Leftover takeaway wars

This really is lighthearted! And I'm going to use the annoying Person A/Person B despite it be absolutely clear which one I am (and that I'm obviously in the right).

Happily married couple get an Indian Takeaway for a rare treat.

Person A orders Chicken Bhuna*
Person B orders Lamb Dhansak*
Then they order a rice, a naan and a side to share.

Person A eats all the Chicken Bhuna, half the rice, half a naan and half the side.
Person B eats half the Lamb Dhansak, skips rice, half of the naan and spoonful of side dish.

Remaining is half the Lamb Dhansak, half the rice and nearly half of a side dish.

Who gets the leftovers?

Person A thinks they should be split and shared (perhaps with the addition of a bhaji or a samosa from the freezer). "All that I have, I share with you" etc

Person B thinks they are their leftovers, and they make a perfect size meal for one and Person A should keep their mitts off as they ate all their own yesterday.

Who is in the right?

YABU - Person A is right - split the leftovers. Caring is sharing.
YANBU - Person B is right and they are entitled to all of their leftovers.

(* I have changed the names of the dishes so as not to out myself 😂)

Just LOL at changing the names of the dishes so you don't out yourselves.

Proper giggling at that! Its giving "DH has a hobby thst ai won't share cos its outing" and it nearly always is cycling 🤣

What is this 'leftovers' of which you speak?

Last time we ordered Thai food from a food truck DS suggested we order him 2 main dishes next time as one was insufficient. He is 16 years old. Enough said!

However, if I ordered something and didn't finish it but wanted to save it for later or the next day then I would make it clear this is what I wanted. A label on the container e.g. If you eat this I will kill you, works.

BarnacleBeasley · 22/05/2025 15:54

I think person A was quite restrained, as they clearly would have been able to eat more than half of the rice, naan and sides, but they restricted themselves to only their own share at the actual mealtime. So I don't think they're trying it on - and they didn't try to get B's food at the time.

In my house I'd be person A, and we'd either pad out and share the leftovers for dinner another day, or person B would offer the leftovers to me to take for lunch, as she doesn't like having curry for lunch in the middle of a work day.

LittleBitofBread · 22/05/2025 15:51

In our house, DP likes to take leftovers to work for lunch, whereas I prefer to buy lunch fresh every day. So I'd happily give him first refusal on these.
But if it was a weekend or there wasn't much else to have for dinner, they'd be split and shared for then, with added new bread/sides etc.

FuckityFux · 22/05/2025 15:26

I’d share because I do all the cooking and it saves me the hassle for one meal. 🤷🏻‍♀️

WordsFailMeYetAgain · 22/05/2025 15:23

We would freeze the leftovers in an unmarked container. At a later date we would have "curry surprise" dinner. Neither would claim the food as theirs!

FrenchandSaunders · 22/05/2025 15:23

JDM625 · 22/05/2025 15:17

You are both wrong!
Its just DH and I, but we order enough so we BOTH have leftovers the next day. We also share each dish- not this is mine, that is yours etc.
IF there was only enough leftovers for 1 serving, DH would always ask if he can have it, or did I want some.

Just order more in future 😉

I'm not ordering a lovely spicy garlic chilli chicken and sharing DH's korma ....just no. Order what you like and that's yours to eat ...share the sides.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 22/05/2025 15:23

B is right.
Though in my house there are no leftovers 😁probably helped due to the fact we have to split the 2 curries etc with our 8 year old

CowTown · 22/05/2025 15:22

Person A:

You’re being piggy. Wind your neck in. Obviously half of B’s meal isn’t enough to split as a proper meal between two. You think 1/4 of a meal is a proper meal? You disgust me.

RNApolymerase · 22/05/2025 15:21

B is right. But order more next time.

PsychoHotSauce · 22/05/2025 15:19

RelaxedOddish · 22/05/2025 15:05

Person B is right.

It's funny how person A thinks B's left overs is enough to share but scoffed double the amount the previous day! If they had eaten half their meal they would have also had some leftovers to enjoy.

I actually like sharing leftovers as long as the other person doesn't assume they're entitled to them, then I get territorial Grin I'd happily share with my best friend, but I've also had some really greedy thoughtless boyfriends so I've had to stake my claim.

The ones that annoyed me the most would say, 'fancy going halves on a takeaway?' but only going halves on the money, not the food Hmm

Edit: I think I quoted the wrong post but I cannot remember which one I meant to quote Confused

RareGoalsVerge · 22/05/2025 15:19

When this happens in our house, person B (me) has the leftovers for brunch with a poached egg on top before person A has had enough coffee to cope with the concept of food.

JSMill · 22/05/2025 15:18

Person B.

IKnowAristotle · 22/05/2025 15:18

Broadly team B and I think you have to loudly declare "I'm going to eat the rest tomorrow" to avoid any confusion.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 22/05/2025 15:17

BirdyBedtime · 22/05/2025 14:59

I can't understand the concept as leftover takeaway is an unthinkable thing in our house (as we have a teen DS), although if they did then I would absolutely be person B

See, I'm with you with a Chinese, we just order a few bits and all share.

But if someone suggests the same with a curry and I will never look at them the same way again

Hankunamatata · 22/05/2025 15:17

Person A needs to order more food if they want left overs. They can't eat all their portion then expect more

JDM625 · 22/05/2025 15:17

FrenchandSaunders · 22/05/2025 15:16

It's person B's food .... I'd freak at DH if he tried to pull this trick. Thankfully he's terrified of leftovers and food poisoning so I don't have to worry about that.

GloriousGoosebumps · 22/05/2025 15:16

I've got to side with person B. Person A is greedy! Attempting to steal (my) leftovers is a serious character flaw!

nomas · 22/05/2025 15:13

PullTheBricksDown · 22/05/2025 15:09

This! Stop snaffling B's food, A

Just reading through all the zen replies about how it's happier and more peaceful if you share and aren't possessive about leftovers and thought 'yep, women's answers'

Thing is, most men are able to eat more so if leftovers are shared they will usually get to them before the woman.

nomas · 22/05/2025 15:12

Your partner is greedy! They are your leftovers.

PullTheBricksDown · 22/05/2025 15:09

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 22/05/2025 14:41

Person B 100% right to their own curry.
person A enjoyed ALL of their curry last night!

Growlybear83 · 22/05/2025 15:07

We’ve always done this on the basis that whoever paid for the takeaway gets any leftovers.

RelaxedOddish · 22/05/2025 15:05

Person B is right.

Onedayiwillsomething · 22/05/2025 14:52

I can’t imagine having a curry and not sharing all the dishes. The idea you each have “your own” mains is baffling to me.

I love spicy food and DH eats korma so we absolutely do not share!

Re leftovers, I see both sides. I think person B has more right to them but should probably offer to share.
