To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

Harry betrayed his family, which could cause the monarchy to collapse. So it's not a small thing. The king is an old guy with cancer who wants to do his king-work before he dies.

He doesn't owe a thing to that prat who left, or to the awful woman he left with.

Dear King, don't talk to Harry. He'll betray you again. Talk to William and Catherine. And George. If you all play this right, and I know you are trying, George will be king one day. And let the intelligence people work on that woman. We'd believe pretty much anything they said about her.

lizzyBennet08 · 04/05/2025 15:52

It’s totally clear that Charles couldn’t talk to him while the court case was ongoing. It would be akin to the defendant making contact with one of the witnesses before a trial.

Im not a fan of Charles really but feel that he was totally correct in refusing to have any conversation or input into the process while legal proceedings were ongoing.
Can you imagine the headlines if he was seen as king of England to have intervened or even had a conversation about a legal case involving his son. It would
come
up in court and could have the potential to collapse the monarchy.

Harry could have had a great life as a 'Spare' in exactly the same position as Anne and Edward / Sophie.
You wouldn't exactly say Andrew is slumming it either.

Harry's cousins all seem to be getting on with making their own way in the world. Peter has been divorced twice but the rest seem to be getting in OK.

Like Princess Margaret did? Because that’s a far more relevant comparison.

It really does belong in the Royal Family section. I don’t give a flying fuck whether they talk to one another or not. And if you believe anything that Harry says, well you need to start having a think about what other things you’ve heard and believe.

If you disbelieve what he says and only believe an establishment known for closing ranks whilst also working against each other when it suits, then you might want to look at why you dislike the only person who has the courage to protect his family. If Charles had done that, Diana would still be alive.

Just get shot of the whole bloody lot of them.

Definitely.

Ukisgaslit · 04/05/2025 14:35

It’s already started with Louis

@Createausername1970

Im well aware that Louis isn’t the ‘spare’ but the Windsor PR machine needs a woman they can cast as the ‘work horse’ asap.
Kate and William do the square root of nothing and have made it clear they plan to do even less.
So they will put their daughter ( I’ve forgotten her name momentarily) in the Anne role and Louis will be ‘rogue’ or the ‘baddie’ depending on what they need to distract their remaining supporters with.

you are seriously overthinking this

Some of you need to go and read the ongoing thread in Relationships with the title about growing up in a stately home. You might have a better idea of reality.

Leafy3 · 04/05/2025 10:27

People complaining that the royals still treat Andrew as one of the family are forgetting that they probably believe he's innocent of the allegations.

And he only found out about Charles’s recent brief stay in hospital at the same time as everyone else .

Yea that too.
It absolutely screams very loudly they do not trust him or Meghan to hold their confidence.

JanefromLondon1 · 04/05/2025 10:17

I think it’s fab the king isn’t speaking to him. Shows everyone out there being affected by a narcissist (well 2 of them) that you can set boundaries and cease contact to protect you and your family. Fuck what anyone else thinks.

Createausername1970 · 04/05/2025 10:17

Ukisgaslit · 04/05/2025 06:51

@Realitydoesntcare

You say that Charles has to worry constantly about being sold out to the press by anyone around him . That is complete nonsense.
No employee can say a word- they are all threatened with legal action
We know about Diana and Virginia Guiffre, sadly.
This is what Harry speaking out is so frightening for the Windsors- the whole royalty scam is a facade and Harry can expose that . The Windsors are selling a lie of the ‘perfect family’ for the gullible and bored.
And as a republican I’d note that Harry’s main ire is reserved for the suits who surround the institution, not the family itself. He describes William and Charles as trapped . There is an argument for getting rid of the monarchy to free the individuals currently acting as ‘royals’
Louis will be next to be the spare thrown to the press to make the heir look better.

Louis isn't the spare.

What I find Unbe-FUCKING-lievable is the fact that what he is accusing his father and brother of is EXACTLY what he and meghan are doing to her father - for pretty much the same reasons. And nobody seems to be pointing this out to them!

