Leftover takeaway wars

This really is lighthearted! And I'm going to use the annoying Person A/Person B despite it be absolutely clear which one I am (and that I'm obviously in the right).

Happily married couple get an Indian Takeaway for a rare treat.

Person A orders Chicken Bhuna*
Person B orders Lamb Dhansak*
Then they order a rice, a naan and a side to share.

Person A eats all the Chicken Bhuna, half the rice, half a naan and half the side.
Person B eats half the Lamb Dhansak, skips rice, half of the naan and spoonful of side dish.

Remaining is half the Lamb Dhansak, half the rice and nearly half of a side dish.

Who gets the leftovers?

Person A thinks they should be split and shared (perhaps with the addition of a bhaji or a samosa from the freezer). "All that I have, I share with you" etc

Person B thinks they are their leftovers, and they make a perfect size meal for one and Person A should keep their mitts off as they ate all their own yesterday.

Who is in the right?

YABU - Person A is right - split the leftovers. Caring is sharing.
YANBU - Person B is right and they are entitled to all of their leftovers.

(* I have changed the names of the dishes so as not to out myself 😂)

I can’t imagine having a curry and not sharing all the dishes. The idea you each have “your own” mains is baffling to me.

Why? If we get meals to share then no one gets what they actually want b3cause we have to compromise!

You literally cannot imagine the concept of some people in a group (or even just a couple) being vegetarian or vegan or having allegies or various dietary requirements? Particularly with a curry where different people like different levels of spice?

You need to widen your horizons if the idea of ordering two dishes baffles you. You must be in a state of constant amazement every time you leave the house.

Say your partner was a vegan who couldn't handle spice, you'd doom yourself to a lifetime of bland veggie kormas rather than just order your own dish?

You'd order your own meals in a restaurant so why would it be weird to do so at home?

Exactly. I like fish, DP hates it, and likes spicier things than I would order. So our leftovers tend to be separated anyway. Shock horror, we even prefer different flavoured naans.

Person B is entitled to it all if they want.

BebbanburgIsMine · 22/05/2025 18:00

Person B is right, the leftovers are theirs.

Not a problem in my house, I don’t like curry and I can’t stand leftovers of any kind, just turns my stomach.

CinnamonBuns67 · 22/05/2025 17:45

I'm with Person B on this

Leftover curry for breakfast the next day is divine 😋😋

Especially if B has it for breakfast when A is still asleep.

Indeed it is - but it must be cold.

RoofTopSingers · 22/05/2025 17:34

Person A who eats it all should order 2 mains, one for that evening and one for leftovers.

That way you both get a left over amount you can both manage to eat the next day, win, win. My adult sons will over order to have leftovers the next day.

GasPanic · 22/05/2025 17:32

It really isn't that complex.

Fight it out in the car park. The leftovers will probably end up on the floor and no one wins.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 22/05/2025 17:26

Whoever gets to the fridge first...

nobodywantsit · 22/05/2025 17:26

If person A wants more curry they either need to save some or order an extra dish. I sometimes order a dal and a nan for leftovers.

I would be well salty if they tried to claim mine.

And now I want a curry so thanks for that. 😄

BumpyWinds · 22/05/2025 17:22

Let's look it like a maths formula!

C=curry (of either variety), R= Rice, N=naan, S=Side

Ordered = 2C + 1R + 1N + 1S

A eats 1C + 0.5R + 0.5N + 0.5S
B eats 0.5C + 0.5N + 0.25S (I realise it's probably less than a quarter of the side dish, but you get the drift)

Left = 0.5C + 0.5R + 0.25S (zero naan!)

If that is split between you then it ends up:

A has eaten 1.25C + 0.75R + 0.5N + 0.625S
B has eaten 0.75C + 0.25R + 0.5N + 0.375S

Clearly this is an unfair distribution and A is being entirely unreasonable to expect leftovers to be shared!

Frequency · 22/05/2025 17:15

The outing hobby is cycling?

I'm disappointed. I always assumed it was something truly random, like duck herding or extreme ironing.

OP, person A is being very, very unreasonable. If they want another curry they should buy/make their own.

Isometimeswonder · 22/05/2025 17:11

My husband eats more than me. We pay equal amounts into the bills account.
When we get a takeaway we split it in half immediately... he eats all his, I save some of mine for another time. I think it's fair!

Outrageistheopiateofthemasses · 22/05/2025 17:06

Tell him to keep his greedy paws off your food

SouthLondonMum22 · 22/05/2025 17:03

Person B is right.

Person A is greedy, eating ALL of theirs and then demanding a share of Person B’s.

SpacedOutOut · 22/05/2025 17:03

You eat your own leftovers.

Flicitytricity · 22/05/2025 17:03

Icecreamstick · 22/05/2025 16:57

If I could make a meal for two and thereby a avoid anyone cooking for two days, I'd do that, regardless of whose food it was.

Agree😁

Also gives the possibility of adding side dishes to pad it out, which is the very best part of curry night.

I have also been guilty of mixing leftover curries together and calling it a made up name - it's usually quite delicious 😁

SmallBirdie · 22/05/2025 17:02

B gets the leftovers. Greedy wanker men get a smack in the balls.

HeadNorth · 22/05/2025 17:02

I would be person A, I'd happily pad out and share my leftover takeaway with my DH. In fact, this would be so normal to me as to be unremarkable. He eats more than me, so it just makes sense.

MinnieMountain · 22/05/2025 17:01

I’m so glad DH and I had already planned to go out for curry tonight.

DappledThings · 22/05/2025 17:00

In our house there is no person A's or person B's food. Just food. So whatever is leftover is still for whoever wants to finish it. Or even person C, D, E or F if there have been guests over.

YABU.
