AIBU being against my neighbor having a party on the same day as my DC’s?

its my DC’s first birthday and I sent out invitations a month ago. I also invited my neighbor.
i will have a few babies over and about 12 adults.

A couple of days ago my neighbor told me she’s planning on having a party in her garden (that’s over the hedge from mine), with a big bbq and about 20-25 adults. They will be outside from the morning until the night, alcohol obviously involved.

I am concerned about the noise and the smoke overstimulating the children and basically ruining my party.
AIBU for thinking that it’s a very inconsiderate thing to do and asking her to change the date of her party?

If you invited her to your party a month ago, did she ever reply? Was her telling you about her party her way of saying she wouldn't be attending yours? Did she counter your invitation with one to hers?

I don't think you can ask her to change the date of her party (and I don't think she would accommodate you if you tried) but I can understand why you would feel bothered by this given the noise and the smoke from the bbq and the tight space. Do what you can to make your party as enjoyable as possible--maybe by shifting it into the morning, before nap time, etc, or take it to a park instead.

You can ask her, if you don’t mind looking completely batshit!

socks1107 · 07/05/2025 18:09

😂. Why on earth can she can not have a party n her own garden?

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 07/05/2025 18:09

Oh christ, you're one of those people. No, you can't expect anyone to move their arrangements to suit you. No, the world doesn't revolve around you. Yes, you are being totally unreasonable.

Missey85 · 07/05/2025 18:07

You can't stop them having a party in the yard as much as they can't stop you from having one

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 07/05/2025 18:05

No way can you dictate what she does. Imagine it’s a carnival and the whole street are joyously celebrating!

Yerdug · 07/05/2025 18:04

Welp, her party sounds more fun than yours. So, why don't you ditch all those whiney kids and boring guests and go get shitfaced next door?

Julimia · 07/05/2025 18:03

Do you own your neighbour's house too??

Boromirsgreyhound · 07/05/2025 18:00

Is this click bait? You do realise the world doesn’t revolve around you and your child don’t you? Of course YABU.

Newusername3kidss · 07/05/2025 17:58

Ha ha precious first born on steroids here. Hilarious. Of course you’re being unreasonable for worrying that your party could be at the same time as hers. So ridiculous. Also - sorry to burst your bubble but you do know your baby won’t have a clue what’s going on.

Numberfish · 07/05/2025 17:54

What have I just read? 😂 Can you IMAGINE what OP is like in her close proximity life if she genuinely thinks she just has to say the word and her NEIGHBOURS will cancel their party of 20-25 adults…in case they ‘overstimulate’ her child from a different garden.?! W T A F?! Change YOUR party, chick and apologise to everyone who knows you.

Justforthisoneithink · 07/05/2025 17:53

Wow, yabvu

BruFord · 07/05/2025 17:48

I think having an all-day party from early morning to evening is abit unneighborly, tbh. But you can't do anything about it so just crack on with your own celebration.

UpJacksArseAndRoundTheCorner · 07/05/2025 17:46

Funny OP! 🤣🤣🤣

SharpTiger · 07/05/2025 17:46

Annnnd that's enough Internet for the day.

Livpool · 07/05/2025 17:39

You are being ridiculous

Londonrach1 · 07/05/2025 17:36

Lol...you obviously joking . No one can be this controlling can they. Yabu.

AgnesX · 07/05/2025 17:34

Overstimulated...um 😳

YABU.

scotstars · 07/05/2025 17:30

Unless communal garden YABVU. Should the whole street stay indoors so as not to ruin your party if you want a private venue you should book 1

Bestfadeplans · 07/05/2025 17:28

Lmao person wants to have a party in their own home and garden. Stop the press.

FYI the only people who care about a 1 year olds bday are their parents.

Missanimosity · 07/05/2025 17:26

The neighbour: "neighbour has party with 12 kids, I am sure there will be lots of screaming kids, can I ask her to move her party elsewere?- No, you can't do that, but make your own party so you don't hear the screaming kids! -Great ideea!" The end!

PoopingAllTheWay · 07/05/2025 17:25

Im sure the neighbours party wont start ‘In the Morning’

ALJT · 07/05/2025 17:20

What are you expecting to be able to do about this realistically?

Apollo365 · 07/05/2025 17:19

🤣

blueboocat · 07/05/2025 16:57

This is a really strange post. Must be a wind up, or reverse. Incase it’s neither, yes OP, you are being unreasonable.
