To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

On the BBC today. The UN has condemned using man made starvation as a war tactic. Surely we can come to a general consensus that whatever you think about the conflict, Israel's actions here are just plain evil?

Surprisingly, a quick scroll back reveals that the Israeli government don’t appear to be posting here. I wasn’t addressing holocaust inversion. I was addressing the fact that Israel’s response to criticism of its’ conduct is to shout ‘anti semitism’ to shut down the debate. But then you knew that.

Look at the quote history to see what you were responding to

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 08:27

Can I ask what you think would happen is Israel was no longer able to defend itself?

Children would be able to live?

Rosscameasdoody · 11/05/2025 09:41

How convenient.

What do you mean?

Bigfatsunandclouds · 11/05/2025 09:42

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 08:28

I don’t care what Hamas or anyone else has done

You don’t care about whatthe violent raping terrorists have done? You don’t think it’s at all relevant to the situation?

You think that means that we should effectively starve the entire population? Hamas are awful, they committed grave crimes but what Israel has done and are doing is so disproportionate and it's plain evil. Israel want to be a democracy and seen as the west as a beacon of hope in the middle east then they need to stop behaving like egomaniac dictatoral monsters, this is barbaric.

Rosscameasdoody · 11/05/2025 09:41

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 09:18

That’s because anti-Israel sentiment is often peppered with antisemitism. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

How convenient.

TheFrendo · 11/05/2025 09:40

Hamas should return the remaining hostages, hand over those guilty of the October 7th attacks then surrender.

Potsofpetals · 11/05/2025 09:39

hummousnothamas · 11/05/2025 08:35

Of course you don’t care what Hamas has done.

If you cared you’d have to question the simplistic good guy/bad narrative you are enjoying.

And maybe you have so dehumanized Israeli children, women and men that you genuinely don’t care. In which case you have become the monster you claim to hate.

Well said. Isreal is doing nothing more than stand its ground. These ‘civilians’ that are now ‘starving’ danced in the streets when Hamas raped and murdered innocent people.

Zero sympathy do I have. It is a lesson to each and every supporter of radical terrorists. You rape, bomb, murder. This is what will happen to you.

This whole thread is full of posts condemning the Israeli government and no one has called that anti semetic.

The holocaust inversion was called out.

Israel = another European settler colony protecting the interests of Europe and America in the middle East.

We long ago stopped equating Zionism, a dangerous racist supremacy ideology with Judaism.

Britain is colluding in the suffering of Palestine by providing fighter jet parts, intelligence and diplomatic cover for Israel, it is shameful but not surprising.

"European settler colony"

Did you realise that less than 40% of Israelis have European or American ancestry?

Don’t waste your time with @JandamiHash . You cannot reason with people like that. What a horrifying world we live in with people who actually think like this.

Oh I’m so sorry I’m not subscribing to the “they’re just evil!” Mindset, many grovelling apologies for recognising that it’s all nuanced.

Shocking that a quarter of Mumsnetters think it isn't 🤔

Who’s said it isn’t?

So, for clarity, you’re agreeing with me that the Israeli government’s systematic starvation of the Palestinian population in Gaza is wrong and a war crime?
No whataboutery, no equivocation…

I’m saying Hamas’s actions and complicity in starving their people is wrong.

Why do you think Israel is blocking aid? And what do you think of aid being stolen (as witnessed by aid workers) when it reaches Gaza? How are you going to blame Israel for that?

TomeTome · 11/05/2025 09:28

I think most people would support the UN taking over now. It’s time we stopped this rather than wringing our hands on the sidelines.

Joyunlimited · 11/05/2025 09:27

WhereIsMyJumper · 11/05/2025 08:32

Called it. First page and we already have ‘what about Hamas’
FFS.
Is it possible that maybe, just maybe, the actions of BOTH Hamas and the Israeli government are deplorable and that innocent people on both ‘sides’ are suffering because of it?!

Yes, it is. That’s why it’s perfectly reasonable to ensure that the reprehensible actions of both sides, not just one of them, are mentioned.

Are you being serious? You don't see the news about gaza. All the ppl bring starved and the Israeli government supporters justifying the blockage of aid and food getting in. Do you read or see the news? Their starvation is being justified isn't it.. if it wasn't being justified the uk and the us government would come down hard on the Israeli government but they do not..

I assumed you meant on this thread.

Why do you think Israel is blocking aid?

Ponoka7 · 11/05/2025 09:25

MoiMoiMoiMoi · 11/05/2025 09:06

Hamas was confiscating and selling the aid for high price to fund their war...
Sadly one, who would really want to, could argue that this is not starvation of population but starvation of terrorist organisation funds...
(not agreeing with the blockade, but it's not as simple as baddies vs goodies)

It's the blockades doing the most damage.

Unfortunately because of the USA policies on female reproduction rights. Contraception aid, everywhere is becoming non existent.

Actually I do get to police language when you’re using language to make others look unreasonable.

Yes starvation is wrong. Duh. Which is perhaps why Hamas shouldn’t take aid off its citizens to sell or use that aid as tactics to support their terrorism.

So, for clarity, you’re agreeing with me that the Israeli government’s systematic starvation of the Palestinian population in Gaza is wrong and a war crime?

TheaBrandt1 · 11/05/2025 09:24

What’s extraordinary is that people don’t change. Despite our advancements in technology and education humans fight like this. Always have done. Read your history. Race / cause irrelevant and it happens still. Seems war innate in humans. So depressing.

Remembrance Day rings hollow for me now realising this.

MellowCritic · 11/05/2025 09:23

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 09:19

Most criticism of the Israeli government has been met with cries of anti-semitism. A catch all term which allows them to carry on regardless of international condemnation. The arrogance is breathtaking.
