To put this note on the neighbours door

So I live in a street that is basically all student house shares (myself included). One house has left bin bags outside their door (as opposed to in the bin down the street) and they’ve burst so rubbish is EVERYWHERE. I was woken up at 6 after a stressful exam by 20 seagulls on our street and I’m worried we’re going to get rats. Would I be unreasonable to stick this note to their door (I’d post it but I know most people here don’t look at their mail). This is kind of the final straw for me after multiple parties and a street FULL of rubbish is the final straw!

Just report to the council, no notes needed.

Pbjsand · 17/05/2025 12:16

Write in normal writing with black/blue biro. “Please clean up your rubbish which is strewn over the street as it is attracting vermin. If not done, I will have no choice but to report to xx with video evidence (fine £x)

Cursory · 17/05/2025 12:13

You should have written it in purple with some illustrations of seagulls and litter around the edge for full impact.

At least use a question mark on the question.

Report: Council, Landlord and Student Housing at Collecge or University.

What can the landlord or student housing do about it? Just the council will do fine.

I take everyone’s point. That was more of a vent and I will reword and make less aggressive. I’m running on about 2 hours sleep because of them and it’s very much straw that broke the camels back.

Understandable. Just be safe, I'd hate for them to start intimidating you. Anonymous report is better.

I hope it improves and you get sleep. Good luck on your exam results

Just report it to the council. A passive aggressive note they’ll howl with laughter at is a waste of time and effort.

Yes do this! The May respond with throwing eggs etc. The council will sort them out.

FamBae · 17/05/2025 10:32

I would be contacting Environmental Health and their Landlord, and if you don't know the landlord can you remember which estate agent they used, they may be able to provide you with contact details.

Tupelobound · 17/05/2025 10:29

The whole video evidence is giving me vibes from Taken.

Honestly OP, as much as it is annoying (and I'd be furious too). I'd go straight to reporting it. Even a new note isn't going to do you any favours.

Even a better written note is not the route to pursue. Scrap the note idea completely and just contact environmental health.

Please read updates. I have written a new note but won’t be knocking because they’re scary. Thank you

If they're that scary, then the note is going to do nothing. Either go speak to them, if that is completely not a possibility, skip the note completely and just report it.

AlannaOfTrebond · 17/05/2025 10:24

I work in student housing and they are pretty much never aggressive, lazy and absent minded is more like it. I can't imagine any of the students I've known egging someone's house.

Mischance · 17/05/2025 10:21

Vent away - but do not post this note, especially as it is so scrappily written - it looks like a joke. Just report the situation to environmental health and leave it at that.

rivalsbinge · 17/05/2025 10:20

Just go straight to reporting

Take someone with you then but should still ask in person. More likely to respond than to a passive aggressive note.

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/05/2025 10:18

This just screams of looking for drama, particularly with your follow up about being egged. They might have stupidly left a bag outside but they weren’t the ones who threw it all over the street overnight. “Hi neighbours, the foxes and seagulls got into your trash overnight, please clean it up and don’t leave bagged trash outside the house, use the wheelie bin” is perfectly clear.

Pippa12 · 17/05/2025 10:17

Dont post an aggressive note written in felt tip, you will lose all moral high ground and possibly evoke trouble to your door.

Report them to the council anonymously. That is honestly the only way.

I’d laugh at that note and mock the person who sent it tbh. It’s very immature and trying to act like a telling off, but they’re not children anymore.

You can write more of an adult message or go straight to the council, but scrap that note.

SilviaSnuffleBum · 17/05/2025 10:13

They will think a child has written that note. And, they will laugh. Lots.
Have you thought of maybe, IDK, talking to them?!

Lillith111 · 17/05/2025 10:12

@HardbackPaperback if they know it’s me they will probably get aggressive and egg my house or something. They’re 4 big blokes

OP posts:
HardbackPaperback · 17/05/2025 10:10

Try knocking on the door and asking.

NicolaCasanova · 17/05/2025 10:10

Your note is unhinged - the pale pink felt tip adds a certain touch - but YANBU to ask them to put their bags in the bin.
