Why do people still keep creating more people what's that about

I mean I know it's not as bad as the before indoor plumbing times but we can't assume that will last long

I don't understand the impulse to make another soul experience this world

I think women have that drive a lot more than men. Are you saying nothing would make people stop having kids? Like if WW3 started, or the earth became a hellscape. Wouldn't it be immoral to have kids in those conditions?

Nope, the drive to make children is imperative in both sexes - it's literally the biological reason for the sex drive so you could argue it is stronger in some men - but the drive to nurture the babies is far stronger in women however as men can impregnate thousands of women and women can only have a limited number of children.

Ethopia, 1980s, starvation was rife, mothers were lying there with flies crawling over their emaciated bodies as babies suckled from their breasts.

WW2, the blitz, people kept having babies even though they had no idea if they would soon be under Nazi rules and their homes were being flattened around them.

WW2 again, during the Holocaust, Jewish families in ghettos and concentration camps, such as those in Warsaw or Auschwitz, faced starvation, disease, and genocide. Despite these horrors, many women gave birth, often in secret.

Siege of Leningrad (1941–1944): Nazi forces blockaded the city for 872 days, causing mass starvation and freezing conditions, despite facing constant bombings and rations as low as 125 grams of bread, babies were still being born.

Rwandan Genocide (1994): In 100 days, up to 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were slaughtered. Survivors, including women who endured violence and loss, continued to start families in the aftermath, rebuilding communities.

Black Death (1347–1351) the plague wiped out about half of Erope, so people kept procreating.

I could go on, and on and on. Yes, humans will always continue to have children. Morality means nothing in the context of facts. Humans will keep having kids whether you think or I think it's immoral or not.

The drive to reproduce is literally the strongest drive in the human experience. It usurps everything else and is why we exist as a species at all.

Not everybody has that drive, and their genes are destined to die off. There is nothing wrong with not having children, as there are billions of us, and we are in no danger of dying out as a species. The majority of humans do want children, and that won't change unless there is some strange evolutionary leap coming.

Well a lot less people are pro creating but essentially it's a large part of human nature. I found it odder that people who are alive question it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow are you actually advocating suicide for anyone who questions this? Jesus.

Because I have enough capital and income to make the choices I wish to for my family. I would certainly have thought differently if I didn’t. I was late to it and will only have one, I may move out of the UK.

You are entitled to feel that way. Millions don't.

The indoor plumbing casual comment masks the fact that in lots of ways things generally are better now than they’ve been for most of human existence. It may get worse or better in various ways but none of us know for certain and to be so bleak is just the latest iteration of the end of the world is nigh crying that some people have always felt whatever the era. Life goes on because it’s powerfully motivated to do so on a fundamental level in most people, and other species. It’s not a matter of reason.

HeddaGarbled · 04/05/2025 00:40

I think indoor plumbing is safe for a little while 😃

There are plenty of creatures on this earth with far weirder and more uncomfortable lives than humans. Yet their species continues. It doesn’t take much to carry on a species - are you expecting the entire global population to suddenly decide there’s no possible worth in any future?

True true. There are loads of creatures that spend the majority of their lives being larvae. That's pretty uncomfortable. Why on earth do they bother?

JesusOnAYamaha · 04/05/2025 00:33

It's like this : when a mummy human and a daddy human love each other very much ...

If you don't understand maternal feelings, I don't think anyone will be able to help you.

And if you're choosing to be child-free, other people making different choices won't affect you 🤷‍♂️
