Why can’t Harry just pay for his own private security?

jennylamb1 · 03/05/2025 14:36

Don’t get it. He says that he can’t ever visit the UK again because his security won’t be provided. Loads of celebrities and high profile business people pay for their own security, why should tax payers pay for his security when he isn’t a working royal anymore?

would help the boy feel a little happier and less bitter

He is a 40 year old man. A middle-aged man. More than two decades beyond the point it would be reasonable to call him a ‘boy’. Just three years younger than David Cameron was when he became prime minister. Calling Harry a ‘boy’ removes responsibility from him for his actions. He is a grown man who is facing the fallout of his own actions and it is well past time he grew up and accepted his responsibility.

This. I don't know why people infantilise him.

It also only covers him - not Meghan or his children. There have been very credible threats to Archie when they were living in Windsor.

It does cover his family. The risk assesmentvdone before each visit takes account of threats.

Either I should have clarified #NotAllRichPeople or you're making the point that they & I disagree on what adequate tax is

(And when I refer to the wealthy, I mean the super rich)

I am making the point that you and they will disagree on what adequately tax is.

Why do you not believe him?

Edited

Well because I know the FACTS and I have seen what he says and they are totally different things.

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 04/05/2025 10:36

I think you will find they feel they do pay adequate tax.

Excellent point
Only other possibility is that Charlie still believes the rumours that Harry isn't his, so is being spiteful 😲

Oh for goodness sake 🙄

As always people read his words or listen and don’t really think or understand what they say!
he has never taken responsibility for his own actions, they are always someone else fault , he’s never sorry for what’s he’s done , only sorry he was caught .
he wants to do as he pleases, he doesn’t want us to know about it.

Slight tangent, but I find it interesting how the very wealthy & privileged are perfectly happy for taxpayers to fund their security but baulk at paying adequate tax for the NHS & state schools...

Football clubs can pay for private security

They can’t actually. All this talk of ‘private security’ is a red herring. Yes you can pay bodyguards who will attempt to intervene in the moment of an attack, but private security cannot gather intelligence - or their powers to do so are very very restricted. So while they could pay some guards to stand about and intervene if there’s an issue, they couldn’t be alerted to a planned attack or similar without the intelligence services investigating this.

I think PP comment about nobody choosing their parents/family is very enlightening, I hadn’t thought of it like that.

But the assumption that his aim is IPP status is an interpretation from people on here? Or elsewhere?

If H doesn’t want IPP level security why is he complaining other governments won’t provide it.

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 04/05/2025 10:00

I ran an event once involving a very senior royal and a few days prior to this a security team turned up to scope the area. In addition to their bodyguards on the ground, there were snipers (police) positioned on roofs above on the day, looking down on proceedings.
Every minute of the event had to be accounted for and every person who interacted with them directly named in advance.
It’s incredibly costly.

It comes from the original Sussex Royal website that they created when they decided to "carve a progressive new role within the Institution" and "collaborate with the Queen".
They later deleted the claim about IPP status, but clearly, this is the main issue.

CompletelyFlopped · 04/05/2025 09:26

I am so.sick of Harry whining and moaning about absolutely everything.

He has so so much in life but I don't think I've ever heard him say thank you for what he has

He is so focussed on what he doesn't have, that he has completely forgotten to.look.around him and see what he DOES have.

The British tax payer DOES continue to fund his security when he comes here. He is always risk assessed. If the intelligence suggested a need for greater security when he visits, he'd get it.

We have funded this man since he was born. Everything he has is because the British people paid for it for him.

He has never said thank you for all that. Thank you for the life of privilege he has been afforded.

It's always 'but I didn't get as a much as Wils' or 'but I want that'

He looks so bloody miserable these days. Perhaps a dose of gratitude - to the British people, to his father, to his grandparents would help the boy feel a little happier and less bitter

He needs to open his eyes to what he has and stop moaning about what he doesn't.

He may complain it wasn't his choice to be born a royal. But NONE of us have a choice which family we were born into. Would he rather have been born in a council flat in Bradford with his dad in prison and his mum on crack? Because plenty of people are born into similar circumstances without choice. Do they whine and whinge about it constantly? Would he rather have been born in Sudan? In Gaza? In a war zone anywhere in the world?

None of us have a choice. He is lucky to have been born into the life he was. Of course there are disadvantages as there are inno matter which family you were born into! But Harry is the only human that bangs on about it and despite having lucked out in life's birthing lottery, he still can't seem to find any gratitude in his heart, or see how his moaning looks to people that are TRULY suffering.

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 04/05/2025 09:14

Of course, if he had won his case all it would have meant is that RAVEC reassessed. They would likely have come to the same conclusion.

CleaningSilverCandlesticks · 04/05/2025 09:13

In his interview he whines about other governments being told not to provide him with security. The only reason why they would as a matter of course would be if he had IPP status. Given the cost of IPP status to host countries very few people are given it.

kirinm · 04/05/2025 09:06

Harassedevictee · 04/05/2025 09:04

As other posters have said his aim is IPP status.

H said the RF got other governments to withdraw security. What he is referring to is Canada, when they were in the planning stages of megxit they were living in Canada with UK and Canada providing/funding 24/7 security.

HMTLQ told them if they stepped down as a working royal (and as H moved down the line of succession) his security would change but H ignored her and was shocked when it was changed.

In retrospect Hs security should have changed perceptibly when George and then Charlotte were born. H would have hated it but it would have meant it was changed before M was on the scene.

But the assumption that his aim is IPP status is an interpretation from people on here? Or elsewhere?

This case was, but given how much security must be costing H&M ex-UK here's been speculation (and that's all it is) that the ultimate goal for the pair is IPP status...

A win for them in the UK courts might, perhaps, maybe, have given them leverage to pursue that claim...

myrtleWilson · 04/05/2025 09:00

I think it’s both @kirinm as in his interview he links security in UK to security elsewhere. The mechanics of the case was no more than did RAVEC apply its policy correctly, and if not, did it have ‘good reason’
However @serenster has (on another thread) outlined the link between his aim of not just getting RAVEC to reassess their decision making process but also come to a different conclusion and the link to IPP status - which the Sussexes referenced in their manifesto .
@AquaPeer I don’t think we can say this case was about Harry paying for security as I seem to recall (could be mistaken) that he only made the offer to pay after he had begun the legal challenge

kirinm · 04/05/2025 08:41

Harassedevictee · 04/05/2025 08:03

The issue is H wants 24/7 security globally so for UK tax payers or US tax payers to fund it. This has always been about him and his family being classed as IPP so someone else picks up the bill.

I thought this was about security when he’s here?

BlackPantherPrincess · 04/05/2025 08:38

It’s ironic really that he wants so much security for his “charity work” using massive resources to raise money, doesn’t seem economical to me.
