Do phalloplasties actually work?

SilverTapz · 11/05/2025 22:38

After wondering about this for a while, I ended up searching phalloplasty online and ended up on a Reddit page where people post their progress. I had never seen one before an was curious, I guess. It was actually quite shocking. People with what looks like no muscle left on their forearms, someone with a necrotic 'scrotum', someone where the stitches were wide open and the tip has turned black and left a gaping hole etc etc. People seem to be commenting saying that they look great, they've made the right decision etc, but honestly they look absolutely butchered. It's scary. And I guess my question is, do they actually function? Some of these people are so young and it's scary what they've done to their bodies. I can't help but think a lot of them will regret the decision. Is it mainly cosmetic? Can they orgasm? Honestly just very shocked by what I've seen!

Which arguments are weak exactly?

Arguments that ignore that lots of other people have equally risky surgery for other non-medical reasons.

So you are against unnecessary, uninformed, experimental surgery, of which this is a very extreme example, or you're not? Are you just unhappy this isn't a general thread about all surgeries, because you're welcome to go start one?

Of course I'm against it. I'm just consistently against all types of surgery that fits that bill. Not just the types that young trans people might get.

Listen, I'm really really against this trans teen stuff. Like massively against it. I thought this site was a collection of people who felt similarly and it kind of is. I'm disappointed that the arguments against held by a lot of members are weak though. There isn't consistency on your fears around these issues and so it comes across like you are just bigoted.

Such a very female body still, despite the modifications.

Also a very sad back story involving sexual violence. A troubled person.

In that case, read this essay on the subject from someone who is very happy with the results of a phalloplasty procedure.

That's the woman who was so traumatised by taking a woman who'd been a victim of rape to hospital in Haiti that she asked her ex boyfriend to pretend to rape her. I don't think she's on the level.

How on earth these operations are even legal is completely beyond me. It's hardly worth complaining about FGM in so called underdeveloped countries when we allow barbaric "sex change" operations in our own.

Not just 'people'.

The Cass Review confirmed what various whistleblowers from the Tavistock had been saying for years — that almost every patient they saw was either autistic: lesbian or gay and from a homophobic family or culture that didn't support homosexuality: a victim of sexual abuse: from a chaotic and unstable family background or the care system.

We have been sterilising and mutilating some of the most vulnerable young people in society in the name of kindness and acceptance. We've been sterilising and training away lesbian and gay and autistic people. It's not just the surgery that does so much damage. Cross-sex hormones have terrible effects on bones: so many of the young trans people you see at events use sticks. There is a lack of brain development and lower IQ in those who were prescribed puberty blockers when young. It's the biggest medical and social scandal since the craze for dealing with opinionated women by giving them lobotomies.

This is excellent ⬆️

Actually no, destroying your adult teeth in your early 20s for good is a pretty extreme thing to do. If you can't see how they are comparable, then perhaps you don't have a true place at the table for this debate.

It's extreme body modification without proper informed consent, often to people too young to realise the enormity of their actions. The only difference is that most the people getting their teeth filed down to nubs don't identify as trans.

So you are against unnecessary, uninformed, experimental surgery, of which this is a very extreme example, or you're not? Are you just unhappy this isn't a general thread about all surgeries, because you're welcome to go start one?

Yes! People are dying from BBLs. They are ruining their oral function with turkey teeth. Fillers etc are toxic and are going wrong too. And of course labioplasty (which is illegal as a form of FGM) can cause sexual dysfunction.

It makes no sense to be terrified if what trans teens might be doing while your daughter is walking around with horsey teeth she bought on holiday and her ass expanded with whatever crap they put in it.

All of those things are wrong, just because there are other unacceptable things happening it doesn’t make this ok. Added to that is that these experimental surgeries are being carried out on vulnerable, ND young people, who are being sold a lie. It’s unethical and morally reprehensible.

How are drs legally allowed to butcher people in this way ?

You can find any corrupt doctor who will do anything... for a price. Just ask Michael Jackson's family (the doctor Conrad Murray who gave him the fatal Propofol). Sadly some doctors can be bought. And determined patients will 'doctor shop'. Not that they have to do that with gender 'affirming' 'care'. There is a whole industry that rake in an estimated several billion world wide from it.

Thst picture with healthy breasts lopped off is awful, it's sick, it's sad. Young girls, young women, scared to be female butchering themselves.

Gloriia · 12/05/2025 08:39

'The only difference is that most the people getting their teeth filed down to nubs don't identify as trans.'

Just total false equivalence. Dental work is not comparable to extreme body mutilation that ends up looking like body mutilation and not remotely like the gender a person identifies with.

