To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

Well, they obviously do want him dead because the risk to his and his family's safety is phenomenal. Just think how many crazies there are out there who want to take a pop at him, Meghan and the kids. I just hope that nothing happens to them. Given the way that the world of politics is shifting right now and feeding the crazy it's quite scary.

@bluesinthenight Do you think that H& M are still at risk nowadays?

They were at risk when they were first married, but now that they’ve been gone for over five years, are estranged from the RF, and not major celebs in the US (I live in the US, they get little attention here), would they still be targets?

Keirawr · 03/05/2025 03:17

So the ginger whinger sells another interview for money and for column inches. And his family is supposed to cave into that.

With someone as toxic as Harry as a family member, the rest of family are well rid.

The guy doesn’t want to speak to his dad. He just wants to freeload of him and the rest of the British public. And when he gets told no, he throws his toys out of the pram and thinks we are all naive enough to fall for the ‘oh I want to come back for a reconciliation’ nonsense. No, you want to come back to revive your pathetic public image, because the dollars are drying up.

To be honest it’s good that Scotland Yard have refused him police protection. Anything that keeps him away from this country is a plus.

I'm sure he does know his family better than I do, they're all awful as far as I'm concerned, but if his own family want him and his wife dead why on earth does he want to reconcile with them?? Why go on TV to stir the shit? He's inviting me to have an opinion by airing his dirty washing tbh

Because they’re his family I’d imagine. . Even people who suffer the worst abuse possible often still want to be loved by their family. He’s a human being with thoughts and feelings and emotions.
do I think he’s going about this the right way? No. But he’s been raised his whole life that everything he does is going to be public fodder, so it’s not hard to imagine that he knows no other way.
or I could be wrong as again, I don’t know them.

I just find it fascinating how people seem so interested in them. And that they think they know what they think and will do.

He allowed his sons to walk behind their mothers coffin at her funeral while the world watch all for the royal image

he packed them back off to boarding school when their were grieving

he had no intentions of ever being faithful and choose a bride that suited his needs and watched her mental health spiral and did nothing

what makes you think Charles is a nice guy he has never had a reputation of being nice

Let’s be fair here shall we

it was Philip that made the boys walk behind the coffin, Charles wouldntstand up to him to stop it though

They went back to boarding school because that was school, normal people wouldn’t send kids to boarding school but kids who lost parents would still go back to school at some point

I think he was prepared to try and make the marriage work, but Diana was, with doubt hard work, and as she got older got far more manipulative. She was also prepared to have affairs remember? Should he have married her, No but he did and both of them contributed to the end of the marriage

He did the best he could, remembering his own upbringing and expectations from his parents. Personally as a father he was not particularly good, but neither was he bad.

However Harry has trashed his family openly, told a myriad of proven lies alongside his wife and is incapable of understanding he chose to leave the family, so he makes his own way in the world and that includes paying his way. He gets security when he returns. Funny though how he and Meghan are happy to go to dangerous countries with no security provided, but won’t come to UK.

He made his bed he can now lie on it

Notknots · 03/05/2025 02:54

A lot of assumptions op. Apart from what is actually true, you're assuming "sulking".
There's a lot of reasons why people don't talk to each other.

LBFseBrom · 03/05/2025 02:35

Wowzel · 02/05/2025 21:11

Surely this constant moaning to the press is exactly why he isn't talking to him? (If it's true)

He doesn't appear to be moaning in this particular interview. He is asked questions and he answers factually. It's always been evident Harry would like to reconcile with the family but they have to meet him in the middle. The royal family takes a stance and does not budge. I bet they miss him though.

Onthemaintrunkline · 03/05/2025 02:21

H & M departing from being working senior members of the family, caused a ruckus I’ve no doubt…duty and all that. But if they’d quietly gone to live their lives in LA then hey good luck to them.

BUT they didn’t go quietly, they have moaned, criticised and made a good deal of money at every opportunity from their royal connection…and by the looks of it have no intention of ceasing.

Both of them need to just stop, stop the photo ops, stop advertising the galling references to so-called good works…just stop all of it!! - But will they, not a chance! What an embarrassment they have become.

Blackkittenfluff · 03/05/2025 02:21

Is James Hewitt his biological father?

Velmy · 03/05/2025 01:47

I know he'd talked about doing coke when he was younger and that he smokes a bit of weed (legal where he lives)...that doesn't make him a drug addict.

And there’s the Gabor Maté interview which was pay per view, from memory.

’Ongoing drug use is a fundamental part of my life’.

Here’s a link to an Australian media source, if you didn’t pay to see it.

I think H&M have been somewhat foolish and ill advised since leaving the UK. I don’t actually think what they wanted and advocated for in the first instance was that unreasonable.
I don’t think either of them where wrong to not be on board with the way the British media operate and I do think Meghan was treated badly (as have most women who marry into the royals). And I do think Meghan being American and not white brought out the worst of the press.
I also don’t think it’s hard to understand H&M position on the security. If there had been a plot to kidnap your young child would you not be fighting as hard as you could to get the information you needed to protect them. And if your father had the authority to provide a level of protection for your family but chooses not to - then equally would you really not resent that and be angry about it? Especially if your siblings family was provided with that security.

