To wonder if there's any actual evidence that's trans women are not safe in male loos?

I feel, as a FWR lurker, that I would have seen linked articles to bank up the fact that trans identifying men aren't safe in men's loos, and therefore that's the rational why women should budge up and accept trans identifying men in their spaces.

I'm pretty sure with a quick Google I could fund evident that trans identity men have made women's spaces unsafe (Kate delowski? The one who worked for a charity and made a masturbation video).

So AIBU to wonder what hard evidence there is?

But in the meantime ?

The 0.55% of the British population 4x at risk of violence than everyone else should have the freedom to mitigate the significant risks they face.

Evidence please?

So, they are not safe in the men's or the women's toilets, by your examples. Third spaces are looking like the best choice all round.

Trans people are far more likely to be victims than perpetrators of violence.

Cobalt was assaulted by a man

Two women assaulted a transgender person in a womens toilet

Trans man attacked by men for using women’s bathroom

As I said, trans people should use whatever they feel comfortable with given the risk / venue / context.

Not a toilet but the same situation…

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52748117

11 transgender prisoners were sexually assaulted by male prisoners in a male prison in 2019. This is compared to 1 case of a transgender prisoner sexually assaulting a female prisoner in a women’s prisons that same year.

https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-news/transgender-teen-hospitalized-alleged-attack-high-school-bathroom-rcna156105

A transgender teen whose jaw was broken by a male student while using the male bathroom.

This discussion has been done to absolute death. I could also post a tonne of articles about men entering women’s bathrooms (as men, not trans women) and attacking women. They don’t and never have had to be trans to do that. For some reason though people go on and on about the Katie Dolatowski case.

Lots of men get assaulted in prison.

Prison is a very dangerous place.

That's one of the reasons why it's a good idea to refrain from committing crimes.

I don't think there is, but it doesn't matter. Male on male violence has nothing to do with women.

Well apparently men are collectively responsible for all violence, even those who have transitioned.

The reality is far messier than simplistic binaries.

Why do you think we have single sex spaces, out of interest?

LucyMonth · 24/05/2025 18:36

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/05/2025 18:02

OK, so Katie Dolatowski is a trans woman who sexually assaulted at least two girls in women's public toilets.

If there is "as much evidence" that trans women are at risk in men's toilets, can you cute an example of at least two trans women being sexually assaulted by a man in men's toilet?

Yep.

Women use the gents at arenas and concerts when the women’s queue is too long. Seen that plenty of times.

There’s the law and then there’s reality.

Women using men's toilets are doing so at their own risk.

Trans identifying males using women's toilets are doing so at women's risk.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/05/2025 18:33

What, all of us, collectively?

You think women in the UK shouldn't have any sex based rights because of the actions of two women in America?

Are you quite alright?

The 2nd of the cases I shared in the post you quoted is clearly women’s fault.

Trans people constitute just 0.55% of the UK population yet are 4 times more likely to experience violence than cisgender people.

They should have the freedom to mitigate that risk which is significant.

Evidence?

I don't see how they would be any less safe than an effeminate gay man and they're not demanding that women should be a human shield for them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There's a transwoman on Twitter who documents his visits to the male toilets. I think he's now at over a 1000 visits with no incidents.

This.

I think it’s up to the trans person to decide which option is safer for them, depending on the situation, venue, context and risk.

Probably as much evidence as there is to say women are unsafe when trans-women use female toilets. I feel sorry for everyone who has got themselves hyped up about this, I really do.

This!

It's not about the toilets themselves at all; it's about the people who are (legitimately) using them and/or wanting what somebody else possesses, regardless of how the rightful owners feel about that.

Exactly. That’s something for men to sort out among themselves. I’m busy dealing with actual women’s issues, like women’s single-sex spaces and ensuring that ‘women’ continue to exist as a legal category.

ElidaGibbs · 24/05/2025 18:18

If trans women feel unsafe in male toilets then it is perfectly reasonable for them to campaign for third spaces and I'm sure no one would have a problem with that. The answer is not for them to be in women's toilets.

This.

I do actually have a lot of sympathy for trans women not wanting to use the men's toilets. However, I don't think they belong in the women's loos either. The obvious answer is for them to use a third, gender-neutral space. Unfortunately, my understanding is that most trans women don't want to use a gender-neutral toilet. They want the validation of using the ladies' facilities!

AnSolas · 24/05/2025 18:18

Tekknonan · 24/05/2025 18:04

Of course, now we are getting women - women born women - being challenged in women's loos if someone thinks they look 'masculine'.

A lot of trans women, especially those who got puberty blockers, look no different from women born women. I have no issues with the trans women I know in female loos, whether it's me or my granddaughters. The problem is the rare predaotr taking advantage of the laws as they stood. But short of having the genital inspectors out, I'm not sure how these laws can be enforced, especially as many trans women have had surgery. I certainly don't want to have to show my id every time I go into the loo.

Imagine a world where men, all men respected the right of women to have single sex spaces.

Where the policy was good men stay out so bad men stand out.

Imagine if the nice men that you know decided that you and your granddaughter has a right to a toilet space with no men. Not even them.

Just imagine.

No need for a minimum standard of "passing.

No need to have any type of genital inspectors.

You would not need to worry about ID ( which means nothing when the State and other bodies issue ID with false data ) because your nice men friends just respected the rules.
