Beckhams

Am I unreasonable to feel sorry for Victoria and David beckham over the so called ‘rift’ with their son, which Victoria says is her worst nightmare. I know from experience how this situation can get out of hand and how heartbreaking it is when a beloved child breaks contact with their parents .

naturally the media is blaming the woman!

Like Brooklyns “photography career”? Or his “chef career”? Didn’t he become a mixologist at one point too? 😂 the kid will always be a joke. He’s like a 6 year old that suddenly decides they’re a fireman. He’s too lazy/stupid to actually get the qualifications so he’ll never be taken seriously. I have more respect for his brother - Romeo has at least stuck to football and actually trained to be a footballer rather than just deciding he is one. The other kids don’t appear to have the same cluelessness as Brooklyn

True, but does he have Romeo’s confidence & self assurance?

Yes agreed, I made the point that we don’t know how intelligent they are. And I also agree that they have the huge advantage of being able to study towards whatever qualifications they need without worrying about paying the bills whilst just hanging around in whatever milieu they choose and eventually getting quite far in their chosen field.

But I still think that in certain industries, no matter how long you stick around and how much money you have, if you don’t have the requisite skill set you won’t be able to make it. Or you give the illusion of having made it as a successful designer, art critic or whatever but you will not be respected by your peers and risk becoming a laughing stock.

I think part of the Beckham's problem was that they have given Brooklyn at least as many chances as their considerable wealth could provide to shine, too much "help" based on not enough real ability or talent at anything and not letting him sink or swim/find his own level before moving on to the next, new thing. Richard Branson made it clear his kids were not going to get "legs up". I couldn't name them, don't think most could. They haven't had to fail in the public eye. Brooklyn is not as handsome or obviously talented as his father and the expectations to somehow catch up, with something seem to have been there, however loving the intent.

One thing Brooklyn has done is marry a billionaires daughter. This is now his "brand" for good or ill and while I'm sure Victoria and David really do love him, he's in a corner, rather. Hopefully, he will find a way to do more productive things and sort it out with them.

All spot on, he does seem to be a stable character too, no obviously wild days, drug binges.

IME tough being son of a more alpha, very successful father & doubly tough when as famous as Beckham I am sure & in public ete.

Eastie77Returns · 15/05/2025 19:57

Bill Gates has made it very clear that his children will be left 1% of his fortune as 99% is going to charity. I mean they will still inherit an enormous amount of money but I don’t think it’s an accident that they mainly keep a fairly low profile, hold degrees/PHDs and work in Medical and Humanitarian fields. Keeping your DC out of the limelight when you have a high profile seems to go a long way to keeping them grounded and actually leading purposeful lives.

Must admit I’d be constantly worried about being kidnapped if my dad was one of the richest men in the world!

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/05/2025 14:50

Is there even a rift? Has anyone in the family actually commented on any of this? Maybe there is a reason why Brooklyn didn't go.

Exactly. It’s all entirely tabloid speculation at the moment. The press is trying to create another Harry and Meghan scenario to sell to those who don’t care about royalty. The reality is probably very different. With Harry and Meghan, whether you believe what they say in the press or not, we do at least know the feud exists, even if “recollections may vary”. We know nothing with the Beckhams.

VB doesn’t have fashion designer experience but collabs with those that do & has savvy. She’s won respect. Lots of cash & buy a business for them in area of interest.

**Emma Grede will openly say her skill was £ on excellent hires & she dropped out of college. Why can’t Brooklyn run a photography business?

**Emma is impressive & easy to respect.

FartfulCodger · 15/05/2025 18:17

I kinda like Brooklyn. He seems like a nice (but dim) guy. His wife looks very sullen and I get the impression he is more into her than she is him.
I’ve always quite liked Victoria. The constant posing is a bit embarrassing but she seems like quite a fun person.
David seems like a gigantic wanker. I don’t think you need to feel that sorry for him.
Pushing their kids into the limelight just highlights how talentless they are. I feel a bit sorry for them because they haven’t really had a choice. But I don’t think it’s necessarily been them most functional household to grow up in, what with the multiple affairs (David), the disordered eating (Victoria), while constantly trying to show the world how perfect and amazing everything is.

But they may have the requisite skills, talent etc — we don’t know that we don’t, do we? I don’t even mean the Beckham children specifically, just that children in their position literally have the world at their feet when it comes to gaining expensive qualifications, following a professional passion, not needing to worry about stretching income between gigs etc. And, to be honest, the ability to hang on, and not have a ‘day job’ to pay the bills, will get you a long way in some fields.

Is it the classic second gen wealth & wanting it all ‘now’ too? Paul McCartney notoriously tough on kids, state school etc, Gordon Ramsay too.

Parsons was on incredible opportunity for Brooklyn & with stickability & mentorship he might have made it. Own business, good hires. VB has made fashion work despite not learning trade.

Why not set up business for kids in areas of interest & hire super capable support paying very well?

But those niche, interesting jobs are still very competitive and require genuine passion and intelligence to progress. The Beckham kids could get a leg up into those jobs because of their wealth etc but once in position they would have to prove their worth and all the money in the world could not conceal the fact that they were intellectually or artistically lacking if that was the case. Obviously I don’t know how intelligent they are but just making the point that even hugely famous and influential parents can only get you so far. They tried their level best to support Brooklyn’s career as a photographer including hosting an evening for his book lauch where all their famous friends attended and played the Emperor’s Clothes by pretending his heap of shit photos were brilliant but it didn’t help.

The Queen’s nephew made it as a furniture maker because he is connected to royal family AND happens to be very good at what he does. I don’t think even the most ardent fans of his aunt would have been persuaded to shell out for his wares if it was crap.

They don’t have to get ‘bog standard’ jobs, though. They have the immense luxury of being able to afford the best education money can buy, to study absolutely anything, anywhere in the world, and to choose, if they wanted, ill-paid or insecure but enormously interesting and difficult to get into jobs where you need to be able to support yourself though multiple unpaid internships or similar to get your foot in the door, or live from project to project. If a Beckham child wanted to study art at the Courtauld and Florence and then train as a paper restaurator or open a Mayfair gallery or specialise in jewels for Sothebys, they could, or buy an estate and rewild it and open a centre for habitat conservation, or run it as an animal sanctuary, or direct operas.

Maybe he isnt as willing to forgive his dad as victoria was . 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think this might be the case, it’s something Tom Bower possibly hints at, Glasto events, but also the suggestion was anything like this behaviour long in past.

Brooklyn and Harry are cut from the same cloth.

Two men punching above their weight. They are both fannystuck and not thinking things through.

Even in a thread about the Beckham's posters find a way to.shoe horn H&M into it 🙄

I would always assume that if an adult has decided to not spend time with their parents, it’s probably the parents fault.

The Beckhams have good PR but I really don’t think they’d be easy people to live with, their decision to push their dcs towards fame (particularly of the sort that feeds the family brand) is obvious and possibly hard to live with.

Brentford still ok :) Not bad. Then football PR/coaching, football merch etc.

The B team and I don't think he was played much or scored any goals.

@User14March if you don't understand the sheer talent and genius of Beckham as a footballer then you are not really able to comment on anything football.

Absolutely fair enough.