They are most certainly not perfect and have said and done some really ill advised things in recent years. But I’m not sure they bare sole responsibility for the situation as is now.

SammyScrounge · 03/05/2025 01:51

None of the RF will risk talking to Harry or Meghan for fear of being recorded and appearing in the tabloids. It"s what H&M do.
You could never trust a family member who did that

Velmy · 03/05/2025 01:47

TheAutumnCrow · 03/05/2025 01:40

Harry’s autobiography called Spare and his own Netflix output.

StrawberryWater · 03/05/2025 01:44

I don't like Harry but there's a lot of merit to what he says.

Why anyone thinks the royal family don't treat their own members like garbage is beyond me. It's gone on since the year dot and time and time again establishment, order and the protection of rule is the only thing King Charles and the Queen before him are interested in.

They haven't had some major turn around, aren't some suddenly open and accessible and they haven't stopped being the same nasty bunch of blowhards they've always been. They just have better PR managers now.

Diana might've been a bit of a cow herself but what the royals did to her was despicable. Charles is a gross human being. William and his mental health campaigns? Hahahahahahaha sorry but do me a favour. The British press might not report on what he gets up to but the rest of the world's media does.

I don't honestly think they'd care if Harry or Meghan were harmed in anyway as long as they're able to carry on as before.

In 20 years from now Prince Louis will probably be treated the same way as Harry. He's already been labelled as 'different' a bit of a 'scamp' and a 'trouble maker' and naughty.

TheAutumnCrow · 03/05/2025 01:40

Velmy · 03/05/2025 01:23

Drug addict? Where has this come from?

Harry’s autobiography called Spare and his own Netflix output.

askmenow · 03/05/2025 01:37

The King will have been advised he is currently unable to speak with his son given Harry has had an ongoing court case against his Majesty's Government. His own father's Government! This precludes his father from having any contact.

Legally his father, the King, cannot talk to him until the case is finally settled.

BUT as per usual ....Harry will play the victim over and over again. He's an idiot if he doesn't think most people see through these shenanigans.

mathanxiety · 03/05/2025 01:36

MereNoelle · 02/05/2025 21:17

I assume he’s concerned that if he talks to Harry, Harry will put the conversations in his next book.

So maybe have a nice, friendly conversation in which you express your undying love for your son and his family?

Needspaceforlego · 03/05/2025 01:28

Velmy · 03/05/2025 01:03

Has Harry ever said anything bad about his brother's family?

Genuine question, I don't really follow anything to do with any of them. Just find it incredibly interesting/weird that they're still a thing in their current form in this day and age. I guess there was some hope that the brothers - Harry especially - might have been able to modernise the institution a little?

He might not have said anything about the kids but he / Meghan blamed Kate for making Meghan cry.

Kate was days after giving birth. Worried about shoes rubbing on tiny Charlotte's bare feet and arguing over socks n tights.

All that stuff was leaked by H&M

DinaofCloud9 · 02/05/2025 21:10

I wouldn't believe just what Harry is saying to be honest.

This.

Also, if the king does speak to Harry, it’ll end up in a special with Oprah or splashed across the tabloids.

Harry has publically shared some very personal stuff that should never have been in the public domain. His sister in law and father have both been battling cancer, he needs to shut up.

Needspaceforlego · 03/05/2025 01:21

Velmy · 03/05/2025 00:00

Charles, like most royals, has repeatedly put the institution ahead of his own family. Not sure why anyone would think that'll change just because he's about to croak.

I wonder if William will extend the olive branch when Charlie is gone? 🤔

William is more likely to burn the olive branch after the hurt Harry has caused to his Dad and Kate.

They'll be no reconciliation with Harry while he's with Meghan. Harry might just might be accepted back grovelling without her.

I agree with this.

at the end of the day, being a spare if pretty psychologically devastating. He said a few times I was born into this family and he’s right - his family may hate what he’s said but does that mean he and his family shouldn’t receive protection? I don’t think so.

I also have a family estrangement and the reality is that you never stop loving the person despite the circumstances. It’s devastating for everyone,

He and his family DO get protection in the UK, via RAVEC, as deemed appropriate on a special bespoke basis which is (a) free to H, but costs us the UK taxpayers, and (b) more than other adult offspring and siblings of monarchs are getting.

Wintersgirl · 03/05/2025 01:14

I think Harry would have been tested who his father is waaay before now, he was probably tested as a baby when Diana had the affair with Hewitt, there's no way on earth the RF wouldn't have made sure he was Charles son. I think Charles is his father you only have to look at the likeness between Prince Phillip and Harry...

To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?
