Beckhams

Am I unreasonable to feel sorry for Victoria and David beckham over the so called ‘rift’ with their son, which Victoria says is her worst nightmare. I know from experience how this situation can get out of hand and how heartbreaking it is when a beloved child breaks contact with their parents .

naturally the media is blaming the woman!

There's an episode of The Rest is Entertainment about this. It's an interesting listen. They make some good points about the family being a commodity.

nahthatsnotforme · 15/05/2025 13:50

I have no sympathy for Brooklyn. He may have grown up in the public eye but not so much when he was young, more since he’s been able to say ‘no I don’t want that’. He’s taken every luxury offered to him, when he could’ve said no… I want something different.
Any decent parent would be heartbroken to have a rift with their child; to have it played out in public even worse.

absolutely agree with what you’ve said.

Hasn't one of Jamie Oliver's daughters started a nursing course? So it is possible. Not quite the same level of fame but still...

It doesn't even have to be an either/or vs famous footballer or working behind the check out at aldi.

There are plenty of jobs that are still glamorous and well paying where its massively helpful to have rich/famous parents give you a leg up but where you don't need massive/innate talent. But it does involve putting a bit of work in !

E.g. Brooklyns "photography" career -if he'd actually finished the degree at the prestigious uni hisparents paid for him to get into and then apprenticed to a photographer for a few years to learn the craft he still would have benefited from a massive advantage but fewer people would have begrudged him eventually building a successful career. But dropping out of a uni other people would have loved to get the chance to attend and publishing a book of shit outlines of an elephant's shadow was never going to lead to credibility. And then instead of taking it on the chin, learning from it and getting better he chucked in that "passion" and decided he was going to be a chef - but did exactly the same again. No culinary school or hard sweat working your way up in restaurants, just straight into videos on insta showing people how to make a sandwich 🤣
No wonder people laugh at him

You'd think with all the media savvy the beckhams have they'd know how this would come across.

Same with romeo - he was fairly good at football and could probably have carved out a career in low league teams or coaching or something. But because he wasn't good enough to be AS famous as his dad he's chucked that in and started "modelling". Which again will probably go nowhere because he's OK looking but nothing special and in a field that competitive just being a nepo baby isn't enough.

Basically they could get good jobs in pretty much any field they wanted much easier than 99.99% of other people- but it seems like unless they can instantly be a list stars, its not worth it.

Yet here you are on this thread lecturing. Interesting. Personally if I have no interest in a topic I just scroll on by.

Exactly. The fact that poster gets their kicks from going into a thread they have no interest in and telling the people on it that they are of superior intelligence to the rest of us just makes them look a dick to be honest.

YANBU Brocklyn would do well to remember that women come and go in life but you only get one dad.

Imagine not turning up for a single one of his dads parties. His wife must really hate that family.

Yeah its pretty terrible not to turn up to ANY of them.
It's not even like he can pretend he has work.

Whatever anyone wants to say about savid and Victoria (mostly David's 🧐) behaviour.
They clearly love their kids and have been pretty devoted parents.

As they appear to often holiday together that does suggest a reasonably close friendhip?

Usually Godparents know the parents very well I might be missing something but were they super close back in 1997-99 with a well established relationship? The friendship evolved possibly in part because Elton & David had been honoured with the role? More admirable to pick close friends & relatives?

It’s socially ambitious but understandable perhaps to pick the wealthiest most influential you know re: Godparents (?) Many do it now albeit on a different scale…

It’s a bit akin to Meghan & H having A listers & celebs to the wedding they’d never met NB: Clooneys re: future & hopeful networking.

Bournlucky · 15/05/2025 13:20

It’s sad but I’ve seen this happen twice and both times it was to do with overbearing, ‘close’, controlling families.

You know the type - we’re so close we do everything together.

This dynamic can work with certain in laws who want to be subsumed by this ‘happy’ family but those that pull against it often fall out with the family.

I think when lots of money & unusually strong work ethic combine some are then hugely socially ambitious re: children. I thought it odd that Elton John /David F were chosen as a Godparents, my friends would have laughed, how can they have known them well enough?

Victoria has done very well with her fashion business & it has evolved well. I’d not have had the confidence without the industry grounding.

Okay, so I have too much time on my hands at the moment and need a distraction from my own shitty life.

