Is is right that an unpopular govt can reverse the democratic wishes of the UK to have nothing to do with Europe?

None of it affects you

How do you mean, because I am not a farmer? I buy meat and try to buy British where I can.

Brexit affects me and my family

DuncinToffee · 27/05/2025 21:27

What have I said to you that is horrible?

Brexit has been bad for farmers, the Aus and NZ deals are bad for farmers, I don't know if livestock import is bad for farmers, I just said it is still happening.

None of it affects you

I intended to vote Remain, but now I know more about democracy, EU protectionism, and Reform's plans to take advantage of the Brexit liberties, I am glad Leave won! When Reform get in, the UK will start trading all around the world- which is what we used to do before we joined the Common Market 50 years ago!

What a good thing you forgot to vote then eh.

Ah so you’re a reform plant. Now it makes sense. You clearly have not learnt more, you’ve just swallowed Farage’s half arsed rhetoric.

And, as others have said, don’t vote, don’t comment.

I’m not an expert on climate change so have no informed opinions.

You don't need to be an expert. You just need to do a little reading. The consensus is broad - it's just distorted because broadcasters have a regrettable tendency to always put someone from the climate denial side on show in the interest of 'balance' - which makes viewers think the scientific community is split 50/50 on the issue. It is not.

derxa · 27/05/2025 21:22

Disagreement =|= an attack.

Honestly...

Do you not think climate change is real?

It’s quite odd that the people attacking me are both non British. Why?

What are Reform's plans regarding trading?

We won, yay!

You didn't win, you wanted to Remain, but didn't vote, remember? You didn't even know what the question was. You thought it was a vote for the UK to have nothing to do with the EU.🤦‍♀️

I am not dissing your life, I am pointing out the inevitable consequences of climate change. Honestly, I get so tired of people who love to play the victim. I didn't say farmers and scientists should shrug and give up - but perhaps, instead of finding reasons to perpetuate Brexit they should be looking at developing more effective vaccines and treatments for affected animals? Nobody wants to see sheep farmers go under, but it isn't as simple as 'yay, we left the EU, now keep those walls high'.

Climate change? All I know is that vaccine shots for blue tongue are £3 a go

DuncinToffee · 27/05/2025 21:00

Rejoining Horizon is a step in the right direction

Aren’t you the ray of sunshine. That’s my life you’re dissing. I voted Remain but the diehard remainers on here cause pain and distress. Please think before you post.

Nothing, that why I said 'hope'

That Brexit caused a vet shortage is a fact and widely reported.

Just to make clear, I would be happy with a livestock import ban, I was not arguing against an export ban either. Just pointing out that the UK still imports livestock

It’s a shortage of vets in abattoirs mainly.

derxa · 27/05/2025 20:52

pointythings · 27/05/2025 20:42

Blue Tongue is carried by midges. It's going to be impossible to keep it out of the UK as the climate gets warmer.

Imported animals have to be vaccinated. They can’t come in here willy nilly. What do you know about vets? Honestly?

Wirh a huge market on the doorstep, I didn't mean livestock only but trading in general.

I am just saying the UK hasn't banned importing livestock.

I would hope strict regulation stops diseases being imported, Brexit has caused a shortage of vets.

We also don’t want a disease called blue tongue. It’s rife in Europe. There are already restrictions in some English counties. Its quite worrying.

I'm not arguing with you.

Irish beef comes "on the hook", not "on the hoof."

Edited

Not all, they also export livestock to the UK.

pointythings · 27/05/2025 20:37

brexitbarbie · 27/05/2025 19:46

I haven't missed any point.

Where do you think the meat in restaurants comes from? None of them will buy a side of beef and carve it. They buy the most popular cuts.

US beef is crap. (This is what my meat-eating friends who visit USA tell me)
It tastes different to UK or Irish beef. It's from corn-fed animals so more "marbling" - ie intramuscular fat, which is obvious to anyone. (This is one reason why USA has such a high rate of heart disease)
Grass-fed beef, (UK) is leaner overall, and may have a higher concentration of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. So more healthy,

Customers are only going to eat US beef once, unless they want to be a candidate for this month's lucky heart attack.

This isn't about sides of beef. It's about mince. It's about meatballs. It's about burgers. It's about chicken nuggets. It's about all the stuff where you can't tell what it is and where it's from, so restaurants will simply buy what's cheapest.

Eire is in the EU, so they are working to EU rules.

I can't see that they would want to import beef, as they produce so much.

"Coals to Newcastle" methinks 🤔
