Inspired by DS obsession with Steve Backshall.

He would be off round the world "too busy to do childcare darling", would come home reeking of bar poo, and would insist on taking the children to play with venomous snakes "it won't hurt them if they don't bother it".

Tom cruise ..very creepy and not a good father.

Tigergirl80 · 20/05/2025 00:02

Jimmy Carr with that annoying laugh laughing at own jokes that aren’t even funny.

Tom Cruise. I actually enjoy him on screen but suspect he’s got no off button in real life.

He’s very deep into Scientology. He’d demand that any wife be very into Scientology too.

Besides that, I’ve heard that he’s incredibly nice and very generous with his friends and the people he works with.
He has a long list of people he sends s a delicious bakery coconut cake to every Christmas - they rave about it.

I always get the impression that Steve Backshall is actually a really supportive partner and happy to be in the background while his wife shines. He's always at her events looking after the kids and cheering her on.

I absolutely love Michael Ball but think he'd been far too cheery and enthusiastic for me irl. Always telling stories and breaking into song!

Steve Backshall is an absolutely lovely man.

IchBinPapst · 19/05/2025 23:48

Christopher Dean. Weirdly scary. Great choreographer though.

There’s a good reason Jayne didn’t marry him imo.

Jim Carey. Seems like he can’t sit still.

This is the only one I disagree with. He comes over as lovely - hugely talented and intelligent and an all round nice bloke.

Interesting!

My sisters kids are in the same school as his and he’s always super present and gets involved at the fete

David Tennant

I'm torn on Rob Bryden and David Mitchell (just saw them both on the news).
Rob actually does funny impersonations but he'd randomly burst into song when you were trying to tell him the cat was really ill.
David would always get the crossword clues faster than you and would wear socks with sandals and refuse to go to the beach because it's too sandy.

I think I would absolutely love David Mitchell. I could not deal with Rob's attention seeking, signing and impressions though...

ohyesido · 19/05/2025 23:29

I would have said Joe Swash but I now think differently after watching his meal deal show

savethatkitty · 19/05/2025 23:10

Maybe someone like Sacha Baron Cohen - he could never really be "himself", he'd always need to "on" in character I reckon. That would be super annoying.

Huw Edwards (way before the sexual predator stuff)

Just so morose - imagine living with that black cloud and fun sponge.

Draining.

Idina Menzel???

Gods, I’d love to hear her singing in the shower. The original Elpheba and a legend in musical theatre. I could listen to her sing her ABCs and swoon.

She’s my husbands celebrity crush! 😆😆

JIMER202 · 19/05/2025 22:55

It’s easier to say who you’d like. Chris Hemsworth seems like a fun husband and Dad. Hugh Jackman affair make him now on the ew run away list.

That bloody woman that sang the song from Frozen. Imagine her singing in the shower everyday. You’d end up jumping out of the window

@drspouseSteve Backshall is married to Olympian Helen Glover. I heard a radio interview with her before the last Olympics about motherhood and training and she explained how they combine timetables to make sure one of them is always around for the children. I the lifestyle wouldn’t suit me and you obviously can never tell what happens behind closed doors, but it did sound like a very balanced relationship that worked for their family

So let’s give him credit for that as many men won’t give in their own careers or step up to childcare at all. Any interviews I have read he seems to genuinely respect his wife and her achievements/ goals. For that reason alone he has a pass to take the kids to cuddle some snakes😄

JD Vance - he just seems a nasty behind that smirk.

Eeeuuuurrrrgggggghhhhh, yes!

Serrina · 19/05/2025 22:31

Kyle, Vine, Clarkson and Corbyn... I'm guessing the Jeremy's aren't too popular on Mumsnet? 🤣

Serrina · 19/05/2025 22:29

Alison Hammond strikes me as someone who is always "on".

Absolutely bloody all of them apart from Monty Don because he loves gardens and so do I that’s it really

...and he loves dogs, which is another big plus in my book!

abracadabra1980 · 19/05/2025 22:18

Joe Swash - unbearable and that voice...

I used to really fancy Keir Starmer, because of the donkeys. Not anymore though. I have also been known to fancy Boris, Johnson not Yeltsin.

Peter Andre, weird, thick, loves himself and only songs one song.

Donkeys?

Any celebrity would make a poor spouse. It’s only really workable if you’re also a celebrity or if you’re prepared to be a complete trad wife and blend into the background.

Famous people are incredibly busy and have frantic work and travel schedules. They are almost always vain, image obsessed and thin-skinned people who surround themselves with hangers-on and bag carriers. Family and close family relationships are always going to be some way down the list of priorities.

My dad was a minor celebrity in the late 70s/early 80s and my mum’s entire life got swept into being his admin assistant and support animal. He wasn’t even that well known.

I wouldnt do it for any money.

Couldn’t agree more. Any celebrity would be the pits as a partner. Plus you and the DC would be at risk of stalkers, kidnappers and paps. Even making friends - you’d never know if it’s genuine or the lure of knowing someone famous.

Wouldn’t swap anonymity for all the money in the world. Can never understand why people want to be famous. Gilded cage.
