Parents hate the Childfree

Youstolemygoddamnhouse · 18/05/2025 08:18

Over the past few days there have been several post regarding children for example Our new Neighbours and my loud children and To think it's unacceptable to say you don't like children. in both posts there are hateful comments about Childfree people. The second post in particular never mentioned anything about childfree people but then people started making comments about them. Plenty of parents hate other children despite having them. Why do parents care so much about Childfree people and their choices? Are you jealous? Need validation? Why all the hate? Most importantly will you own up to it?

YABU - I don’t hate the childfree
YANBU - yes I hate the childfree

This is a little bit back-tracky isn't it.

"Many" and "quite a few", are not the same inference as "not often".

It will never be as contentious as jam or cream first. Never. We Devonians will fight for the right to be right and put our jam on first.

And you Devonians would be wrong 😂

Many and unite a few don’t mean a majority.

I could say that for what the poster I responded to said. I never mentioned my lifestyle or life choices.

KimberleyClark · 18/05/2025 14:11

Many and unite a few don’t mean a majority.

So presumably you could point us in to the direction of where these “many parents” opposed the childfree board?

or maybe a quote or two where a parent has criticised you for not enjoying being a parent?

ScrambledSmegs · 18/05/2025 12:45

Why the hell is this such a contentious topic?

Is it the new jam or cream first?

Personally, I think it comes from a place of older women pretending they never wanted children but deep down they would have liked it, it just never happened for them for one reason or another and they become inbittered.

comment made on the second post. So yes the hate is real 😆

I think you're wrong but it's tiresome reading posts from parents just wondering what the childfree are doing here and arrogantly assuming they're qualified to know their motivations and feelings.

DemBonesDemBones · 18/05/2025 14:12

No option for ‘I literally never think about nor have an opinion on the child free.’ You don’t occupy anyone’s thoughts as much as you think you do, I PROMISE.

KimberleyClark · 18/05/2025 14:11

Rumbley · 18/05/2025 14:09

@KimberleyClark you said “many” parents opposed the childfree board

and Quite a few parents apparently come on that board and demean and scorn you for not being parent

Many and unite a few don’t mean a majority.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 18/05/2025 14:10

I couldn't have our children, medical issue, so we have no children, but our lives are not child free! Friend's children love to visit and we love to host them and it is often commented on how I am good with them ( worked in education for decades and I enjoy their company). Something that hurt me was us being excluded, by some friends, because we didn't have children and the assumption we don't like being anywhere that children are!

I don’t hate the child free but i absolutely think they are oblivious to the challenges of parenthood. Everyone’s the perfect parent until they have a child. As was I !

And parents can be oblivious to the challenges of childless/child free lives too. Many just think it's oodles of free time, tons of holidays and tons of money. Sadly not the case for any of the people I know without children including myself. There needs to be more understanding on both 'sides'

But you're doing the same thing. Looking for the minority voice and turning the proverbial molehill into a mountain?...

I've just had a quick look and it's virtually identical to this. 200 posts saying "don't care really" but a small group determined to highlight the odd post that doesn't. Then, identical to this thread, most people get frustrated at the deliberate cherry picking to misrepresent the situation and state so, and this guarantees a response of "well you must be so bothered by me because you're replying 🤣🤣🤣". Three or four of the same posters all backing each other up, ignoring 99% of posts, until they shout over everyone else, then declaring how they've cleverly defeated another "attack" of the parents.

The ones I've just read are definitely like this OP.

I do appreciate you'll get a smattering of people like that in all walks of life, who do a disservice to most of the silent majority of the group they represent.

I did say “not often”. I wasn’t trying to make out it was a majority. And I was replying to this.

What I always think is super weird is when people who are childfree by choice come onto a parenting forum (yes, I know that it’s ’open to everyone’, not just about parenting etc yada yada yada) and take a pop at parents for enjoying having kids.

I don’t think the above happens as often as the other way around. I haven’t seen any childfree people having a pop at parents for enjoying having kids.

Thank you! We all rely on others' expertise at times and it is valuable to know people in different professions. Just back from a long walk and certainly would value your podiatrist friend's advice right now - thought they'd probably just call me a dick for not wearing socks and it is my own fault now!

What is your job @whippy1981 ?

Yet where was this energy for post saying older childfree women were just bitter?

The truth is there are sub-reddits full if regretful parents and there are childless people who deal with the pain of not having children. I think most happy people will not be attacking those who didn't make the same choices as them.

For what its worth I see far more parents complaining about children who are not their own than childfree people.

Maybe she missed that one post in amongst the vast sea of "really not bothered if you have children or not.

Interesting that yet again, it's what you hone in on. Just like OP. Cherry picking a tiny minority of posts.

The"energy" comes from the same as every other thread. Tedious frustration at trying to get across that 99% of people, sorry to tell you, couldn't care less about your life choices.

(This is the cue for "well you obviously do care or you wouldn't be posting")

If you were my friend I'd be asking advice! I have 2 friends who are respectively a teacher and child psychologist. They'd probably say I ask too much advice. Same as I annoy my pal who is a podiatrist about my feet and dental friends about my teeth. Expert advice from someone you know well is gold dust

believe what?

This But people hate lots of things. You can’t police other people’s opinions.

what you wrote on the thread about hating children @Youstolemygoddamnhouse

Rumbley · 18/05/2025 13:51

And many opposed the setting up of the board in the first place . A childfree board? Really? I must have missed that big opposition

Rumbley · 18/05/2025 13:49

HopscotchBanana · 18/05/2025 12:22

Do they...or like this thread, does the OP cherry pick the minority that suits their narrative?

I bet @KimberleyClark could maybe furnish us with a couple of examples if that

🙄 THIS is the kind of divisive, goady nonsense we don't need. Just stop it! Parents/mothers do not envy the childfree FFS. Any more than the childfree envy them. Give your head a wobble.
