Indian nationals being cheaper to hire in the UK? Not paying NI contributions? What is the massive gain we get from this? As a life-long Labour voter this is just another policy that makes me want to cry. He just doesn’t get it, does he?

How is it more people through the door? They haven't introduced free movement and they haven't relaxed the visa rules, they have merely introduced reciprocal arrangements with regards to NI for Indian staff working on short term secondments with Indian companies.

Dependents will also pay the NHS surcharge. And for the record, modern Indian women really don't have "loads of kids". The average is 2. But feel free to carry on with your scaremongering.

Also people aren’t eligible for an Indians young professional visa if they have dependent children.

They won’t be getting private anything.
Relocating is as expensive as you make it.

Hire thousands, bring them over, house in caravans, Bob’s your uncle.

We have this deal with 17 other countries. Are they all doing this? Where is your evidence that this sort of deal causes thousands of cheap workers to he brought in to do jobs which would have gone to British people? Where are the huge caravan parks of south koreans working as “temporary contract” builders?

Catsandcheese · 07/05/2025 07:56

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 07/05/2025 07:51

They will be seconded. Temporary, no NI contributions.

The same as currently we are noticing all the construction workers from Korea and Chile and New Zealand?
Interesting

They will still need visas, and they will still need to meet the visa requirements. Can you provide a link which outlines how the visa requirements are going to be reduced?

It’s a con to allow more unchecked immigration.

Why employ locals eh? Just set up a company with Indian domain and hire people from abroad, dodge the tax due, undercut local wages. Robert’s your dad’s brother.

Just watch, it won’t be genuine capital flowing into the country as a result of this bogus trade deal. It’ll be bogus foreign companies, bringing in low skilled labour, paying them even less than local labour costs, piling more pressure into public services through arrivals of extended families, low paid migrant labour is not net contributing.

Higher immigration, lower tax receipts, lower GDP per capita, more people using public services they don’t earn enough to pay for.

What an absolute disaster and a fraud.

We have the same deal with 17(?) other countries. Is that what happens already them? Can you show the evidence of companies already doing this?

How are these thousands of nmw Indian workers getting a uk work visa?

They will be seconded. Temporary, no NI contributions.

How are these thousands of nmw Indian workers getting a uk work visa?

How are they planning to get round the minimum income requirements to get visas for all of these nmw workers from India? I wasn't aware that a relaxation of visa rules was part of the deal? Please could you provide a link with further info?

Sorry, misread your post. I see that you're making the same point! Ignore me!

This FTA has adds about 0.1% to GDP over many years, its tiny and so will its affects on our lives... even the tariffs on whiskey will reman at 75% for 5 to10 years...

The bigger deal is a far better deal with the EU.. Brexit cost 4% of GDP..... but will Starmer be brave enough for that?

There is a reason India has a population of 1.4 billion people. They have kids. Loads of kids. Kids and pregnant women use the NHS a lot.
Even if the NHS can back charge India for any care, it’s more people through the door adding pressure on the NHS resources.

I understand this but that is one of his major weaknesses: he has no idea how to communicate to the audience. He also doesn’t seem to stand for anything. I really do think he’s a waste of a Labour PM.

This is the problem for Labour.
The sort of leader its supporters want, won’t get elected.
The sort of leader to get them elected is not supported by its core.

Yes I guess that is a possibility, but relocating employees is an expensive business, so this imaginary Indian company would have to already be doing very well to afford to bring their entire construction workforce over here to take jobs that would otherwise go to minimum wage folks here.
Plus the private healthcare and schooling.
Seems unlikely.

It is the sneering ‘only thickos could vote for Reform/brexit/anything I disagree with’ attitude. It doesn’t win people over and makes you sound narrow minded and intolerant.

I only said that because I was accused sneeringly of being a Reform voter first. Feel free to go and tell that poster off for her intolerance.

I was just trying to defend myself as I genuinely can’t understand how someone who is supportive of a trade deal with India is accused of being a Reform voter first b

It seems to me from reading this thread that a lot of people don't understand how global many companies are and how many employees of these companies relocate for jobs across the world.
These opportunities come with packages providing private healthcare and private school for their children.
The companies will rent high end housing for the duration.
This will literally have no effect on Joe Bloggs getting a GP appointment or cost this country money.
The deal with India has just made it easier for Indian employees to come here for 3 years, and vice versa.
Our company is growing enormously in India and I imagine there will be many opportunities coming out of this.
In addition a great boost for the economy with the reduction in tariffs.

Double post!

That’s one option.

The other would be for an Indian company to hire construction workers and ship then here where there will be cheaper to use with no private health perks.

I know which option is the most likely one.

After she’d insulted me calling me a reform supporter, etc. yes I may have risen to her insults but I’m only human. I didn’t start it at all. She called me a hysterical Farage foot soldier 🙈😂. That’s a pretty big insult! Especially when I’m the opposite to Farage on the political spectrum

😂. You think you’re so witty. I saw that exact same insult on another thread yesterday. Was that you too, is that your stock insult when you disagree with someone? Or are you copying someone else? Oh dear.

Most people on here happily discuss opposing views without flinging insults and being so rude. But you came right out the gate being nasty. You should really reflect on that. Are you this horrible to people in real life?

Britain benefits largely from this, it also helps British workers in India. You’ve obviously read the daily hate mail and not bothered to research the fine print.

Which British workers in India? All the travel to India that I know about is managers doing couple of weeks per year seeing the offshore teams.

The deal had been in the making for 3 years, which means the Tories are probably responsible for it's terms and all Starmer has done is take it over the line

Has he no agency then?
