Things that don’t bother you that seem a big deal to other people

Lighthearted really but I honestly can’t understand why anyone would feel precious about a friend forgetting their birthday. My very best friend has forgot a couple of times and it’s more funny than anything else. But other people seem up in arms about things like this.

Weddings… I couldn’t give a shit if someone couldn’t make my wedding or posted a photo too soon or whatever else. I’m amazed people care about this stuff.

Obviously there’s plenty I’m highly strung about though! 😅

Appreciate this is a bit odd for Mumsnet, but - babies! I am happy for the parents of course but I don't understand why I'm supposed to want to hold them/have a cuddle. I just don't get anything from it and it's obvious that most people do. I felt like that as a teen and presumed it would change but it never did (I know people say it's different with your own but I never took the chance to find out, I didn't want to have children unless I was sure I wanted them)

I have a child and I still am not interested in cuddling other people's babies. Love my child, not a fan of anyone else's.

People cancelling on me. I have hundreds of other things I could be doing so that's fine, I don't see it as a wasted day or night at all

Similarly people being late. I have lots of stuff to be reading while I wait, or just wandering around, people watching etc. No big deal

SunnieShine · 10/05/2025 09:58

Wind chimes - never given me a moment's bother

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 10/05/2025 09:58

Social media, who cares if DH said happy birthday on it?

Having brand new or top of the range anything. Have what works and what makes you happy.

People knowing how successful / rich / happy you are. Just be happy.

Material "stuff".

Clothes - be comfortable and happy if you want, look fabulous if you want.

Honestly, I find it hard to get worked up about much that's "superficial". Live your life, be happy. Don't be a dick to others (that does irritate me!).

Klozza · 10/05/2025 09:58

One year old baby’s birthday partys. Obviously each to their own though

shellyleppard · 10/05/2025 09:57

Toilet roll the wrong waye, people not saying thank you when you hold the door open for them

Honon · 10/05/2025 09:57

My partner having close female friendships.

Giving lifts to adults who can't drive. I just don't mind at all.

PersonalBest · 10/05/2025 09:57

Around 90% of aibu doesn't bother me.

Whitecleanoverneat · 10/05/2025 09:56

Food waste. I'm not wilfilly wasteful, I tend to buy what we need when we need it but I don't eat every sad stump of cucumber and wilted lettuce leaf because 'I can't abide food waste!'

Gahdammit · 10/05/2025 09:56

People putting bagged dog poo in my bin. As long as it's not in the recycling bin, crack on. I'd rather it was in my bin than left on the pavement.

Same. I have no desire to cuddle your baby -_-

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 10/05/2025 09:54

Oh and potholes madden me. I must not be as chilled as I had assumed 😂😂

Very much of the above, except I do hate the toilet seat up in our en-suite.

Thepeopleversuswork · 10/05/2025 09:50

@SelinaPlace

I never regarded the school run as some form of ordeal, and even when I was doing it at an insular village school where no one spoke to me, I still didn’t think everyone was horrible and ‘cliquish’

Completely agree. Two women having a conversation at the school gates constitutes a "clique". I've never understood how people get through life with this sort of attitude.

ScottBakula · 10/05/2025 09:12

I am surprised that none of that bothers you .

I think she’s got it twiddled round the wrong way.

Yes I have always wondered if I was missing something when people are outraged over trans women using the women's toilets.
It's also like the complaints about CCTV in toilets in schools/removing the door to the toilet block. It's not the cubicles the CCTV shows, more the groups that gather by the sinks!

I was talking to my friend about this last week and I said I’ve never been in a toilet to my knowledge with a trans woman. I mean I probably have but my point is, genuine trans women you have difficultly telling they are trans. I have never seen a trans woman so obviously a man in a woman’s toilet and that I would have a problem with but where is this happening so frequently for their to be so much noise?

AlpacaMittens · 10/05/2025 09:48

People putting stuff in my bin. I wouldn't want a stranger's full blown bag of rubbish in my bin, but when it's bin day and they're outside I don't see the problem with passers by putting down a banana peel or a plastic bottle or something in my bin. Many people I know are VERY against this!

faerietales · 10/05/2025 09:48

Dogs in shops and cafes.
People listening to music in their gardens.
People parking outside my house.
DH going away overnight.
Cats going in/out of people's gardens.
People wearing leggings etc. in public.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/05/2025 09:48

Children not wanting to wear a coat in winter- it’s the U.K., they’ll feel cold and learn their lesson. They won’t freeze

LlynTegid · 10/05/2025 09:48

Tradesmen using my toilet or having a cup of tea (no coffee in my house).

SelinaPlace · 10/05/2025 09:47

Not bothered about having my house ‘visitor-ready”

I never regarded the school run as some form of ordeal, and even when I was doing it at an insular village school where no one spoke to me, I still didn’t think everyone was horrible and ‘cliquish’

I answer the door regardless of whether I’m expecting someone or not

I don’t feel my friends owe me a certain level of contact — if they withdraw temporarily, I assume they needed it, and don’t see it as some form of insult

I don’t know when any of my friends’ children’s birthdays are and I’m not bothered whether anyone other than immediate family remembers mine. Same for anniversaries

Thepeopleversuswork · 10/05/2025 09:47

Also...

  • People getting the vapours about other people eating in the office due to the risk of it smelling. The idea that its rude or unseemly to consume food in public (other than in a restaurant) also strikes me as unbearably anal and fastidious. People going on about 'feeling sick' because someone is eating some non offensive food at their desk. Such an overreaction. Fine, I get that microwaved fish is a problem. But some people are so melodramatic about this.

emotional affairs, IMO there’s no such thing. Obviously if you’re going down the talking sex route then that’s one thing, but confiding in someone of the opposite sex does not equal an emotional affair.

Shoes on/off, who cares.

Not being wished happy birthday
The need to go NC over the smallest slight. Just get over it.

Trans people, esp trans women in women’s toilets. There are cubicles, it’s not like you’re exposing yourself to a man.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 10/05/2025 09:45

actually talking to people rather than trying to conduct sensitive conversations by text or note through the door

Birthdays (except for kids)
Mother’s Day
Father’s Day
valentines day
whether my children are invited to weddings
general wedding palava
baby showers
hen dos
opening my front door
constant cleaning
travelling or doing anything solo
kids playing outside or out

although most of these only bother people on MN. Not in real life
