Why are so many men perverts?

I just got sexually harassed by a tarot card reader. The most bizarre place to be sexually harassed! It was at one of those walk in places near a beach

He was looking at the cards, talking about my relationships and he said "it looks like you are single ". I said ""yeah i am i want to be single i don't want a relationship reallly'
He said "oh yeah you can just go out for a few shags that's just as good".
I was taken aback. He said again "you can go out and have a good shag'
I said "no i dont do that".

He then said "did someone just die. " i said "yes my dad'
He said 'i bet you were a naughty girl for your dad. You naughty naughty girl'.

I said "im leaving". What the fuck!

Last week i was at a poetry group. We all wrote and read out a poem. The women all wrote about families , love , beach walks etc.
The man wrote "a funny poem (his words)" about his testicles and sex. No one found it funny.

In my last workplace two of my male colleagues were "joking" about masturbating. I felt a bit sick

I know. I was being mischievous. Heartened by the sane response. I feel better.

Thank god you were joking!

No, I think just randomly talking about it to somebody who you aren't certain will appreciate it is highly inappropriate, though.

I'm not saying that she was anything like as bad as tarot guy - he sounds utterly dreadful and should be reported; but she could have done with a filter too.

'Somebody who you aren't certain will appreciate it'...'Highly inappropriate'...You're making it sound like workplace harassment or something when she was having a private joke with her boyfriend. None of these examples are the same.

That’s taken massively out of context. The women said it to a man she was dating and having a sexual relationship with! It’s hardly being creepy to have a laugh about having a sneaky wank during the day with someone you’re sleeping with. She thought he’d laugh and they’d move on.

It’s not the same thing at all as some random man in a work / hobby / leisure environment suddenly turning the conversation into sex. Just vile.

I honestly think you should report that tarot reader to the police. Both things he said to you were disgusting and must have made you feel vulnerable and uncomfortable. He shouldn’t be allowed to practice and sounds like a threat to young women who will often be alone with. Totally gross.

All women, not just young.

Oxpeckercarnival · 23/05/2025 20:37

Tarot guy is weird and creepy. Poetry guy and the bawdy jokes at work need to know their audience- personally I find adult humour funny but I understand some don't and I'm sensitive to that.

I think a lot of them don't see us as human, just things for their sexual pleasure.

They certainly dont care hoe we feel or if they make us umcomfortable

So true. It’s like when they’re on their own or in laddy groups they go feral and animalistic, predator hunting prey. Like they lose their humanity and intelligence
which is then a huge contrast to when we speak to our male family members, friends, colleagues, professionals etc and they behave normally.
It makes me wonder if they all do it when on their own, and they hide it the rest of the time. Because all these sleazy men I encounter are someones loving husband, brother, son etc

Yep. Just today:
I’ve has a colleague tell me he has cancer, I was sympathising with him, he asked for a hug which I felt I should do after what he told me and he whispered to me “I dream about you all the time and I shouldn’t as I’m married” wtf
The bus driver complimented me on my band tee, I said thankyou, then he stroked my hand as I gave him the money
Men shouting things out of cars

It’s constant, and just kind of accepted even nowadays. And it’s getting more as I get older

Poem could be funny depending on situation, but tarot card reader is pervy and the comment about naughty girl/dad is weird horrible and completely out of order.

Primary school playground
Male teacher
Mums comments about his body, and specifically his butt and things that he could be good at.

I am sure I can remember a lot of other examples!

But does she say it in his presence, where he can hear it?

Yeah, that's not how it went, the OP made a joke that WFH meant wanking from home...and it was her partner she was talking to. Not even comparable

I can't remember how long she'd been with him - I recalled it wasn't long, but I may have that wrong.

Nevertheless, it still sounded like they weren't at a stage/on the same page in their relationship where they would laugh about that kind of thing together.

Poetry man would probably have insisted that he was 'just joking' too, though - especially if it didn't go down well.

Male or female, you really do need to be sure of your audience before launching into 'intimate' topics of conversation, and know that it will be appreciated and not make the other person/people uncomfortable.

There was a woman on here the other day who started a thread in surprise about the fact that her new boyfriend was a bit uneasy when she just came straight out randomly telling him about how much she masturbated whilst she was supposed to be working from home.

She's probably an anomaly, though!

Poetry group bloke writing 'hilarious' doggerel about his goolies sounds desperately grim.

I'm sorry that horrible tarot card reader sexually harassed you, how awful!

I think most men are more sexually driven because of testosterone, but whether they behave and speak disrespectfully or crassly depends on their personalities and backgrounds.

I avoid men like this and seek out men who are respectful towards women and who have enough self-respect not to behave in these ways. Like all human beings they have sexual drives, but they have the manners and intelligence to keep things civilised.

Mymanyellow · 23/05/2025 19:42

Is there anyone you can report him to? Not sure who tbh. Perhaps he has to have some sort of permit from the council to set up and talk shite.

Don't be so fucking ridiculous. Yes, very very few women can be as bad as the many, many, many men. Can you see how this doesn't make the OP sexist?
