Sick of vile, rude teenagers

DD was learning about VE Day at school and got wine a few of her friends would be going down to the war memorial this afternoon for the remembrance event. She asked if we could go so I said I would walk her there for 20 minutes so she could quietly see what was going on before bedtime (it’s just round the corner).

We arrived but there was a group of about 8 teenagers sat in the middle of the square making an absolute scene of themselves. Shouting obscenities, vaping, running around, showing off to each other and rolling about on the floor. After 10 minutes of this, having seen the exasperation on the faces of some very elderly people who clearly felt too vulnerable to call them out, I went over and told them to stop embarrassing themselves and to go if they were just there to make a scene. Of course they carried on (although a few seemed to back down). They actually looked shocked like they’d never been told off in their lives. They probably hadn’t.

I’m just so sick of it. These types are everywhere. They’re absolute losers who will likely do nothing with their lives and cost us all a fortune. I know it’s not PC to say it but it’s true - I feel like these types are everywhere, bullying people who are unlikely to respond while leeching off the state.

I absolutely accept teenagers act out and fully expect that (in a secretive and limited way), but this was just so disrespectful and it was so disheartening to see yet another event ruined by yobbos.

I expect I’ll be told IABU.

It's disgusting. Mine would never sit down again, behaving like that.

Where do you live? Teens here don’t act like that but I suppose it’s area dependant. There will always be some that are disrespectful.

The area I would say is average or slightly below average.

There was, I will point out, FAR more teens (and even small kids) who were beautifully behaved and taking part as part of the scouts, cadets etc

I really know it’s not all teenagers, and a minority - but sadly a minority is enough to ruin an event like this.

Honestly, there are MANY adults like this round here - and they have to start somewhere don’t they? To be fair my title should’ve said ‘people’.

Interesting that you bemoan the attitudes of teenagers and then say they’re “losers” who will do “nothing” with their lives.

You’re the adult here and to have that attitude is pathetic.

What’s pathetic is turning up to a war memorial event to ruin it in front of some people who looked in their late 90s and probably lost friends if they weren’t directly affected themselves. I don’t even care any more, these types need dealing with.

Wine was supposed to say wind.

Oh, sorry - ignore my comments about alcohol then.

That was an unfortunate typo straight out of the gate given the subject matter. Grin

I think you're making a few assumptions about their ultimate career/life prospects based off a snapshot of a single afternoon. That behaviour isn't confined to just teenagers either (unfortunately).

YANBU, but I don't think taking an alcoholic drink to the memorial was appropriate on your daughter's behalf; she may be part of the problem (assuming she is a teen if she drinks wine).

I very rarely come across vile or rude teens and I don’t think it’s right to tar them all with the same brush. It must be area dependent as the vast majority of DD’s peers are all genuinely very nice and respectful!
