To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

I was amazed that this interview was the lead story on both bbc news and sky at 10pm . Sky even interrupted the coverage of the local elections to report it as breaking news earlier . Probably no bad thing as the fillers whilst they wait for results to come in is usually dire ….

I have only heard a few bits but the part that struck me was him saying he is willing to forgive them . There was no mention of him accepting that he had perhaps made mistakes ( Oprah , Spare , netflix etc ) and would also ask for forgiveness from them . Obviously he didn’t need to spell out these but could be a bit vague and accept that he too had made mistakes .

Surely for any reconcilation to happen both parties have to accept that they made mistakes .

I do agree with what others have said that it would be really difficult for the RF to trust him going forward and that he wouldn’t report what was said ( or his interpretation of it ) to the press .
One of the major sticking points for H& M is they can bleat on about the press but their ( financial ) survival rests upon being current and newsworthy .

That is tellingly the very expensive lifestyle that they have chosen . They didn’t go away and lead a quiet and more modest lifestyle and keep out of the press .

The personalities of H& M make it very difficult for them to shut up and they are constantly trying to establish that they are the wronged ones and the victims in all of this . I do accept that they were no doubt thrown under the bus at various points when the RF sought to deflect from other stories .

I do accept that H & M were vilified in the press ( especially ) the tabloids and there may have been an element of racism for this as it was clear that K & M did not get the same treatment.
.
I really can’t see a way forward here , H & M are so deeply entrenched in their version of events . It is noteworthy that M seems at least not to be keen on doing joint interviews / events as the default, as she is obviously trying to establish her lifestyle site .

He knows anything he says to Harry will be repeated in another book or interview with the sole purpose of lining Harry's pockets.

All of it has been orchestrated by his wife, she who must be obeyed who has cut off her own father.

Ah the misogynistic "must be the woman's fault" as if Harry was perfectly happy before he met her.

Not one of Thomas Markle's grandchildren speaks to him.

maltravers · 02/05/2025 22:42

One minute Harry says he wants to reconcile and in the next breath he’s complaining that the royal family is behind the security decision, it’s all an attempt to manipulate him and make him do stuff, blah, blah, blah. You can see why the RF doesn’t engage.

RobinStrike · 02/05/2025 22:42

Last time Harry was over he was offered a place to stay at Buckingham Palace, but he said he couldn’t because it didn’t have a back entrance /exit so wasn’t secure enough for the press to not know where he was going. None of the other royals have ever had this problem. He would have been in a secure guarded property. I don’t for a second believe that there isn’t a back entrance. The fruit and veg don’t go through the main doors.

I find it very hard to believe that the king has simply cut off Harry, essentially going NC with him. Harry is very good at twisting the narrative into something that suits him at the time. I still remember him saying that they didn’t insinuate that the RF were racist following his OW interview. He very cleverly pushed it onto the media, but you can clearly hear M telling OW that someone in the RF was asking what colour Archie’s skin would be. That alone makes me question if he’s telling the whole truth.

I agree

having just watched the interview Harry did a lot of insinuating about who was behind the decision to remove his security protection. Never naming names, but making sure we know it was someone in the royal household.

Sortofdontwantto · 02/05/2025 22:39

A complete prick. Imagine nearing the end of your life and not speaking to your son because of some pointless shit about security.

Get rid of the royals

Showerflowers · 02/05/2025 22:37

I just watched the interview. It’s not that Charles doesn’t want to speak to him, Charles cannot speak to him while this was going through court? Am I wrong?

RobinStrike · 02/05/2025 22:36

I believe Charles probably loves Harry dearly but he can’t run the risk of recorded phone calls, divulging information to the press about his illness and his plans etc. He probably also worries what talking to Harry and them him blabbing to the press/book/Netflix would do not only to the public’s view of him but how it reflects on the monarchy and William, and whether William would forgive him if he gave Harry more fodder for his interviews.
I think Charles has very little choice but to be NC beyond the vaguest of pleasantries, and I wonder if he’d find it harder to do that than to not speak at all.

Titasaducksarse · 02/05/2025 22:35

Boo hoo cry me a river as his septuagenarian father has been dealing with cancer.....whilst Harry's been fannying about in USA with his media hungry wife.

DreamTheMoors · 02/05/2025 22:35

The hatred on these four pages is disappointing.
And perhaps Charles and William are not angry that Harry wrote a book, because Charles wrote a scathing book about his own parents. Elizabeth II and Phillip were quite forgiving.
Perhaps they’re angry because Harry told the truth. Why else would they be so angry and upset? The truth makes people incensed.
Just a thought.
Not my family.
Not my business.

midlandsmummy123 · 02/05/2025 22:33

He only gets security if he is invited on a Royal visit, much like Princess Anne only gets security on official duties. However the threat level is did not go down when his full time armed security was removed. Anyway I think its difficult for Charles to be head of the CofE and not follow their teachings around forgiveness.

CraftyNavySeal · 02/05/2025 22:33

MrsCravensworth · 02/05/2025 21:56

Good. I hope she blows the lid on the lot of them.

Blows the lid on what though? This is hardly wikileaks here.