He publicised preparing for his visit to the U.K. for their wedding and did an interview/s and they have completely disowned him, even when he’s had severe health scares - they’ve written him off, no going back. Haven’t seen him for years - Harry and their kids have never met him!

Now they’re saying times short and life is precious, referring to Charles and his cancer - what about her dad and his heart problems, and whatever else he has, given he’s not exactly getting any younger either, and yet they couldn’t give two shits about him bc he isn’t worth anything to them in monetary or promotional to their brand terms.

Harry and his wife have given multiple interviews, he’s written a book, (he said he could write more) -isn’t she writing one now? - with in-depth, deeply personal information about his close family (who are fucking royalty with the eyes of the world on them and a reputation to try to maintain), not just his experiences but actual private information about them that he has now shared with the world without any of their permission.

And yet they both feel entitled to reconcile, now that they’ve got their grievances off their collective chest and told everybody about them, and wonder why they won’t be warmly accepted by the people they strongly criticised and betrayed. What the actual fuck?

Try forgiving meghans dad for a start maybe?

How can they not see the blatant double standard and hypocrisy?

👏🏼👏🏼

Moveoverdarlin · 04/05/2025 09:41

I think they’re all frightened to death of talking to him. Everything ends up on Oprah, or in a book or being told to the BBC.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/05/2025 09:39

Needspaceforlego · 04/05/2025 09:14

I actually think Charles does still love Harry. And I'm sure it hurts him that he has 2 DGC he doesn't know.
But ultimately he cannot trust Harry won't cash in on any conversations that they have.

They as a family waited until the right moment to announce Kates cancer, the start of the school holidays. Give as much time as possible for the dust to settle before the children went back to school.
Harry was told just before it was broadcast. Think of all the people who must have known before that broadcast royal staff, the camera crew, hospital, family.

They do not trust him not to blab to.the press.

And he only found out about Charles’s recent brief stay in hospital at the same time as everyone else .

BellissimoGecko · 04/05/2025 09:35

Harry sees everything through his own lens. It seems that he can’t think about anyone else for a second. Charles’ illness? ‘I don’t know how much time he has left.’ He doesn’t express any sympathy for a Charles or Camilla going through cancer.

He hasn’t mentioned Kate’s cancer, or how traumatic that must be for her and her family.

It’s all him, him, him.

Megan certainly hasn’t helped. Mocking the queen with that stupid curtsy, and all the lies she told - that she had never heard of Harry, that they actually got married days before their wedding, etc. makes it very hard to like her.

Needspaceforlego · 04/05/2025 09:14

legsekeven · 04/05/2025 08:47

That’s a very easy thing to say! I can’t imagine my children ever doing anything bad enough to stop me talking to them. But some children do(rich or poor). It’s not a class thing or a wealth thing, you just can’t imagine it until it happens

As the head of the Church

The King should show forgiveness & welcome Harry & his family back

Therefore I agree, that the situation looks worse for the Royal Family, than for Harry & his family

But he doesn't want to be welcomed back? He isn't asking for forgiveness.

You can't forgive someone and welcome them back when they are still fighting you.

FacingTheWall · 02/05/2025 21:28

I wouldn’t speak to him either if he was my son. You’d never know what he’d do with the conversations.

Exactly!

Not on the same scale but I have a niece who takes to Facebook when she has a fall out with her DH (or other family members/friends). It's excruciatingly painful to watch so I can only guess how it feels to be the victim.

My mother always told me that there was nothing I could do that would stop her loving me and being involved with me. I suppose poor people just have different values. Perhaps Charles is money rich and heart poor.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/05/2025 08:38

Sorry @midlandsmummy123 you meant W and D ,
W watched the MB programme with his House Master . Diana phoned afterwards and William refused to speak to her .
Diana herself said that.

Ukisgaslit · 04/05/2025 08:38

@curious79
Had you also been throwing your son to the wolves in the tabloid press ?

curious79 · 04/05/2025 08:36

If each time I spoke to my son and we disagreed and I then found his view of events charted in the local newspaper I would indeed be very wary of him and not inclined to build bridges
