To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

Harry is a buffoon and a drug addled liar.
The King is wise to keep him at arms length from the rest of the family.
Harry will be living off his dead mother for ever.

Harry will be living off his dead mother for ever.

And accusing people like the iconic star of Pulp Fiction of doing the same!

H is such a lame wanger.

Not a hope in hell.
William knows enough to never let Harry near his own family again.

Has Harry ever said anything bad about his brother's family?

Genuine question, I don't really follow anything to do with any of them. Just find it incredibly interesting/weird that they're still a thing in their current form in this day and age. I guess there was some hope that the brothers - Harry especially - might have been able to modernise the institution a little?

tinyspiny · 03/05/2025 01:00

YABU , anything anyone in the RF says to H is just fodder for the next interview / book / rant therefore it is sensible to say nothing to him . He has bought this entirely on himself and now doesn’t like it that he’s actually irrelevant to most people in the UK now .

I think this is it.
Charles loves him dearly, remember him walking Meghan down the aisle, taking her Mums arm as they left the church.

It's trust that has gone.
Charles doesn't trust him. And more importantly William doesn't trust him. William guards his families privacy dearly too and I think it would really hurt William if the smallest snippet got out about his children.
I think they were testing him around the Queens death. Telling him stuff like she'd be flown or she'd be going on the train that was all leaked to the press. The plan had been made years earlier for what was to happen should HMQ die in Balmoral or other residences.

The late queen even made unheard of concessions for MeAgain and they threw it in her face as she was dying.

They are scum. W & K know it. So do most of the relatives.

They are toast if KC dies. I think that is starting to sink in.

Turmerictolly · 03/05/2025 00:44

… and Diana said the same about Charles so not sure why people are jumping to defend him. He had an affair whilst he was married to a young and inexperienced woman. He’s not a prince amongst men.

Turmerictolly · 03/05/2025 00:41

He seems like a cold and unfeeling father. He was sent off to Gordonstoun which had an effect on his own development. I feel sorry for Harry. He lost his mum at a formative age and has an emotionally distant relationship with his father which pre-dates all the Megan stuff. I hope he can find happiness in his little family and stay away from the toxic and stilted family who put the institution first (maybe as they must). Low or no contact as Mumsnet would advise.

MsAmerica · 03/05/2025 00:40

For me, as an American, stuck with a head of state who is an outright criminal, sulking seems pretty minor to me.
When Trump supporters were looking for any possible reason to trash then-President Biden, they pounced on the fact that he had cold-shouldered an out-of-wedlock grandchild. It was surprisingly out of character for a man known for his compassion. But should a leader be obliged to fake emotion just to satisfy a nosy public? I don't think so. If he does his job, maybe people should let the private life alone.

Agree. He doesn’t want his children mocked in the grifters’ next book.

RawBloomers · 03/05/2025 00:36

I find it a bit amusing that there's a thread on AIBU critical of a parent drawing a line in the sand with annoying offspring.

Maybe Camilla's been on here lamenting her DSC and the impact on her DH and she's passed on the advice to go no contact?

Velmy · 03/05/2025 00:00

Charles, like most royals, has repeatedly put the institution ahead of his own family. Not sure why anyone would think that'll change just because he's about to croak.

I wonder if William will extend the olive branch when Charlie is gone? 🤔

Well, the irony is not lost on me that the head of the Church of England has no forgiveness in him for his own son. But then quite a few so-called Christians seem to have been at the back of the queue when they were handing out values. I don't actually dislike Charles, or any of the royals except Andy really. But their hypocrisy is staggering.

What hypocrisy? How on earth do you know Charles hasn’t forgiven Harry? Has Charles come out and said so?

Forgiving someone does not mean forgetting what’s happened nor does it mean you’re obligated to carry on a relationship; especially if it leaves you open to continuing hurt and upset.

It’s entirely possible to forgive someone, wish them well but carry without them in your life - no one is entitled to be in anyone’s life. Forgiveness doesn’t mean being a doormat and it certainly doesn’t mean that just because you forgive, you’re not entitled to your own boundaries.

If you want to talk about hypocrisy and forgiveness though, look no further than Meghan’s Dad; funny how there’s no forgiveness for him, don’t you think?