If Harry and Meghan came out and said the royal family were an archaic institution that reinforces deep inequality in our society, that it’s abhorrent that they own palaces whilst veterans are homeless, I would respect that.

Except it’s all “this elderly relative is a bit racist and this one has affairs and this one favoured William over me”. Boo fucking hoo, who cares about any of this?

Well, they obviously do want him dead because the risk to his and his family's safety is phenomenal. Just think how many crazies there are out there who want to take a pop at him, Meghan and the kids. I just hope that nothing happens to them. Given the way that the world of politics is shifting right now and feeding the crazy it's quite scary.

He will get security. It's not been denied.

But his demands for special security because he is more special than everyone else has not been upheld

Watching 'The Crown'? . That was a very biased (but fascinating) programme! It was Tv, made to sell. Grow up!

I am quite grown up thank you and that comment was made tongue in cheek - the grin was the clue !

EdithBond · 02/05/2025 22:28

It’s been said on another thread that KC3 couldn’t speak to him while the court judgment was pending because Harry was prosecuting the Crown. As it was an appeal, that may mean they haven’t been able to directly communicate for some time.

It he doesn’t get permission to appeal, I guess they can now speak again.

The question is, will his father want to speak to him given he’s now set rumours flying that Charles may not have long to live. That’s probably breached nearly every protocol going and (as someone said on another thread) may still legally count as treason.

Illegally18 · 02/05/2025 22:27

Marmaladelover · 02/05/2025 21:26

I admit I am wondering if Harry is telling the truth I suspect what happens though is the King doesn’t phone him and won’t accept calls from Harry - maybe they go through a switchboard / personal secretary .
I am guessing since I get most ( all ) of my knowledge of royal protocol from watching The Crown Grin

I did smile at the pp comment that if the King was on Mumsnet we would advise him to go NC Except isn’t that usually reserved for the adult child rather than the parent ?

Collegennow · 02/05/2025 22:22

Kate must love this! No more shouts of Katie Waite or how her mum engineered the marriage 😂

I think it's sad that it's come to this. Harry must feel like an orphan. I think if Charles was a better man and father, he would keep trying to build bridges. That's just what I would do if it was my child. History is full of warring father/son royalty though. Their German ancestors the Georges, had terrible relationships with their sons so perhaps it's a family trait!

slashlover · 02/05/2025 22:21

MereNoelle · 02/05/2025 21:17

I assume he’s concerned that if he talks to Harry, Harry will put the conversations in his next book.

Yes, he should just leak it through "anonymous sources" and "a member of palace staff" like the rest of his family.

bluesinthenight · 02/05/2025 22:21

ThedaBara · 02/05/2025 21:57

At the end of the interview Harry says that there are 'some who want history to repeat itself' in reference to Diana. It's absolutely awful, it just comes across as though there is nothing he won't say. Is he employing that there are people in his family who want him or his wife dead?? He comes across as completely deluded, and I'm not surprised that his father and brother who are supporting eachother through their cancer journeys don't have any energy for a chat about the weather with him.

Well, they obviously do want him dead because the risk to his and his family's safety is phenomenal. Just think how many crazies there are out there who want to take a pop at him, Meghan and the kids. I just hope that nothing happens to them. whynotwhatknot · 02/05/2025 22:15

maybe because mouth almighty will tell everyone what he says?

he cant wait to trash the family so he doesnt get invited anymore

Cynic17 · 02/05/2025 22:14

Harry sued His Majesty's Government in His Majesty's courts, so of course His Majesty couldn't speak to him as, apparently, Harry just wanted to discuss the court case. It's much more than just a father/son fall out.
It is very troubling that Harry appears to have no understanding of how constitutional monarchy works, and thinks his Pa can just make things happen with a wave of his hand.

Crucially, H hasn't had his security removed and, if he is assessed to need it on a visit to the UK, then it will be provided. So he's talking nonsense.

I imagine that KC is very sad about it all, but he has to protect both himself and the monarchy.

Marmaladelover · 02/05/2025 22:14

PotolKimchi · 02/05/2025 21:58

@CagneyNYPD1 He will get the highest security if he comes to the UK with 30 days notice and asks to stay in a Royal household. I assume they will whisk him from Heathrow to Buckingham Palace and certainly when he and his family meet his father or brother even in private there will be plenty of security.

It might well be that his father and brother don’t want to meet him.

But it’s very clear from the judgement that he does get security when he’s in the UK. They don’t reveal if their guards are armed or not because they can’t. But I suspect sometimes they are. He can’t pay for his own armed protection because no one can here. So there is a contradiction right. Either he trusts the Met and their judgement. Or he doesn’t. If he doesn’t why has he just spent tax payer money and his own money asking for MORE protection from the same people he doesn’t trust?!

Edited

I hadn’t realised this snd given tread the judgement . In that case, yes , I am being very unreasonable !

It’s a bit scary for the RF that Meghan knows everything.

They need to be careful, she will cash in once divorced…

That would be Meghan, the only royal bride who went into the marriage independently wealthy? How many more years are people going to say they're going to get divorced? It'll be their silver wedding and people will still be forecasting divorce.

He's Philip's double.

I think he definitely has the look of some of the royals. I don’t believe he’s a love child based on how he looks nowadays
