Do phalloplasties actually work?

After wondering about this for a while, I ended up searching phalloplasty online and ended up on a Reddit page where people post their progress. I had never seen one before an was curious, I guess. It was actually quite shocking. People with what looks like no muscle left on their forearms, someone with a necrotic 'scrotum', someone where the stitches were wide open and the tip has turned black and left a gaping hole etc etc. People seem to be commenting saying that they look great, they've made the right decision etc, but honestly they look absolutely butchered. It's scary. And I guess my question is, do they actually function? Some of these people are so young and it's scary what they've done to their bodies. I can't help but think a lot of them will regret the decision. Is it mainly cosmetic? Can they orgasm? Honestly just very shocked by what I've seen!

Just to be clear, you consider this is not a cause for concern?

I'd much rather focus on the issues around the subject that are a cause for concern and that's what I and the groups I'm associated with do, and that's how we have.madr the progress we have. Not by muddying the waters with myths and scaremongering.

I get it, you don’t think women’s safety, or women getting assaulted are ‘a cause for concern’. I presume your groups are men’s rights activists?

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:42

Men aren't dressing as women to harassment women, therefore arguments that they will start to present or identify as women to increase harassment are void.

The actual issues are around capacity, consent, and protecting gendered spaces where privacy and health are concerned. Like wards, and sports.

So this 'didn't happen' then. Goodo.

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:22

So your issue is about people thinking they've changed sex, not the consent and capacity problems?

No.

It is that every aspect of this fallacious belief adversely affects women and girls.

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:45

FlakyCritic · 13/05/2025 08:43

People who don't believe getting bigger breasts will change their sex are not mentally ill.
People who believe getting bigger breasts will change their sex are mentally ill.

So the only way someone who wants massive tits could be mentally ill, is if they think it will change their sex?

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:21

Most harassment to men and girls isn't coming from men dressed as women. That's almost irrelevant to the issue.

The surgeries have little impact on the rights of women - in fact, you could argue allowing them would respect that women have the right to destroy themselves as they wish.

I'd focus purely on the individual mental capacity of people to consent to such surgery. That's where the ethical issues lie.

Is not a reason to dismiss the harassment that is.

The surgeries have little impact on the rights of women

Little impact is not no impact, and “little” is arguable.

I'd focus purely on the individual mental capacity of people to consent to such surgery. That's where the ethical issues lie.

This is at least partly true, though there are additional ethical issues to do with the rights of women and girls to safety, privacy and dignity, as we have to repeat over and over again.

What on earth are you on about? The internet is full of trans identified men declaring they will ignore the law and continue to invade women’s spaces including vulnerable women on hospital wards, women locked up in prison with male rapists, gils being forced to undress in front of boys. Plus women taking their employers to court for harassment and sexual discrimination due to being forced to get undressed in front of men who simply announce they identify as women. For example:

I didn’t mention toilets but I am not sure why you think it ok to dismiss the victims of male sexual assault in females toilets or the school girls getting infections from holding on all day rather than use mixed sex toilets because of male behaviour. Your attitude to female victims of sexual assault and harassment is shocking.

Here you summsried your argument perfectly well. People who want bigger breasts aren't mentally ill. People who want to change sex are. Very definite and black and white.

For any of that to make sense, you'd have to know that currently, zero men (trans or not) are sharing women's spaces and formally permitting them to would increase it. We don't know that.

The whole.toilet issue is a complete red herring and only serves to devalue your argument. The issues lie in consent, capacity, and things like wards and sports.

I begged my bosses not to let trans nurse take part in my operation

Karen Danson's father started to sexually abuse her when she was six. It could have been yesterday, so vivid are the memories.

You got that from what I said?

I said that people who think they can change their sex are mentally ill. People who want bigger breasts don't think they can change their sex, hence are not mentally ill.

Men dressed as women are still men. It doesn't matter what they wear, whether it be a dress, a suit and tie, or a football outfit. It's still....a.....man. Attire means one fifth of fuck all.

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:38

FlakyCritic · 13/05/2025 08:34

I've been reading this site for years. Arguing that mentally ill people shouldn't be preyed upon by unscrupulous doctors is NOT 'anti trans'. Saying that it is, is so far from the truth, that it just proves my point.

Nobody should be pretend upon by unscrupulous doctors. Maybe you're actually pro-trans because you actually only care about them and not the woman who knows she is a woman but is also preyed upon. Is that it?

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:37

FlakyCritic · 13/05/2025 08:36

No I didn't say that at all. You're desperately flailing about now. It's sad to watch.

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:37

FlakyCritic · 13/05/2025 08:36

Now you're sealioning, and desperately so. A person who thinks they can literally change their sex with surgery is mentally ill. That's the point.

So why isn't someone who thinks they're more of a woman or a better woman with M sized boobs also mentally ill?

FlakyCritic · 13/05/2025 08:36

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:31

Yes we understand that you think mental illness only consists of wanting to change your sex. We've got that.

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:36

LesserCelandine · 13/05/2025 08:33

If you want M sized boobs you can get M sized boobs. They are not delusional. You can’t ever change your sex.

So because you can actually have M sized boobs by sticking things in them to blow them up, they're not mentally ill. Even though they could be malfucntional and deformed. But someone who wants malfucntional and deformed is definitely mentally ill?

Yeah that doesn't compute.

FlakyCritic · 13/05/2025 08:36

MyOliveHelper · 13/05/2025 08:31

So you're only mentally ill if you want to change your sex, but not if you want size M boobs through surgery. Righty oh.

If you think that, you haven't read any of my posts on these issues on the site. I'm against the problematic issues, not the people. That seems to be the difference. And I'm involved with these issues on quite a big scale too.

Saying that I'm "pro-mutilation" in this context is so far from the truth, that it just proves my point.

Most harassment to men and girls isn't coming from men dressed as women. That's almost irrelevant to the issue.

This is the prosecutors fallacy; because the risk of sharing a space with a trans identified man is small the risk from trans identified men is also small. But the fact that the overall number of trans identified men is small is irrelevant once you are sharing that space - at that point the only relevant statistic is the risk from a trans identified man, and the risk of being sexual assaulted is then between four and nine times higher than for other men. Though you don’t need to be sexually assaulted to be harassed; ignoring your boundaries and your privacy and dignity by entering a female only space and turning it mixed sex without your consent will already be enough.

For any of that to make sense, you'd have to know that currently, zero men (trans or not) are sharing women's spaces and formally permitting them to would increase it. We don't know that.
