Indian nationals being cheaper to hire in the UK? Not paying NI contributions? What is the massive gain we get from this? As a life-long Labour voter this is just another policy that makes me want to cry. He just doesn’t get it, does he?

Britain benefits largely from this, it also helps British workers in India. You’ve obviously read the daily hate mail and not bothered to research the fine print.

Thats actually really good to hear. I fucking loathe Labour at the moment but I’m behind anything that expands the UK’s exports.

Yes this is the other side of the deal nobody here is talking about. The tariff cuts on lots of uk goods which will improve the export market to India and supposedly increase the uk economy by 4.8billion a year.

all those uk companies who are able to increase their amount of exported goods will need more uk staff.

obviously if India are cutting tariffs they do expect something in return. The clue is in the name of trade negotiations. The uk won’t get everything their own way.

any Indian nationals who come here not having to pay NI will still if employed by an Indian company be having the Indian version of NI paid to India by the company. Just means the company won’t be paying twice. No idea what happens if an Indian national is paid by a uk company. However they will still need a work visa. There’s no change to the visa requirement.

I’m a Conservative/ Brexit voter and have no problem with this policy. I’m actually beginning to wonder if Starmer is a Tory in disguise. He seems to do good things regardless of his politics.

Young, healthy workers don't tend to use the NHS much. Many may not use it at all.

There is a reason India has a population of 1.4 billion people. They have kids. Loads of kids. Kids and pregnant women use the NHS a lot.
Even if the NHS can back charge India for any care, it’s more people through the door adding pressure on the NHS resources.

Ohthatsabitshit · 07/05/2025 07:11

I think India is much bigger player than pps seem to understand.

Leafy3 · 07/05/2025 07:04

The deal had been in the making for 3 years, which means the Tories are probably responsible for it's terms and all Starmer has done is take it over the line

cardibach · 06/05/2025 20:58

It’s for Indian employees of Indian firms seconded to the U.K. Doesn’t affect U.K. employment at all.

Posted workers? I remember on of the problems with the EU posted worker scheme was people could be paid minimum wage of the country they came from so in theory a posted worker could be paid like 50p an hour. As long as minimum wage laws apply and theres no exploitation and we get good trade access for it then it may actually be a net benefit.

Do any of you watch the news?
USA have put a 25% tariff on cars exported from UK
this deal reduces the tariffs on the export of our high end cars to India from 100% to 10%

This will be another thread with with a faux naive opening post & a disappearing OP!

HereForTheFreeLunch · 07/05/2025 07:00

On the NHS thing , I'm not sure but I think they need to have private medical paid for by the employer.
In any case I imagine they mostly get treated back in India as a GP appointment on the NHS is like gold dust and any specialist appointment is a 12 month wait.

But Starmer can't say that.

HellsBalls · 07/05/2025 07:00

Simonjt · 06/05/2025 23:18

About 300,000 permanent citizens in India, however temporary workers are recorded differently. I have quite a few colleagues who did six month stints in India, they aren’t part of the yearly resident figure in the same was as they’re essentially extended guests.

The vast majority are Indians who came to the UK, gained citizenship here, then went back to work or retire in India.

User37482 · 07/05/2025 07:00

I’m waiting to see what the deal is, I assume the UK will get some sort of benefit. Tbh though even if these are posted workers I don’t see it as helpful for British workers unless it results in billions in the UK coffers.

Oh they would, the world is full of the gullible and naïve, Reform voters, according to you, vote the way they do to spite people who different views.

Fascinate the fools, then silence the intelligent.... as someone far more intelligent than you once said.

You've proved this over more than a few posts.

Glad you’re paying attention. You might learn something.

You perfectly illustrate why Reform won so many council seats last week. Accusing people who disagree with you as being far right just pushes them to Reform.
The smug attitude of personal intellectual superiority reflects the attitude of Labour and is incredibly off putting. If people don't think like you do then they are automatically wrong.
Keep on going though cos it just guarantees a Reform government

After I was accused of being a Reform supporter by someone who disagreed with me. Ironic eh?

HellsBalls · 07/05/2025 06:54

This is a disaster for IT workers. What it has done is lower the day rate of the outsourcing companies by 20%.
UK companies will use this to hold salaries down, and it’s just made outsourcing your IT to India much more viable for smaller companies.
Combined with the ‘miracle’ of AI, it will massively reduce entry points into IT.

Labour - 0
Reform - 1

Because he knows his supporters are all uneducated idiots who won’t bother looking for actual facts. Farage knows exactly what checks doing and who he’s manipulating.

There is an element of fool my once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me with people still voting for parties led by Farage.

lavenderlou · 07/05/2025 06:51

There's no point trying to explain facts to people who have got themselves all worked up about the idea of Indians coming over here. As PP have posted, we have these arrangements with Canada, Japan, USA, NZ and others. Why all the drama about India?

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 07/05/2025 06:50

Yes I think there will be a Deform government in the not too distant future

And what an absolute pig's ear they will make of everything.

Labour are making some really dumb decisions rn so I think the dissatisfaction will rise especially if they don't pander to the hysterics in the Reform camp.

twistyizzy · 07/05/2025 06:47

CamillaMacauley · 07/05/2025 06:30

You sound like a racist reform voter to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Are you a Farage supporter. ?

Yep, Brexit, which wouldn't have happened with Farage and his ilk, has caused the recent mass migration that has placed huge strain on public services and housing here.

Prior to Brexit, EU workers came here, usually without family dependents, now we accept in parents, children, spouses, often at a rate of 2 or even 3 to 1 for the worker we need.

Indeed.

Alexandra2001 · 07/05/2025 06:40

spoonbillstretford · 07/05/2025 06:36

What Labour policy? The Conservative goverment opened up and increased immigration massively to the rest of the world in 2021 after we lost so many workers from the rest of Europe in 2019 onwards due to leaving the EU.

A policy that was promoted for years by Reform and UKIP.

Why don't you even mention the policy or
provide a link? @sideeyes

Where as I see this as increasing job opportunities for the working class white people as well 👍🏻. Take Scunthorpe for example. Yes I know Tata are no longer there but when they were I’m sure some senior people there may have been Indian nationals but the people on the steelwork floor were uk nationals. Middle managers were uk nationals. Having these deals increases jobs.

to me the people who are against this are the Reform voters with an attitude of “keep the foreigners out”.

And again, yes we know this, because you and I have a good understanding and we have bothered to look into the detail, as well as having a level of comprehension that means we can understand a complex issue like this.

Plenty of people will not have that level of comprehension. It’s not wilful. That doesn’t make them anti foreigner. It could well push them to vote reform though.

Alexandra2001 · 07/05/2025 06:36

Keirawr · 07/05/2025 06:27

@Keirawr nothing about this deal shouts “mass immigration of low skilled Indian workers “ like your previous comment said.

Thats real fear mongering on your part. In fact I take back my comment that you sound like a reform voter. Actually think you’re more ukip/tommy Robinson fangirl
