Sharing towels???

Inspired by another thread, do people actually have family towels that they share? This seems absolutely revolting to me 🤢

YABU - sharing towels is normal
YANBU - eww, everyone should have their own towel.

I always have my own towel. My DC is older now but have their own towels ,colour coded and from different stores, as white and grey seem to be popular here! I breastfed my DS until over a year old and he was a velcro baby .However as a strapping lad with a GF I think its just more hygenic. My DH had a verruca and I would not want that transferred!

dogcatkitten · 11/05/2025 11:01

I put out communal towels for anyone to use, but in practise I have my own and DD has her own so DH has the communal ones to himself usually. Hand towels are shared, but changed daily. As above body (bath) towel not used for face (small) towel for face/hair. But no one will die if they use the wrong towel. We are all clean by definition having just got out of the bath/shower at the point of using the towels anyway. Wouldn't use a nasty cold damp towel though.

And that was half a century ago or are you still stuck there?

Possibly a bit stuck ! But no, own towels and daily showers here now. I even have a hairdryer 🤣

It's so weird to me that people would have their husbands cock in their mouth but think sharing a towel with him or using his toothbrush is disgustingly hideous. I can't get my head around it.

Totally agree. I live alone now but when my son stays he grabs any towel to dry his hair and body after a shower.

I pushed him out of my vagina and fed him from my breast - I really cant get worked up about him using my towel to dry his clean hair and body

lavenderlou · 11/05/2025 10:42

DP and I share, DC have their own towels which are usually discarded on their bedroom floors. Towel is literally used to wrap around your body for one minute, we don't wipe our bum cracks with them.

Even more horrifyingly, we only wash them once a week!

mindutopia · 11/05/2025 10:40

Yes and no, I think it’s grim. I have my own towel, which I guard very closely. Dh and the dc seem to cycle through a week mostly using the same towel, despite all my efforts press nice fresh towels into their hands.

Even worse, said towel, which starts to smell mouldy, mostly lives on the floor of the bathroom wedged between the toilet and the wall between uses because that’s they all drop it. I honestly don’t know how I’ve ended up related to these people.

Just as bad, when we have houseguests, BIL and SIL for example, Dh gives them one towel. We have a whole f-ing stack of nice clean towels (as evidenced above). They are adults. Give them each a towel! It’s very weird.

IOYOYO · 11/05/2025 10:39

@FartyAnimal this is what we do. I make sure they’re dry and washed regularly, beyond that, I don’t have the inclination to keep track of whose is whose. But no, no sharing toothbrushes obvs. I also use a clean flannel every day and that I won’t share either. Same with dh and the kids.

FartyAnimal · 11/05/2025 10:36

I live with just husband now, and we have two towels out and both use whichever one is dry (after use they get hung across the landing stairs rail to dry, then put back in bathroom when dry. They get washed regularly obviously. When son comes home he has his own, although growing up he was a group towel user! Just make sure they are dried and aired between uses. Wouldn't share a toothbrush though!

Rosierambles · 11/05/2025 10:35

People use mine after me because I'm the only one who hangs it up so it's dry and they think it's clean and use it while the others moulder on floors. DS2 just used the one I hung up last night
So I don't share but they're using mine - whether they know or not I don't know

DoubleShotEspresso · 11/05/2025 10:34

That is beyond rank- whoever would fo this?

IOYOYO · 11/05/2025 10:34

Does everyone have colour coded towels or labels on them or something? We have 2 colourful older towels that the kids use somewhat interchangeably as they often bathe together too. Apart from that we have 2 sets of bath sheets and smaller towels for hair etc that me and my dh share. One set is usually in use at any one time - and the other in the wash. No I don’t want to use a towel to dry my face that my dh has used on his body, but that’s why we both use 2 towels per wash - a body and a face/hair one.

Given that I share my bed and have sex with him, I can’t find it in me to get worked up over a towel that dries his clean body and is washed regularly. At a pinch, I’ll also use the ones my kids use, because they’re my kids and we’re generally all fairly clean!

