To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

It's berk not burk, Meghan not Megan, Kruschev not Krushev, and your punctuation is all over the place.

BlondiePortz · 02/05/2025 23:13

So we only have his view on all this so the public just believes this?

And i am neutral on the royals

Portakalkedi · 02/05/2025 23:12

It's very tiresome when the pro-Harry and Meghan types come out of the woodwork on these threads, asking why everyone hates the whinging duo. NOBODY cares enough to hate them (maybe look up the meaning of the word?), but a public figure constantly whinging in the media, telling lies, exploiting others for payment, and being a massive hypocrite, is ALWAYS going to attract well-deserved negative comments, no matter who they are.

A complete prick. Imagine nearing the end of your life and not speaking to your son because of some pointless shit about security.

Get rid of the royals

Maybe it was the court case he couldn’t talk about - essentially Harry is taking ‘the crown’ to court. But do you really think an educated, reflective, ageing poorly man like Charles is petulantly ‘not speaking’ to his son about ‘pointless shit’? Just have a little think, further than the end of your nose, about why he might be devastated, betrayed and feeling like he can’t talk to Harry…

GreenClock · 02/05/2025 23:07

H is definitely a Royal. He looks a lot like Philip. The red hair comes from Diana’s father and siblings, not Hewitt. If Hewitt were blond or brown-haired, no one would be calling him Harry’s bio father because there is no other likeness really, other than the unusual colouring (which is also present in the Spencers).

It’s funny watching this over-privileged lot bicker and squabble, but there’s an elderly man with cancer at the heart of it which makes it less amusing than it was 18 months ago.

Imagine having cancer and not being able to talk to your own son because he will cash in on your personal information and splash it all over the media.

He allowed his sons to walk behind their mothers coffin at her funeral while the world watch all for the royal image

he packed them back off to boarding school when their were grieving

he had no intentions of ever being faithful and choose a bride that suited his needs and watched her mental health spiral and did nothing

what makes you think Charles is a nice guy he has never had a reputation of being nice

🤨🤨 there’s always one!

midlandsmummy123 · 02/05/2025 23:05

actually @imfae makes a good point, it was a good day for Labour to bury the bad news about the local election results...

Most of us aren't worried about relatives revealing our "secret" indiscretions because we don't have anything much to either conceal or reveal.

No, most of us aren't bothered because (short of criminal offences), no-one would really care.

But, anyway, the fact is that Harry chose to have a book published about apparently very personal family matters. What he said may be true (I can't claim to be an expert on the royal family). but inevitably his family won't feel able to have honest conversations with him again.

This 100%. What ‘ the firm’ did to those children to satisfy the ghoulish demands of ‘the people’ was barbaric. He was 13 years old and expected to display his grief like an entertainment show. Horrific

Bollocks. It’s a rite they had to do because that’s what you do. Like other 13 year olds going to their mums funerals and having to throw flowers or stand by graves.
Nothing to do with how you grieve with your family in private after the formal bit.

It’s a bit scary for the RF that Meghan knows everything.

They need to be careful, she will cash in once divorced…

Everything. What are they so scared of her knowing?

The King has a duty to protect the country. Why would he trust 2 people who sell everything to Netflix?

Besides we don't even know how much they do or don't speak

This.

You can't trust a word Harry says as he'll just use it for publicity/financial gain.

Portakalkedi · 02/05/2025 23:01

Firstly, whatever this whinging tw*t says cannot be relied on as truth, and secondly, would you speak to a family member who cashed in by selling whatever you said? Perhaps they do speak and exchange greetings, we don't know, but neither the King nor any other of the RF are going to do more than that. I find it amazing that Harry and Meghan seem unable to comprehend this (along with many other things).

that

Facially, if you concentrate on the eyes, Charles and Harry are very similar.

Yes, on passports the recognition goes on the eyes /nose / mouth triangle. Harry looks very much like Charles.

Absolute prick of a man.

He has also been a victim of 'the firm', but he recognises that responsibility and sacrifice is the flip side to the huge amount of privilege they have.

The whole institution is so far removed from modern life and most people's reality, it's cruel all round.

Harry has committed the ultimate betrayal in that sphere, it's difficult for us normals to understand.

Harry and William were both given the choice.

Prince Philip encouraged them but he had walked behind his sister and her three children & newborn baby when he himself was only 16

It's not like wasn't something he hadn't done himself when he was also very young.

Harry had been at boarding school for 4 years by the time Diana died. It wasn't something new to them.

ThedaBara · 02/05/2025 22:55

TheOriginalEmu · 02/05/2025 22:05

or maybe he knows his family better than you do, and it might well be true they’d like to see her gone like Diana? Why are they immune to suspicion that they might be awful people? Because they’re rich and in the public eye?

I'm sure he does know his family better than I do, they're all awful as far as I'm concerned, but if his own family want him and his wife dead why on earth does he want to reconcile with them?? Why go on TV to stir the shit? He's inviting me to have an opinion by airing his dirty washing tbh

So PPs who think KC is a terrible person for not welcoming Harry back into the family: if your family member wrote a book about (supposed) very personal things that had happened, how would you feel? Do you think you would feel able to speak openly with them ever again?

I can't see how any of his family could ever trust him again, tbh

You do realise the royal family’s pr machine is constantly feeding the press personal information

do you really think Charles has absolutely no say ever in what the press is informed of

Well his own parents welcomed him after he wrote a book saying they were terrible parents.

I'd say that leaking things to journalists (as several journalists have admitted) is worse than writing it yourself.

EsmaCannonball · 02/05/2025 22:51

Well, the Corleones learned not to say anything in front of Fredo and that was a good move too.

bluesinthenight · 02/05/2025 22:50

CraftyNavySeal · 02/05/2025 22:33

Blows the lid on what though? This is hardly wikileaks here.

If Harry and Meghan came out and said the royal family were an archaic institution that reinforces deep inequality in our society, that it’s abhorrent that they own palaces whilst veterans are homeless, I would respect that.

Except it’s all “this elderly relative is a bit racist and this one has affairs and this one favoured William over me”. Boo fucking hoo, who cares about any of this?

Such a tell-all book would sell like hot cakes. I remember what it was like when the Morton book on Diana came out. And what about when the papers leaked Charles's conversation about how jealous he was of Camilla's tampon because it was in her nunni instead of him? We couldn't get enough of it.

Personally I wouldn't blame him for not speaking to his idiot son. However, are you really so naive that you believe everything that comes out of his stupid mouth?
