To buy a trampoline as a childless adult

I have recently bought my first house... always loved trampolines as a child. Have seen someone advertising a secondhand trampoline on Facebook at a good price. WIBU to buy one and put it in my garden? I'm single and don't have any kids. My next door neighbours are a retired couple and I'm worried they would judge me bouncing in the next garden over!

Get the trampoline!! Stuff what your neighbours do or don't think. If you get bored of it after summer, then just sell it on ☺️

SueSuddio · 08/05/2025 22:34

Definitely. It'd be quite fun to spot one of my neighbours having a bounce on a trampoline with some abandon.

This reminds me of when DH and I saw two nuns in a play park on the swings.

Jennifershuffles · 08/05/2025 22:07

Do it! You can always sell it on again if you get sick of it

Do what the fuck you want my darling

Possibly my favourite ever post on MN. And I’ve been here years!

BookArt55 · 08/05/2025 21:58

Please do it! Who cares what anyone thinks. I hope you enjoy your Trampoline, live is too short to not enjoy yourself.

Go for it

I’d get one dug into the ground rather than a crappy kids one on a squeaky metal frame!

I’m a middle aged woman with no children - there are lots of us in my road. If you were my neighbour I’d be asking if I could have a go.

Ooh, could be quite a lucrative sideline - with adult neighbours all queuing up for 15 minutes' bouncing for a fiver.

You'd have to start spreading rumours about yourself being the local drug dealer or something, though, as a cover story to avoid embarrassing any of your customers getting their guilty childlike pleasures!!

Have you been on one since being a kid? I’d maybe see if you enjoy it as much as a grown up. Sometimes I have a go with the kids and it’s really not fun anymore!

Very true!! We got one when the kids were small and I was telling them all how good I used to be. Holy moly I did seat drop and jarred my back and neck so badly. Never again!

OP if you want one go for it. Don't worry about your neighbours. Just tell them it's for fitness. Just be careful doing anything fancy lol.

Mrsttcno1 · 08/05/2025 21:19

Do it and enjoy it!!

I used to love trampolines when I was little, currently pregnant with my second child after having my pelvic floor destroyed by my daughter and I couldn’t do 3 bounces without pissing myself now😂 bounce and enjoy!!

Seventree · 08/05/2025 21:17

Do it! I love going to trampoline parks with my kids, it's so much fun.

I can just imagine the post in a few months time:

“My next door neighbour has bought a trampoline and keeps peering into our garden and waving to us over the fence. We have been saving our whole life to enjoy our retirement and just want a few peaceful hours in the garden. All we can hear is the bounce of rusty springs, and shouts of ‘weeeeeeee’! We are not sure if the latter is an exclamation of excitement or her vocally expressing the product of the resulting impact on her pelvic floor muscle. How can we get her to stop? Should we speak to her or post her some tena lady?”

What about your pelvic floor?

With no kids she’ll have a pelvic floor as well sprung as a trampoline.

OfDragonsDeep · 08/05/2025 21:09

Yes! I go to a class once a week and love it (our garden is too sloped 😡)

loulouljh · 08/05/2025 21:08

If anyone asks you have one for your visiting nieces and nephews...

Octavia64 · 08/05/2025 21:08

Honestly we got one for the kids and I had so much fun.

do it

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 08/05/2025 21:07

Adults are allowed those little low fitness bouncers, but NOT a standard big trampoline.

Not really... you do whatever floats your goat!! You're not hurting anybody! Some places hold adult bouncy castle sessions, so a trampoline is terribly mature and sedate by comparison Grin

HangingOver · 08/05/2025 21:06

I pole dance in my garden. Do it.

Alltheoldpaintings · 08/05/2025 21:03

You’re childfree, so can basically do whatever you want! Enjoy it!

If you’re worried about the judgment, just say your doctor recommended it for an old injury, nobody can criticise you then :)

Sauvin · 08/05/2025 20:57

Chazbots · 08/05/2025 20:37

I did just that.

It was great fun and I used it as a garden table, once the novelty wore off. Dead good exercise!

ByeByeByeee · 08/05/2025 20:37

Oh go for it!

I used to love that urban rebounding thing at the gym and I've had 2 kids and didn't even wet myself, so think your pelvic floor will.be grand! Do your kegals though!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 08/05/2025 20:36

Yanbu! Have fun 🙌

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 08/05/2025 16:55