Presuming this thread is about using one towl between people…..

Absolutely not - why would I want to dry my face on a towl that my husband has used to dry his arse / balls?

You shouldn’t share a towel if it’s damp or used, because towels can harbour bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Sharing towels increases the risk of spreading skin infections or even body odour.

We each have a clean towl which get washed once a week at 60 degrees.

I hope you don't ever snog him then, fuck knows what you'd catch from his saliva if you did. You'd have bad breath and mouth ulcers before you know it.

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/05/2025 10:33

Exactly, it's most odd.

Maybe everyone has really filthy husbands who can't work out how to clean their bums properly.

Ahsheeit · 11/05/2025 10:33

Shared as a kid in the 70s and 80s. Have 2 sets of my own, and have for years. Meant that they didn't end up disappearing into my daughter's room, or get used for dyeing/bleaching hair, or anything else 4 teens would have used them for. Only my eldest lad is still at home, and still got separate.

stayathomer · 11/05/2025 10:33

Op not back but I’d hope they don’t mean it’s disgusting to use a towel that has since been washed?!

JudgeBread · 11/05/2025 10:31

I don't understand the hysteria over the idea of using the same towel as your SO. You use a towel when you're literally at the cleanest you'll ever be, fresh out of a shower. What's the issue?

Like you'll share bodily fluids with these people but not a towel?

Jen579 · 11/05/2025 10:29

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/05/2025 10:24

@NorthernSpirit ummm do you not have separate face and hand towels? By your view it is surely just as unacceptable to dry your face with a towel you have used to dry your own arse on?

I also don't know what people are doing to bath towels to make them so dirty. Me, I use one for about 3 mins or so to dry my clean body.

Also how do you "spread body odour" by using a towel to dry your clean body? Do you people no know how to wash properly or something? People on hear are nuts.

Nourishinghandcream · 11/05/2025 10:22

When we only had one bathroom we used separate towels.
We now have separate bathrooms (which is great😆).
All towels are washed together (do a towel wash a couple of times a week) and clean towels come from a single cupboard.

rosemarble · 11/05/2025 10:18

You’d find me and my son revolting then.
Or maybe you wouldn’t because to look at us you’d never know I (sit down, wait for it) dried my clean body with the same towel that my son used to dry his clean body.

YABU - sharing towels is normal
YANBU - eww, everyone should have their own towel.

Do you mean sharing a towel someone else has used to dry themselves (minging) or having a cupboard with the same pattern/colour of towel that people chose and have for their sole use? (Not minging)
Hand towels? Bath towels? Beach towels?

fatgirlswims · 11/05/2025 09:43

Sharing a used towel is grim.
Putting dirty damp towels in the dryer to freshen up is also grim.

I’d use any towel that was clean but I actually have a few sets of my own bath sheets and hand towels for my hair that are nice a soft and pink! DH has bath towels
I get a bit funny about hand towels in bathrooms when I have to go to someone’s house and they don’t have a separate bathroom.

and in my own house now we have down stairs shower room instead of just a loo!

Totallytoti · 11/05/2025 09:41

Sahara123 · 11/05/2025 09:29

Interesting how things change isn’t it, growing up in the 60’s/70’s there were 5 of us, one bathroom and one shower room. Separate shower rooms were a new thing ! It never occurred to us to have 5 towels in there so we just used to share whatever was there ! As a kid we didn’t used to shower every day either, and Sunday night bath night was a thing. My sister and I used to fight to have our bath when the Top 20 countdown was on to listen to the charts on a transistor radio. Pop music was otherwise banned unfortunately. Complete with drying your hair in front of the fire.

And that was half a century ago or are you still stuck there?

WimbyAce · 11/05/2025 09:40

We share towels, kids have their own for baths etc. Don't really see the issue, like someone said they are used for drying clean bodies?! Not sure how much washing people can be doing if they are changing them every couple of days!
