Will these balloons ruin my wedding?

I am getting married in a historic, landmark in Aug. The venue has been quite strict on the things they will allow. It has been annoying at times but it’s a compromise we have to accept.

I want to add a fun element to the disco. I have found these balloons and think they are perfect. I showed the venue wedding coordinator and they said they’ve had bad experiences with balloons (wtf?) in the past so “they wouldn’t”. I feel this is overly dramatic. How hot can it get? It’s a medium sized period room (enough space for 85 people to dance).

The party room is going to be very low lit with up lights. I think the led balloons will be just right.

Do you think the venue is being ridiculous?

Maybe the venue is trying to establish itself as environmentally friendly

vl888 · 16/05/2025 15:56

We got these types of balloons once for a corporate party and had a nightmare with them. The weight of the lights stopped them floating properly. they just dropped after a few seconds. Perhaps we had dodgy helium but if you do go ahead, I would test first. It was winter we tried them, so imagine warmer time of year would make it worse potentially....

Apparently her mum told her too, some never are able to cut those strings……

Just no need to be nasty for no reason.

andtheworldrollson · 16/05/2025 15:55

So ask what do they mean the heat but be prepared that you can’t have them

Plickers · 16/05/2025 15:53

Okay….i think you are projecting there slightly

Sorry that doesn't make sense, your not twelve what would balloons add to your wedding reception.
The venue said no.. accept their decision.

burglaraphobia · 16/05/2025 15:54

They told me because of the heat. Like I have said multiple times

But what about the heat? What are they saying the problem will be precisely? They will explode? They will drop to the floor? What? "the heat" is very vague

Brefugee · 16/05/2025 15:54

congrats on your upcoming wedding.

IMO all balloons are both tacky and a menace to the environment and should be banned.

BeFunnyCyanRaven · 16/05/2025 15:53

I think they are nice personally great for a disco

Ablondiebutagoody · 16/05/2025 15:53

Their venue, their rules. Plus they look shit.

But what do they mean? You need to check with them.

You seem to be being a little bit willfully obtuse about why people are saying "speak to the venue".

Plickers · 16/05/2025 15:53

TheMVPSTurningmyheartbeatup · 16/05/2025 15:35

In the kindest way or not..grow the fuck up.
I waaaant my balloons and I'll scream and scream till I'm Sick.

Okay….i think you are projecting there slightly

AthWat · 16/05/2025 15:28

I mean if you say "I'd like these balloons at the wedding" and the people at the venue say "I wouldn't if I were you" you have two options really.

  1. Ask them why not
  2. Come on a forum and ask a lot of strangers who have no idea why they said it why not

They told me because of the heat. Like I have said multiple times

Don’t know, but it was a particularly nasty unnecessary comment, was your opinion that important?

Just another vote for "ugly AF and plastic waste is disgusting"

TooGoodToGoto · 16/05/2025 15:48

TheMVPSTurningmyheartbeatup · 16/05/2025 15:46

Yes because how important are balloons in the grand scheme of getting married?

comoatoupeira · 16/05/2025 15:47

Do they mean people start playing with them, messing around with them? I agree, maybe it could distract from the sexy, fun dance party atmosphere?

TooGoodToGoto · 16/05/2025 15:47

Iloveyoubut · 16/05/2025 15:45

Why say that? OP never asked anyone if they liked the look of the balloons. Why just be nasty for the sake of it to make someone feel like shit. Why would you just want to make womeone you don’t even know feel like shit for no reason.

Apparently her mum told her too, some never are able to cut those strings……

They're doing you a favour, those balloons are super tacky

Well, unless it's specifically against the terms/rules of the venue, you can do whatever you want. However, I'd be listening to their advice. They've seen countless weddings and know what works, what doesn't and what's likely to cause problems. I'd at least go back to them and ask for more details on the bad experiences they've had in the past.

Wise advice, @C152 .

I’d want a tonne at ceiling level. Thats my vision.

Are you going up a ladder to get them back down then?

Vaxtable · 16/05/2025 15:41

If they said no it’s a no, get over it

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/05/2025 15:41

I think you’ve chosen a historic venue for your wedding. Historic conjures up elegant, classical, of a period.

The balloons are the opposite of that.

The venue have advised against it and whilst not an outright veto, it does look very much as though they’d really prefer you not to have them. I wouldn’t risk spoiling the relationship you have with the venue.

JosephGeorge · 16/05/2025 15:40

Doggielovecharlotte · 16/05/2025 15:32

Oh don’t be ridiculous

us little people can have no lasting impact on reducing climate change - it’s the elites that could really change it and cause most of the problem..with no investment there nothing can change it

she never mentioned insta..she wants it for the full eve entertainment I assume

cant believe people keep advising on tacky..she hasn’t asked for style advice!

You might think we can have no impact, but we can if we all take more care. Having said that, a friend of mine lost a dear baby donkey because he swallowed a balloon that some fuckwit had let it off to mark the death of a relative, so maybe that would be a good reason to have a bit more thought about consequences.
Kill an animal - what a great way to mark a 'special day' or the passing of a relative eh?
