or crime novels or similar you buy at the airport ... I've read so many of them I know what's going to happen next! Consequence of age.

Shizzlestix · 27/05/2025 20:39

Food, mostly because I had a bypass and I now can’t understand why I was so obsessed. It’s still a strong pull, isn’t it time for a snack etc, but I’m just so unbothered. Related, I’m still interested in clothes, had to be given the change in size, but if I ever go to town, I’m just desperate to go home again! My bff gave me a voucher for my birthday and I had serious trouble trying to spend it in an actual shop.

Clubbing, the very idea makes me cringe. Any kind of socialising, tbh. My boss made us all go for dinner once (in 5 years) then I just had to tell her I absolutely hate socialising. She really would love us to go out, she’s my age, mid 50s. We’re very different, she’s not a mumsnet user, so many of the pp saying about clubbing.

Soap operas, which I used to love, leave me utterly cold. Maybe it’s watching too many piss take telenovelas, the lack of dramatic scenes/people dying every few scenes?

ChewbaccasMrs · 27/05/2025 20:36

Going out anywhere,I've turned into a real homebird which I know has shocked my friends and extended family,I used to constantly feel the need to be out of the house but not now,now I enjoy being at home surrounded by our family and our Dogs.

Talking,I'm alot quieter than I used to be and that includes talking on the phone,my children,my husband,my BFF I'll chat to on the phone everyone else just message me.

Anjo2011 · 27/05/2025 20:35

Flying. I love going on holiday but airports, busy flights and loud people make it horrible and I don’t enjoy it.
Shopping trips. I used to love a full on day out shopping , but aching joints make it torture! A few hours is more than enough.
Large groups of people whether it’s at a party or a night out, makes me anxious.
I could go on but I won’t. I enjoy peace and quiet and my own home. How things change!

Hotflushesandchilblains · 27/05/2025 20:35

Having my nails done. Make up. Trends in clothing.

Bookridden · 27/05/2025 20:34

@VoltaireMittyDream what you say about music resonates with me. I seem to feel less moved by it. I'm not sure why this is and it saddens me.

Gustavo77 · 27/05/2025 20:33

Honestly? Life.

Schweden · 27/05/2025 20:32

likeafishneedsabike · 27/05/2025 19:37

This really resonates. How old are you? Will you retire once the mortgage is paid?

That's the plan! I am 53.
I will retire by 57 latest, hopefully even a little earlier, with mortgage paid off, kids funded through uni with hefty house deposits. Pension will give me somewhere around £45k, husband's a bit more, so we are close to £100k. It has been in the planning since I started work.
I am going to travel, see the world, read all the books, run, cycle, get more involved in my local community.

I have plenty of energy and life left in me, but not for work!

Mummysgogetter · 27/05/2025 20:31

i can relate to a lot of these replies but things I can’t be doing with any more:

nights out which involve large groups of people, in loud bars/clubs where you can’t hear anyone, copious amounts of alcohol and getting home really late.
junk food/fast food
also, group holidays/weekends away with loads of other women (shudder) or hen dos etc. I like to have the autonomy/freedom to escape home when I want to.

prefer a long hike on a trail I have never been before - not a popular one but one I have mapped myself from my OS maps app utilising footpaths that are hardly used, going through disused quarries and woodlands.
also quiet meal with husband and friends.
my book, sofa and cat.

changedusernameforthis1 · 27/05/2025 20:31

I'm 35...but since reading this thread I've realized my heart is in it's 50's 😂

WeegieW · 27/05/2025 16:10

Alcohol, staying up late, New Atheism, pessimism.

Apatheism has always done the trick for me.

rubicustellitall · 27/05/2025 20:30

Guilt.I am so over feeling it, imagining I should be feeling it or being manipulated by it. Might not be perfect but I am me. I have always done my best ,sorry if it hasnt been enough for you but it is what it is. Going into the Autumn season of my life and the Winter seasons guilt free it is what it is!