Why doesn't anyone tell them the truth, tats beards and lumps of fashioned skin make them look like women with tats, beards and fake penises, not men sadly.

Full sympathy for anyone tormented by their dysphoria but counselling and dressing how you like a better plan than massive mutilation.

Blueredyellowgreen · 12/05/2025 08:38

Nameychangington · 11/05/2025 22:57

Or we could ask someone like transman Scott Newgent who's had one:

https://www.genderdysphoriaalliance.com/post/meet-scott-newgent

Sounds like trans people are guinea pigs for crazy surgeons.

"My medical complications have included seven surgeries, a pulmonary embolism, an induced stress heart attack, sepsis, a 17-month recurring infection, 16 rounds of antibiotics, three weeks of daily IV antibiotics, arm reconstructive surgery, lung, heart and bladder damage, insomnia, hallucinations, PTSD, $1 million in medical expenses, and loss of home, car, career and marriage. All this, and yet I cannot sue the surgeon responsible—in part because there is no structured, tested or widely accepted baseline for transgender health care."

The lie that you can change sex has to be corrected. The danage done to individuals believing this lie. Parents wise up before your children are brainwashed into this ideology. Get counselling, get help so they see the lie that you can change sex is exposed.

None of those examples you mention are going to affect their sexual function or their normal bladder function - now are they?

I agree. None of those examples are comparative at all to phalloplasties. I think if someone thinks that they are comparative, they are downplaying phalloplasties and their brutality on the female body.

I don't need to. I know how I feel about the issue, and that's why I bring it up where relevant. Extreme body modification by young people isn't just a trans issue. It isn't even mainly a trans issue. The majority of young people doing it aren't trans.

User37482 · 12/05/2025 08:35

It’s just so incredibly sad, I’ve since transwomen trying to claim that their “vagina” is like an actual vagina. Similarly you can’t recreate the same tissue or function as an actual vagina.

These people have beens old a lie, it’s really really awful.

Hoppinggreen · 12/05/2025 08:34

MyOliveHelper · 12/05/2025 08:25

I don't see ant my threads about it and yet everyone is terrified about what trans kids are doing to themselves. It makes no sense at all. If body modification at such a young age is an issue, then it's an issue for all young people modifying their bodies. Not just ones who think they are the wrong sex.

That is a very troubled person who transitioned after a violent stranger rape in Hait.

What next, shave down the hips to get rid of the curves to give them a 'real' man's physique?
What these women do to themselves is just horrific.

MyOliveHelper · 12/05/2025 08:31

hididdlyho · 12/05/2025 08:28

It's crazy how these surgeries are deemed acceptable, yet if a child free woman in her 20s or 30s, who knows she doesn't want kids, asks for her tubes tied the answer is no.

Yes this is another thing that is problematic. Real issues.

MyOliveHelper · 12/05/2025 08:30

TheKeatingFive · 12/05/2025 08:26

Super happy to be called a 'bigot' by clueless people if this is the price of calling out this horrific surgery.

You're not calling out the price of horrific surgery though. You're targeting one set of people who have horiric surgery that they're probably not informed enough to consent to. You don't seem to care about others who are the same age and having it for very similar reasons as long as they identity as the correct sex.

That shows its all about stopping trans people from existing over saving people from the horror of extreme, unethical surgery.

I'm against all those types of cosmetic procedure for the same reasons.

JasmineAllen · 12/05/2025 08:28

TheOriginalEmu · 12/05/2025 01:55

Well they might be informed on some issues, but not this one.
Sometimes with the aid of pumps etc you can get an erection after phaloplasty. Does it work the same as a cis man’s penis, no. But they CAN be functional.
Would you be this concerned if your son had need of reconstructive surgery after cancer or an accident?

It’s interesting because as a person who lost a leg at the hip as well as pelvic muscle. my body looks very different to the norm. If I was to have reconstructive surgery I still wouldn’t look ‘normal’ but for me it would be fantastic. Who is anyone else to judge what I want my body to look like? Same goes for trans men.

You're conflating 2 completely different things.

If someone has lost a body part because of injury or cancer they are having reconstructive surgery to attempt to replicate what they've lost.

If someone is having healthy body parts removed/inflated/tweaked etc without any physical need then that is cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is very sadly common place these days. Experimental genital surgery like phalloplasty and the male version, vagiplasty?, falls into the cosmetic class of surgery, it's just an extreme version of it.

No one is going to judge you for what you want your body to look like, but they will judge a system that operates on mentally ill people to unnecessarily remove and replace their genitals (or any other healthy body part) resulting in life long health problems.