Forgiving Harry and trusting him to not give another interview that causes distress to the family are two different things. He may well have forgiven him, but that doesn’t mean he has to give him the opportunity to produce more material for Netflix

BellissimoGecko · 03/05/2025 00:06

Why would you believe what Harry has said??

And if your son had written a book about you, why would you trust them ever again? 🤷🏼‍♀️

you reap what you sow.

Lindy2 · 03/05/2025 00:01

You're assuming Harry is actually telling the truth. He's not a reliable source of accurate information.

If it's true though I don't actually blame Charles. Who wants to talk to someone who is probably just trying to sell a story and doesn't care who they hurt on the way.

If Charles posted on Mumsnet about a child who lies and constantly causes family upset, he'd be told to go no contact.

I think the bottom line to that is Andrew knows when to keep his mouth shut. Harry doesn't

Harry is the equivalent of the village rent a mouth. If you want the world to know tell Harry.

I guess that's true and quite worrying. But I find Andrew's public presence in the royal family a lot more insulting than anything Harry and Meghan have done.

ThedaBara · 02/05/2025 21:57

At the end of the interview Harry says that there are 'some who want history to repeat itself' in reference to Diana. It's absolutely awful, it just comes across as though there is nothing he won't say. Is he employing that there are people in his family who want him or his wife dead?? He comes across as completely deluded, and I'm not surprised that his father and brother who are supporting eachother through their cancer journeys don't have any energy for a chat about the weather with him.

He and M tried to play that card with the whole fake car chase through NY thing but a photo from that 'incident' shows H, M and Doria in the back of the car and none of them are wearing seat belts! Wouldn't you be paranoid about using seat belts if you were him? He is a self centred twat, if I were Charles I wouldn't talk to him either!

I appreciate that writing a book about your family is going to put the cat amongst the pigeons. However, I find it absolutely gobsmacking that Charles won't reconcile with Harry and yet he allows his pervert of a brother to attend royal public gatherings as part of the family.

Wowzel · 02/05/2025 21:11

Surely this constant moaning to the press is exactly why he isn't talking to him? (If it's true)

What I find Unbe-FUCKING-lievable is the fact that what he is accusing his father and brother of is EXACTLY what he and meghan are doing to her father - for pretty much the same reasons. And nobody seems to be pointing this out to them!

He publicised preparing for his visit to the U.K. for their wedding and did an interview/s and they have completely disowned him, even when he’s had severe health scares - they’ve written him off, no going back. Haven’t seen him for years - Harry and their kids have never met him!

Now they’re saying times short and life is precious, referring to Charles and his cancer - what about her dad and his heart problems, and whatever else he has, given he’s not exactly getting any younger either, and yet they couldn’t give two shits about him bc he isn’t worth anything to them in monetary or promotional to their brand terms.

Harry and his wife have given multiple interviews, he’s written a book, (he said he could write more) -isn’t she writing one now? - with in-depth, deeply personal information about his close family (who are fucking royalty with the eyes of the world on them and a reputation to try to maintain), not just his experiences but actual private information about them that he has now shared with the world without any of their permission.

And yet they both feel entitled to reconcile, now that they’ve got their grievances off their collective chest and told everybody about them, and wonder why they won’t be warmly accepted by the people they strongly criticised and betrayed. What the actual fuck?

Try forgiving meghans dad for a start maybe?

How can they not see the blatant double standard and hypocrisy?

I believe Charles probably loves Harry dearly but he can’t run the risk of recorded phone calls, divulging information to the press about his illness and his plans etc. He probably also worries what talking to Harry and them him blabbing to the press/book/Netflix would do not only to the public’s view of him but how it reflects on the monarchy and William, and whether William would forgive him if he gave Harry more fodder for his interviews.
I think Charles has very little choice but to be NC beyond the vaguest of pleasantries, and I wonder if he’d find it harder to do that than to not speak at all.

I think this is it.

AcquadiP · 02/05/2025 23:21

Given his track record, I'm highly sceptical of anything that Harry says. Just because it's "his truth" doesn't make it the truth.

In addition, Harry clearly cannot be trusted so the risk in having a conversation with him would be that the information is then divulged in Harry's next interview or book.

He's a snake, I wouldn't trust him either.
