Have voted all but two votes:
. 2005 GE as moved address about 20 miles away 3-4 weeks before the poll date
. 2019 EU. What was the bloody point in voting for candidates to sit there for 7 months?

I have never voted not once and I’m mid 30s

You seem proud - why?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/05/2025 19:02

Yes, when I have been living in this country.

I could have had a postal vote when living abroad but didn't feel it would be right to vote here when I wasn't actually living here.

FlyPhobicDog · 03/05/2025 19:01

No, because I’ve lived in two areas that are extremely safe Labour seats (one of them not even bothering to field a conservative candidate), and my vote won’t make or break it. A few times I’ve been scheduled to be out of town and haven’t felt it was necessary to go out of my way. If I was in the area on the day I would.

CMOTDibbler · 03/05/2025 18:59

Yes, every single thing I could vote in since I turned 18

madnessitellyou · 03/05/2025 18:59

Yes. Every election of any sort since 1997. Including when I lived away from home at university.

I know several people who voted for the first time in the Brexit referendum. They had no idea what to do, where to go etc. I was astonished, and said as much (they were well over 30!). Apparently they’d not voted because they “couldn’t be arsed”. Voted for Brexit though. That they could be arsed to do Hmm

NotDarkGothicMama · 03/05/2025 18:57

No. I didn't vote for Police Commissioner last time because I think the post is pointless.

Natsku · 03/05/2025 18:57

I've missed at least one UK general election because I live abroad and they make it really hard for Brits abroad to vote, sending papers too late and things like that. I've missed one Presidential election in my country because at the time I was living out in the sticks so would have had to travel nearly an hour to vote, and it was down to two candidates, I was going to vote for one guy and my ex was going to vote for the other so seemed pointless when our votes just cancelled each other's out Grin

Otherwise I haven't missed any, and do my best to figure out who is the best person to vote for (get a LOT of options in my country, there's were hundreds to choose from in the last election a couple of weeks ago) by doing the election machine questions and checking manifestos and things like that.

stargirl1701 · 03/05/2025 18:57

Yes but I have spoiled my ballot at the last two.

cardibach · 03/05/2025 18:56

Yes. I’m 60. Never missed a vote. It’s important.

Moier · 03/05/2025 18:56

Yes ...scince 1976 .. year l turned 18 and my Dad took me to the Conservative club.

AnneElliott · 03/05/2025 18:55

Yes I have. Every single local and national election since I was 18.

Coulddowithanap · 03/05/2025 18:55

Yes, not always for a party but even a spoiled vote is still counted as a vote.

DonaldJohnTrump · 03/05/2025 18:55

No need for people to vote.

If the numbers don't stack up, I have a guy, in
the palm of my hand, who can make them figures work proper.🇺🇲

I know what our people want, even if they don't!.

And I'm giving it to them, bigly.

Threesacrow · 03/05/2025 18:54

I've voted in every election since 1973. Even though my vote was worthless because we don't have proportional representation. Now that we have moved to a different county, my vote is at last in line with the rest of the local electorate which makes me very happy.

TheNightingalesStarling · 03/05/2025 18:53

Missed 2015 General Election as DD was ill, heavy rain and polling station a mile walk away. However it was Sunaks constituency, it was a fore gone conclusion.

2017 GE... BFPO basically lost everyone's postal votes. They arrived after the election! We were given the option of proxy voting... not that useful when it was the last UK base you lived on!

And 2021 local election as we are ashamed to say... we forgot!

Caravaggiouch · 03/05/2025 18:50

I have, but have worked in local government so probably make it more of a priority than a lot of people do.

Zippedydodah · 03/05/2025 18:50

Yes, every election and I’m now 71.

Mooselooseinmyhoose · 03/05/2025 18:49

Yes. Sometimes I've spoiled my ballot if the vote or candidates weren't worth a damn. But I feel strongly that women died so we can vote so the least I can do is turn up.

RH1234 · 03/05/2025 18:49

Voted every vote since I was 21, unless I was overseas.

Voting is the democratic right of our nation. You don’t always get the result you want; however without voting you don’t have a view/opinion on the way you are being governed in my view.

nobodywantsit · 03/05/2025 18:48

I don’t think I’ve voted in one or two.
One a police commissioner vote.
I’ve always voted in MP and council elections with one exception when there wasn’t a party I could vote for. Two terrible independents and the rest right wingers. I can’t remember if I spoiled my ballot or didn’t go at all.

RobinStrike · 03/05/2025 18:48

Yes. Every local national and MEP since 1977 plus referendums. I think it’s important. I agree with others who have said not voting should be a positive act, should have to go to the ballot box and spoil your paper if you don’t want to vote for anyone- or they should add a none of the above.
