Things that don’t bother you that seem a big deal to other people

Lighthearted really but I honestly can’t understand why anyone would feel precious about a friend forgetting their birthday. My very best friend has forgot a couple of times and it’s more funny than anything else. But other people seem up in arms about things like this.

Weddings… I couldn’t give a shit if someone couldn’t make my wedding or posted a photo too soon or whatever else. I’m amazed people care about this stuff.

Obviously there’s plenty I’m highly strung about though! 😅

People spelling my name incorrectly. People spelling DD2’s name incorrectly. I mean they’re not doing it on purpose and I just don’t care. My name is a particular pain as there are a number of potential spellings.

The fact that friendships ebb and flow. Some people are very intense!
Children playing and making noise in their own gardens in the daytime.
Footballs coming over the fence
Partners going away for a few night when you’ve got young kids.

leviosaluna · 13/05/2025 01:24

Christmas. I’ve only eaten one Christmas dinner in my life and my work means I’m usually only off for 2 days (I do like Christmas films though!)

shoes on/off - as long as you’re not treading dog shit in, do what you like

answering the door - sometimes it’s my neighbour offering cake, I’m always answering the door Grin

visitors - come in, bring your slippers, rummage in the fridge, I’m not bothered providing you make me a brew. If I’m close enough to you that you’re in my home, treat it like your own

cats sleeping on the bed. Mine sleeps IN the bed spooning me and looks injured if you move him. He’s doing no harm

JulepTulip · 13/05/2025 00:11

People quoting the OP.

Families shopping together in the grocery store.

britinnyc · 13/05/2025 00:02

Going to the office every day
answering the door
kids making noise outside when the weather is nice

TheaBrandt1 · 12/05/2025 23:49

I also don’t mind public speaking or going to places on my own - have friends who get into paroxysms of stress about doing either.

TheaBrandt1 · 12/05/2025 23:47

Dh gets really angry if he thinks someone is patronising him. I genuinely usually don’t even notice and if I do notice I don’t care. Patronise away!

I hate using toilet roll where there is no holder. Period blood, faeces etc can end up on the edge of the sheets, or the cardboard roll etc as you try to grip it whilst unrolling it.

Luckily the two of us don't ever seem to have that problem!

People using my bins - crack on and put your dog crap etc in! I’d rather it was in a bin than on street.
Answering the door or phone when not expecting someone or recognising the number.

Hah! I feel the same ZoeyB - really not bothered about my bin being used for this. i have a friend that rants about the ‘selfish individual’ that deposits dog poo, in a poo bag, in her black bin. Her black bin is at the bottom of her very long driveway. And it really doesn’t take up much space :)

The holders are usually next to the toilet. If you flush without the lid down (and many public toilets don't have a lid) then miniscule particles end up flying everywhere. So the loo roll will be covered anyways.

louderthan · 12/05/2025 18:23

Then again I can’t drive, I make a big fuss about my birthday and I have a toilet brush and bleach, which often upsets people on here.

louderthan · 12/05/2025 18:21

Christmas
Going into the office
Going abroad
Changing bedding every week

Misorchid · 12/05/2025 18:09

Concert/theatre going on my own, travelling solo.
Joining groups where no one knows me, I don’t care.
minimal redecoration in the house, furniture to last a lifetime.
Vaseline/Nivea my only skin cream.
Old car. Drive until it packs in.
No ‘signature’ scent. I’ll wear anything.
Fabric conditioner.

I didn't even know there was a wrong way for toilet roll 😂.
Ours sit on a shelf!

What people wear ( including kids ) who cares ?
Other drivers in wrong lane - just give way and let them - costs just a nano second .
Being talked about - everyone gossips !

TerroristToddler · 12/05/2025 14:42
  • Posting "happy birthday to [XXX]" on social media with a pic collage or something for friends/family birthdays. Just why? If they're close to me I'll be making an effort to see them so wouldn't bother posting on SM.
  • Xmas matching PJs, xmas eve boxes, Elf on a Shelf, overly curated santa visit photos.
  • Buying kids valentines day stuff
  • Valentines day generally (don't see the point at all)
  • Birthdays - we obviously celebrate each others' birthdays but for some people a birthday appears to be a whole weekend of plans and celebrating.
  • Massive hen do's or baby showers or... god forbid... gender reveal parties. It's literally all a social media bragging excuse
  • Getting nails done professionally routinely

@yeahwhatev

Was it a situation where it would have been much easier and quicker if you'd waited at the end of the road for the other driver to come past, rather than attempting to drive down the road and you both ending up in slow and awkward passing manoeuvres?

So many drivers seem to be incapable of appraising the situation. It's normally much quicker and a lot easier to simply sit and wait.

Yes it would have been easier - it was a mistake, not deliberate, and I was responding to the original poster who asked why do people get road rage over such minor (unintentional) mistakes?

ItGhoul · 12/05/2025 11:00

I'm another one in the 'largely unbothered by germs' camp and have just remembered that a while ago I was solidly berated on Mumsnet for being perfectly happy to give and receive oral sex when neither of us has just had a shower.

When people are accidentally driving in the wrong lane, or they accidentally take the wrong exit on a roundabout and so they try to change lane last minute. If they do it safely what’s the big deal?! We are all human and make mistakes. Yet I have known drivers get INFURIATED about it and start badmouthing the driver of the car, or swearing, or giving them angry flares etc I don’t get it.

Or when drivers are merging into a one lane traffic queue , I.e road works appear, or a car has broken down and is blocking a lane, or it is just simply a case of two lanes merging into one, and the car is indicating to join the line of traffic and all the drivers of other cars are moaning about and it and saying, “I’m not bloody letting them in!!” And it is always accompanied with cars driving bumper to bumper to make sure another car can’t join the line of traffic.

It’s so much unnecessary road rage and anger. I just don’t get it.

Liken traffic situations to walking situations and you may get a better understanding of drivers rage. E. g. Your queuing to board a bus or waiting to be served at, say the bank or post office, and someone just walks up and goes in front of you! Implying that their time is more important than yours 😏

Loading dishwasher 'correctly', taking shoes off indoors, bicycles on pavements

My dad's partner gets him to leave the toilet seat lid down, which in turn he starts doing when he comes down here for two days. Now if a guy pees and puts the seat down, that's fine, but I don't really get why the lid needs to go down. I have incontinence issues, so I just leave the lid up as its easier for me if I'm rushing slightly. She also closes the bathroom doors when nobody is in there, again, what's the point of doing that!

Boredlass · 12/05/2025 09:33

I don’t care if my DH wants to see his mother every day. It doesn’t make him a mummy’s boy.

NotOnThsAsosChristmasCardList · 10/05/2025 09:17

Totally this.
Never really lost it with my husband apart from when gets passenger rage of don't let him in he's known the road merges for the last mile sure dude but also I like my car I fancy keeping my bumper I'll let him in no inconvenience to myself and we will all go about our day. Jeees.

Since moving out of London I've noticed this a lot more - suppressed rage of the home counties? Who cares if someone needs to change lane if they indicate and do it safely, why the rage?

I also feel road rage can be laced with misogyny - the other day I didn't stop soon enough to let a car through easily (cars parked both sides of the road), however I DID stop and tuck in and the other car could get through but just had to slow down - our windows were down and he literally shouted at me - 'Just fucking stop!' My 14 year old dd was next to me, it shook me up a bit, and I thought why? It was a really suburban place and tbh I just thought you suburban angry boring twat.
