To ask what you'd think of a 20+ stone woman lying on beach?

I'm alone on a uk beach, taking in the sun.

Will people likely be thinking the old beached whale thing?

My mum was 20 plus stones, she would have loved to lie on the beach

Aw thank you. I'm so relaxed but also a bit on edge knowing people can be judgemental.

Fuck them if they are. Enjoy the beach!

Financialthymes · 20/05/2025 12:51

Who cares what other people think?

TaliaTalia · 20/05/2025 12:51

Having been a similar weight a couple of years ago I would be lying if I said I didn’t notice ‘bigger’ women doing things like that (stuff like lying on a beach, running, at the gym - anything like that). But it’s not in a judgmental ‘don’t want to see that’ kind of way. It’s more an appreciative ‘I’m glad there are people with all sorts of different body shapes who have the confidence to do this’ way and I feel a little bit sad for my old self who would have LOVED laying on the beach in nice weather but was worried about what people would think (not that losing weight has changed that, if anything the loose skin has actually made it worse not better 😂)

If she had big boobs, I might covertly check out how supportive her swimsuit is. Having tits like army missiles myself, this is something I can't help but notice.

elomi! I love their bikinis

Weepixie · 20/05/2025 12:50

My only concern would be that if your not on a chair or a sun lounger you may find getting up of the sand unaided quite difficult.

But that’s coming from someone on Mounjaro who has struggled to get back up at the beach gracefully.

Everley · 20/05/2025 12:50

I’d hope you were having a lovely day and enjoying yourself.

I think people are too preoccupied with themselves to think negatively about strangers. And the people that do think negatively are not worth your time.

Have a lovely day OP and get some sun for me.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/05/2025 12:49

On an empty beach it's unlikely anyone will get close enough to be able to work out what size you are. They'll see a person in the distance and think nothing of it.

So I always used to worry about shit like this but then my friend said to me

"It's none of your business what other people think of you"

So what if some stranger thought something unpleasant about you for a second? Their thoughts aren't gonna hurt you. Your thoughts are gonna hurt you if you worry and ruin your own day thinking about what strangers think of you. Projecting your own insecurities and worries on to a stranger who probably didn't even notice you in the first place. Don't do it.

Just enjoy your day!

RobertaBeckett · 20/05/2025 12:48

I wouldnt think anything,a nd If I was forced too id think good for you

Tbh most people are lost in their own worlds 99.9percent of the time

lifeonmars100 · 20/05/2025 12:47

If I saw you I would briefly think " hope she is enjoying herself" and then start looking for my spot to sunbathe in

People are judgemental, all of us! There is no getting away from that. We cannot read each other's thoughts though, so no point giving it any head space. The Sun is out, enjoy it.

WildflowerConstellations · 20/05/2025 12:46

I don't think I'd really notice but if I did I would probably feel encouraged by seeing someone else of a similar size to me enjoying themselves on the beach.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 20/05/2025 12:42

You said you're alone, so there's no-one to do any thinking anyway.

Dreichweather · 20/05/2025 12:42

Are you by yourself? I would be jealous.

Meadowfinch · 20/05/2025 12:41

It wouldn't bother me at all.

The only time I've ever been a bit 😳 was in Croatia where there were huge naked middle aged men basking like big pink walruses on the rocks.

I learned to half close my eyes and blur my focus.

elusiveemz · 20/05/2025 12:41

I'm 20st.

I regularly lie on the beach in a bikini.

No one has keeled over in obvious disgust or wet themselves laughing at me, and if they did, that's a them problem. I'm just me, enjoying the sun as anyone of any size should be able to.

Judiezones · 20/05/2025 12:41

I wouldn't think anything except She's having a lovely time sunbathing

LeaderBee · 20/05/2025 12:39

At least you're out and about instead of eating pizza on the couch.

Ketzele · 20/05/2025 12:38

I'd think, thank god I'm not the only one!

MoistVonL · 20/05/2025 12:37

I’ve been a 22 stone woman on a beach and neither I nor anyone else gave a shit.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 20/05/2025 12:34

I think people spend a lot less time thinking about strangers than you’d imagine. Most of the time they are immersed in their own little world/ phone. Even if they do notice you it’d be fleeting at best. Can you tell me about any strangers you happened to notice yesterday?

Redflagsabounded · 20/05/2025 12:34

Fuck'em if they do..

I think most of us feel insecure about something or other. I used to be super skinny with knobbley knees and felt too embarrassed to lie on a beach. Now I'm size 22, older and wiser, don't worry about anything now. I met a woman on holiday a few years ago who was frankly gorgeous but ashamed of her less-shapely ankles. Everyone's more worried about what they see as their own flaws.

If I saw you I'd think how lovely to relax and enjoy the Spring weather, good on her.

TheAutumnCrow · 20/05/2025 12:31

I’d think the sunscreen thing too, like some pp! ^^
