Why can’t Harry just pay for his own private security?

Don’t get it. He says that he can’t ever visit the UK again because his security won’t be provided. Loads of celebrities and high profile business people pay for their own security, why should tax payers pay for his security when he isn’t a working royal anymore?

So if we don’t actually know what the security arrangements are why are people in this thread so adamant that he gets full police protection if he gives 28 days notice?

He has to give 30 days not 28 days notice and he’s not guaranteed full protection but bespoke based on an assessment hence the notice period requirement. He won’t get the automatic full protection the other senior working Royals get given he’s not one of them any longer.

He doesnt want his family at risk do they won’t come to Uk.

Yet he will go to Colombia, Nigeria and Ukraine?

No this is what you clearly don’t understand!! Your taxes have already been allocated, this will be an extra expense that hasn’t been accounted for !!
do you not understand that?

Divert it from football clubs

No one is saying he would get ‘full police protection’ they are saying he will get police protection appropriate for the risk.

Ah but that’s different you see!
you are not a high profile member of the royal family who is at great risk from being high profile!
the fact that Harry is so very high profile because he can’t stop splashing himself and his opinions all over the global media and internet and penning books of course is not his fault!!
and the fact he’s managed to offend and piss off people in high and low places is just unfortunate, he can’t be held to blame for likening his Taliban kills to chess pieces ♟️, how was he to know they would take great offence!

But is it really his fault if one of his family are murdered just because they’ve made themselves so controversial? He’s not an evil person

So we should provide JK Rowling with armed met officers, 24/7 365 days per year? She receives death threats constantly, honestly think about it without emotion about what you are suggesting, every celebrity could demand what Harry wants if they get a nasty e mail, it’s completely financially unviable. Do you really want to pay a lot more tax from your pay packet to protect multi millionaires and Billionaires?

Well I did make that counter argument earlier that David beckham etc don’t get police protection. I supppse Harry is higher profile & at higher risk from being royal & being more controversial to most ppl than jk Rowling etc.
I guess it is what it is, he isn’t gong to get police security unless a threat has been identified. He doesnt want his family at risk do they won’t come to Uk.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 03/05/2025 23:34

He is also sufficiently far down the line of succession to be constitutionally irrelevant.

Exactly, he’s just not that important anymore to the constitution 🤷🏻‍♀️

jeffgoldblum · 03/05/2025 23:33

JorgyPorgy · 03/05/2025 23:26

They already have it through my taxes . Maybe some can be diverted away from football clubs who can pay for their own security instead of tax payer funded police presence

Is he not higher profile than other RF members? There is a lot of online animosity towards him & Meghan , maybe that makes him higher risk?

No. If he shut up and became the point to are citizen he claimed he wanted to be then everyone would forget about him.

He is also sufficiently far down the line of succession to be constitutionally irrelevant.

Let’s just say if RAVEC were to assess me I expect they would decide there was no risk. But I would still feel safer with an armed protection unit, especially walking home late at night.

JorgyPorgy · 03/05/2025 23:29

We all would but we aren’t all high profile at high risk

Well quite. That is why security is based on professionally assessed risk level, not what makes individuals feel safe.

This might sound heartless but those two have brought it on themselves. If he went and lived a quiet life like Princess Anne or Prince Edward and their families he wouldnt need full time security.

And that will be taken into account, our Security Services are not imbeciles.

Yes but uk intelligence won’t know all the threats, some will slip through net. If I were Harry I’d personally be fearful for mine & my families safety if I were him , even if Uk said “ no threats identified , no armed police needed”
