Will these balloons ruin my wedding?

I am getting married in a historic, landmark in Aug. The venue has been quite strict on the things they will allow. It has been annoying at times but it’s a compromise we have to accept.

I want to add a fun element to the disco. I have found these balloons and think they are perfect. I showed the venue wedding coordinator and they said they’ve had bad experiences with balloons (wtf?) in the past so “they wouldn’t”. I feel this is overly dramatic. How hot can it get? It’s a medium sized period room (enough space for 85 people to dance).

The party room is going to be very low lit with up lights. I think the led balloons will be just right.

Do you think the venue is being ridiculous?

They haven’t said no. Just “I wouldn’t”

Well, unless it's specifically against the terms/rules of the venue, you can do whatever you want. However, I'd be listening to their advice. They've seen countless weddings and know what works, what doesn't and what's likely to cause problems. I'd at least go back to them and ask for more details on the bad experiences they've had in the past.

Oh don’t be ridiculous

us little people can have no lasting impact on reducing climate change - it’s the elites that could really change it and cause most of the problem..with no investment there nothing can change it

she never mentioned insta..she wants it for the full eve entertainment I assume

cant believe people keep advising on tacky..she hasn’t asked for style advice!

Sorry but I don't agree. Climate change is one thing, but producing lots of plastic tat and waste is something that 'us little people' are well placed to help do something about, by not buying it and not using it.

Left · 16/05/2025 15:38

Do you have to tidy the venue afterwards?

I went to a family wedding at a venue with very high ceilings. At the end of the night the bride was trying to pop all the escaped balloons with a spike on a pole several metres long. So if you have a lance it’ll probs be fine.

WanderleyWagon · 16/05/2025 15:38

Could the venue be worried about waste, as well as about risk? If you're just going to use them once and then throw them out that seems pretty wasteful to me. (am aware this is probably the most boring uptight take ever!)

In the kindest way or not..grow the fuck up.
I waaaant my balloons and I'll scream and scream till I'm Sick.

Are you ok?

ticktickticktickBOOM · 16/05/2025 15:37

Just more plastic tat to add to the giant world landfill.

outerspacepotato · 16/05/2025 15:36

Dangling exploding jellyfish could be "fun".

But what a fucking mess to clean up.

I would take the venue's advice on this one.

Bunnycat101 · 16/05/2025 15:34

I think you need to ask the venue why. They’ll have done hundreds of weddings and seen first hand what works well and what causes some challenges.

latetothefisting · 16/05/2025 15:34

The people snobs saying its because the venue don't want tacky balloons in their classy establishment are surely missing the logic that in order to have had vague "issues" with balloons before they must have had a fair few people with the same idea, so it's not as if OP is the only person who has ever had such a crazy, trashy idea.

Have any of you ever been to a wedding? A successful venue will be doing at least 150 weddings every year, not to mention other events. I guarantee literally every wedding venue, no matter how "naice" will have seen behaviour and decorations considerably more tacky than some light up balloons.

Outrageistheopiateofthemasses · 16/05/2025 15:34

Maybe I 'm just a basic bitch, but I think those are lovely

verityveritas · 16/05/2025 15:09

The thing is op it’s not just a one off if everyone has the same thought process is it? It’s potentially every wedding, which amounts to a lot of squandering from the earths resources, all for that ‘insta’ moment.
Will it ruin your wedding? Probably not, will it make your wedding anymore memorable? Doubt it. Will it result in more waste? for sure. Do you care? Probably not, should you care, probably.

burglaraphobia · 16/05/2025 15:31

I think you need to go back to the wedding venue coordinator and get very precise information about why they say they've had bad experiences with balloons and what exactly they are concerned about.

if it's issues like @Hdjdb42 mentions where because it's an old building the temperature means they will drop during the course of the evening and waist height and be rolling around the floor, you may want to rethink it.

If it's a few bursting because of the heat of lights over head you may think you can live with the risk or disturbance.

I agree the white ones look better. The coloured look a bit creepy jellyfish.

arcticpandas · 16/05/2025 15:31

While you are looking for kitch it very quickly gets to tacky level. Especially since it's a historic site it feels disrespectful of the lieu. Why don't you have your party at a site where the vibe you're looking for is in the walls?

JudgeBread · 16/05/2025 15:30

I think if balloons or the lack of balloons would make or break your wedding day then you perhaps shouldn't have chosen an historic building as your location as they usually have umpteen rules that are very rigid due to the buildings being listed.

Never mind that

How many animals did they kill?

At my wedding we sacrificed a bison.

iamaigenerated · 16/05/2025 15:29

In the heat? 😂 I'm from a tropical country that is way hotter on a regular basis than the UK ever was (including the UK's historic heatwaves which are actually low humidity, and just high temperatures on paper. I was there on London's so called hottest day in history and unimpressed).

I have never heard of balloons spontaneously melting or whatever they may be referring to. It's just an excuse. Maybe they're worried about the balloons floating and bursting all over the rest of the compound like litter?

menopause59 · 16/05/2025 15:29

I love them go for it

My friend works at a big house that is a wedding venue. It’s a massive place weddings are often in a marquee there as well as inside the house.
Fire lanterns are banned because at one wedding they didn’t get very high and set fire to an ancient tree in the park. Fire brigade were not amused, can understand why, who thinks letting burning litter loose into the night sky is a good idea!
Another wedding let a big bunch of helium balloons go by mistake and they got caught in nearby electrical wires and turned the power off to the village.
So I’d bet they’ve had a bad experience one way or another in the past with what you’re asking to do OP.

AthWat · 16/05/2025 15:28

I mean if you say "I'd like these balloons at the wedding" and the people at the venue say "I wouldn't if I were you" you have two options really.

  1. Ask them why not
  2. Come on a forum and ask a lot of strangers who have no idea why they said it why not

My mother taught me to be honest. And she loathed balloons to the point of phobia.

Maybe if it’s being passed down to you with such extreme force, you should consider therapy.

Your mother should’ve taught you manners as well. Sadly it’s evident she didn’t, although no reason for an adult to be unable to have some of their own.

Spirallingdownwards · 16/05/2025 15:27

My son had a Studio54 themed 21st with a silent disco. You can hire the headsets. That may give you the vibe you are after too? Alternatively speak to your DJ about their lighting systems and filters available. They can create specific vibes just with lighting .

They said they’ve had bad experiences in the past with the heat. But people have balloons in Texas in Summer, surely

What will happen to them afterwards?

Are they worried they would be released outside by some fools?

(I hate balloons unless responsibly dealt with)
