Husband uses my towel!!

Exactly that!

Am I being unreasonable to think DH should use his own towel when showering/bathing?

We hang our towels on the back on the back of our bedroom door, my towel is usually pink or purple as I bought them for me and my daughter when we lived together, just us two, a girls house. DH’s towel is usually blue or green, from his house when he lived by himself!

I’m suffering tonight with cramps and back pain and it may be because it’s TOTM but DH had a shower and then came downstairs with my pink towel around his waist and it really annoyed me!! I’ve told him so many times to use his own towel. Tonight he just said in his nonchalant male tone “sorry I just grabbed the first one I saw!!”. He just doesn’t seem to get it. I only changed the towels this weekend and now he has used both of ours, so I’m going to have to get another clean towel tomorrow morning!

YABU - get yourself some chocolate and get over it he is your husband!

YANBU - he should be more understanding, send him out to get you chocolate!

Oh no! Skin cells are literal poison! And pubic hair is equally has harmful to human beings!!!! I can't wait until there is a vaccine for these deadly pathogens!!!!!!!

We are all entitled to our opinions and in my humble opinion, people that reuse towels for a week cannot be clean. Just even the thoughts of drying myself with a towel that has been used twice a day for a week is disgusting.

ExhaustedPigeon37 · 15/05/2025 21:46

Update: he used his own towel today!! Mine has remained in situ (in the bedroom) and his was hung up on the bathroom door! 🥳🥳

People don't dry their toes? You're all blowing my mind today😂Do they just airdry?

Temperlee · 14/05/2025 20:18

I'd argue you have an even bigger problem than the OP has then!!

Well I mean he’d be offended if I made such a massive deal about sharing a towel!

No, you’re not. But unlike the uber-squeamish MN cohort, we don’t have a horror of sharing towels.

It’s not about being squeamish. I was brought up not to share towels, after 71 years of having my own towel for my exclusive use I’m not about to change. Why would I?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/05/2025 09:53

mugglewump · 13/05/2025 21:54

Well I never realised that people in a family household had their own towels. We just have shared towels. Are we the weird ones?

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 15/05/2025 09:51

I don't understand why people are debating whether it's fine to share towels or not. Some households do and some households don't. The OP comes from a non towel sharing household and doesn't want to share towels. She seems to be doing the washing. She has asked her husband not to use her towel, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to ask, when there is a clean towel for him to use, easily available. So it's shit that he can't even reach round for his own towel rather than use the OPs.

One thing I would do differently though OP is make him wash it once he has used it. At the moment you are dealing with the natural consequences of his actions and there is no impact on him.

Elizacat · 15/05/2025 09:41

On the occasions I’ve found out my partner has used my towel all hell breaks loose. I don’t want him flossing his arse with my towel and then me using it to it dry round my bits. It’s totally unhygienic.

I’ve also never dried between my toes and never had athletes foot. I’m shocked people dry their toes tbh

You’re shocked people prone to athletes foot take steps to prevent it? Seriously?

I’ve never not dried between my toes! I had no idea people didn’t! 😮

I've never wanted to share a bath towel after watching Frank Skinner's standup when he talks about drying himself on a white towel. Plus, I admit that I am influenced by the articles saying that '90% of towels are contaminated with faecal bacteria, and that 56% of romantic partners spread faecal bacteria when they share bath and shower towels'.

If you flush the toilet with the lid up then the towels in the room also get fecal matter on them.

SapporoBaby · 15/05/2025 09:29

Delphiniumandlupins · 14/05/2025 15:07

OK. Those who share towels/use the first dry one they come to - how wide is your communal towel pool? You and DH? Your household, including teenagers? What about overnight guests? If you were sharing a room on holiday with a friend? If you were sharing a house on holiday with extended family (including in-laws)?

Yeah I honestly don’t care who uses my towels after they’ve washed themselves. My mum, a friend, their boyfriend, a guest. It’s a towel… maybe wouldn’t love a stranger from the street walking in and having a scrub.

I’ve never dried between my toes in my entire life and in my 49 years on this earth I’ve never had athlete’s foot.

You’re extremely fortunate then. I was plagued with it when I was younger hence religiously drying between my toes every time my feet get wet.

We just have a load of grey towels. Dh and I share a bathroom so we just use the same ones. Dd and ds tend to keep theirs separate.

I was irritated the other day when I noticed a towel that had been used had a bit of blood on it (my totm) so must have been me the previous day and I hadn’t noticed. I put it in the wash and got a clean one (whilst soaking wet) dh later said “oh you noticed the blood on the towel?”!!!! So he had seen it and left the towel there! Whe I asked why he hadn’t put it in the wash he said he wasn’t sure if I had finished with it!

Wow. I do dry between my toes, I'm 44 and I've had athlete's foot once. There have been a couple of people saying they don't dry between their toes after bathing or showering, is this something I don't need to be concerning myself with? 🤣

Whatever the responses, I'm still drying between my toes.

Temperlee · 14/05/2025 20:14

YANBU.

We haven't shared towels since our DC were little over 15 years ago following a threadworm outbreak!!🤢 I can't believe anyone would share towels after going through that!

Plus my teens would be utterly grossed out to think they wiped their face on the same towel their dad wiped his (clean) arse on 😅..so would I come to think of it 🤣

Inertia · 14/05/2025 20:05

It’s not necessarily a question of feeling squeamish- most of us don’t want to dry ourselves with a towel which is already wet.

Either he’s genuinely ignorant or he’s trying to get a rise out of you. Neither is great.

You can talk to him, or move your towel somewhere else to dry. But if you’re having to play silly beggars because he chooses to do something that bothers you, it’s not a respectful relationship.

Happyearlyretirement · 14/05/2025 19:56

RhaenysRocks · 14/05/2025 04:50

Why stupid? I think all the washing after one use, "yuk" comments and worrying about skin infections is a bit stupid unless you actually know someone has something. Equally, the comment about drying between your toes..do people actually sit there and methodically do that? By the time I'm putting my socks on my feet are air dried.

No wonder the stress levels and anxiety in adults is so bloody high if something as mundane and every day as a shower and a towel requires a routine, a laundry rota and health anxiety about accidentally getting skin cells on you from the person you sleep next to in bed.

Absolutely agree, I’ve lots of lovely towels but we all use them. I always put fresh towels out for overnight guests in their rooms but ap as rt from that I’m very confident my families hygiene levels are high enough to know when a fresh towel is needed.

Mollysocks · 14/05/2025 19:18

I can see why it’s annoying but he’s your husband, without being crude you share other bodily bits, him wiping his clean body isn’t that big of a deal?

Don't be so stupid with the sarcasm....she's allowed to have a buggering bath towel to herself, we don't have to share everything in life ffs 😑