I read that One of the other sons is currently engaged to Brooklyns ex girlfriend and that’s why Brooklyn and his wife won’t go any events they are at and it’s caused a rift.

Except apparently she's not his ex but his mate Rocco Richie's

So who knows?

I feel a bit sorry for the kids because they have a father who was a very good footballer and also very good-looking, who seems to be good socially. Their mother is normal; not talented at anything except maintaining her figure and beauty regimes.
As is often the way, the football and looks genes haven't been passed on, but the Beckhams have made so much money that it feels inconceivable that their children could just get bog standard jobs like many Brits eg. Warehouse worker, driver, shop worker, office admin staff.
If the Beckham kids hadn't been spoilt and plastered all over the media since birth, Brooklyn could have a nice 8-4 working for the council. He'd have friends, be more-or-less content most of the time and everyone would think it's ace that his parents are the Beckhams.
Admittedly he would inherit a huge amount of money aged 60-odd, but by then he would know the value of money.

I don’t believe any of what I read but I still have my own thoughts about it. For all we know there may be no estrangement whatsoever. Who knows.

There are things to be curious about such as nature, the universe, existentialism, wars, etc.
The ins and out the day to day life of a girl from a small hertfordshire town and her essex husband and nepo kids are something intelligent humans give a shit about

If only you had a time machine you could go back and advise Jane Austen not to write that silly book because nobody will ever be interested in it.

ERthree · 15/05/2025 12:18

Maybe Brooklyn has finally found freedom. I think the Beckhams love their children but smother them. The way Victoria used to drape herself over Brooklyn was not normal.

I think where there is obvious leaking of stories, I wouldn’t believe any of it.

I think there’s truth in texts & the fired wedding planners etc. My parents had little to do with wedding planning, possibly with great wealth comes expectations of great control & that’s part of the problem (?)

Romeo. I think they are heading towards trying to facilitate the daughter, Harper to become a fashion designer /"influencer" etc in the future by the comments I've read. She is currently only 13.
Their kids aren't very talented at anything because they've never had to work at anything or the chances to find out what they are good at, naturally. DB was a good footballer but VB can't really sing and just got lucky with the Spice Girls. Her fashion designs are also dreadful.

I don’t think that’s fair on her designs, some of her dresses & suits are fab. Whilst didn’t learn craft I think she’s disciplined & hardworking.

Nobody knows what's going on behind closed doors though. Just look at all of estranged families and grown ups in therapy. He may have his own demons, just because they're famous doesn't mean low cannot cannot happen; no smoke without fire. There is two sides to every story. I can only imagine everything being even more heightened in the public eye, and being in it from a young age.

Isn't 1 son a footballer/model?

if you can call him a footballer ,he first played for the LA team his Dad part owned and then was on a transfer to Brentford( I think ) B team .

Don't have any time for Beckhams..I dislike how they made their children into a brand. They should have done their utmost to give them a normal childhood. Now the kids are ridiculed.

Agree with this they were never alllowed to just be themselves they have always had to be pushed into something
And non of them appear to have any real.talent which is fine why can't they just be ordinary?

I thought that story was quite bizarre.

It was bizarre.

I did like the VB outfit on Kate though, it really suited her. The trousers were a bit too long but that seems to be a very in look at the moment. Meghan wore a suit recently with even longer trousers.

JSMill · 15/05/2025 11:16

Yougottolaugh · 15/05/2025 09:06

Why are the royals being pulled into the Beckham media reports? First Kate wears a VB suit and now apparently Brooklyn and Nicola have attended a dinner party held by Harry and Meghan. It just gets more bizarre

As someone no contact with my own mother I genuinely think people need to see both sides. If a child goes no contact with a parent there is usually a very very good reason for it and blaming the wife seems to be a cop out. That said I know nothing about the beckhams at all so no idea what the rift is all about. I do know that my going NC with my mother has been classed as a 'feud' between me and her when it is anything but, it is me putting in boundaries later in life against the abuse I have always been on the receiving end of but people never really see that parents can be at fault.

This. My MIL blames me but I take the rap for my DH wanting to be NC as that’s the only way he could do it. I’m sure they’ve told everyone what an evil bitch I am. Have no interest in meeting our child though/don’t refer to me as their mother etc
