To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

I wouldn’t talk to a family member if they had form for repeating conversations (likely with a ‘creative spin’ and thinly veiled insinuation) to Netflix and their favoured Hollywood interviewer/pal of the day.

Toootss · 03/05/2025 06:31

Going public about it is the last thing Harry should do.

I wonder how he likes earning his living?

Cadenza12 · 03/05/2025 06:18

How can the king speak to Harry when there's every expectation that there's zero confidentiality and misinterpretation? Once trust is gone, it's gone.

Westfacing · 03/05/2025 06:18

I don't believe much of what Harry says after he claimed in his book that he lost his virginity to an older woman - she was 19 Grin

Technically she was an adult but still a teenager and hardly an 'older woman', implying predatory behaviour with a 16 year-old.

Zuve · 03/05/2025 06:13

So Harry has never sent them birthday cards out Xmas cards. He is a sweet little boy but not the man

The protection is not the King's to give or deny its ravec

Diana was never in exile she was in Paris with her latest boyfriend enjoying her life her choice to refuse the security her choice to not wear a seatbelt

If Charles isn't talking to his son he will have good reason we can all speculate

The royal household is far too involved in the decision making re security. Princess Diana’s security let her get in a car with a drunk driver.

No sorry, parents don’t act like kids and send their children to Coventry. It’s spineless and childish. You have discussions and move forward.

Precisely.
Some of the bullshit on here demonstrates how much some MNers refuse to hear the truth- rather like Harry I guess!

I agree, I also think he’s wrong to stand in the way of protection for Harry. Completely wrong. It does sound like a stitch up and the king has chosen keeping his public happy over his son.

Harry lost his mother to crappy security and is living a life as an exile like her. I can see why security matters so much. I just can’t believe any father would risk his son and grandchildren like this. Liz Truss will get more security than him!

Harry had a shitty childhood, lost his mother at such a young age and gave service. He does deserve better than this and I think the king should grow some balls and be a dad- not just to his heir. He chose to have 2 children and as such knew he was taking on a child who would not be an heir. You parent all your children and all their circumstances, and should be there to swim alongside when mistakes are made. Let’s face it King Charles has made many himself. Not speaking to him is childish, shows a choosing of country over child and is subjecting somebody who lost one parent at a young age to the loss of another which is just cruel. I like the king and don’t think he has had it easy himself however I don’t think he is setting a great example on parenting with Harry.

Wowzel · 02/05/2025 21:11

Surely this constant moaning to the press is exactly why he isn't talking to him? (If it's true)

This

Summerpugly · 03/05/2025 05:45

No
Makes the king seem more normal
Many many families have one child causing problems
Harry is a spoilt child who never grew up
Sick of his winge winge winge personality
He's irrelevant now

Sporadica · 03/05/2025 05:45

Khrushchev and Kennedy had a functional and professional reason to keep an open line of communication. Does it really matter to anyone outside the RF whether Charles and Harry WhatsApp each other or not? To paraphrase Trump (sorry), Harry doesn't have any cards.

whitewineandsun · 03/05/2025 05:29

I wouldn't trust him or talk to him, either. He could be wearing a microphone for Netflix or taking notes for his next book.

Harry did this to himself.

Canopies · 03/05/2025 05:25

At this point it seems like Harry is using every tactic in the book to try to destroy his father.

Harry is a nasty piece of work, who lies for a living, it would be hard for anyone to maintain a relationship with him.

Lesina · 02/05/2025 21:21

This 100%. What ‘ the firm’ did to those children to satisfy the ghoulish demands of ‘the people’ was barbaric. He was 13 years old and expected to display his grief like an entertainment show. Horrific

Huh?
I thought this is what happened:
The Queen took the boys straight up to Balmoral on receipt of news of Lady Diana's death. People went absolutely bonkers and Tony Blair suggested to the Queen that she give the baying mob the flesh they were after and put the boys on display in London or there might be a constitutional crisis.
Have I just made up that version of events? I've never seen any of the fictionalisations of that time, neither The Crown or The Queen, nor the Lady Di film. That's my memory - the tabloids were crazy with demands the boys be brought back down to London.
Maybe it's like the Berentsein Bears thing and I've just reinvented the past.

Mothership4two · 03/05/2025 04:48

He knows that the RF can't comment which must be incredibly annoying for them. I would be surprised if he told outright lies (but who knows?) but he could put a significant spin on things and they have no redress (other than leaking to the press).

I'm not a Royalist and haven't seen this interview, but his airing of his family's dirty laundry in public (and airing it for profit) is pretty distasteful (to me) and the fact that they are gagged by protocol isn't a good look (for him).

Jcak · 03/05/2025 04:42

People have short memories. Charles himself has wrote a book criticising the queen and Philip as parents, saying Philip was a domineering bully and he was emotionally neglected by the queen who was distant and detached and it was Nannie’s that did all the parenting. So that’s okay for him to do it but not Harry? And do you not remember the tell all interviews Charles gave?

Velmy · 03/05/2025 04:05

TheAutumnCrow · 03/05/2025 02:05

And there’s the Gabor Maté interview which was pay per view, from memory.

’Ongoing drug use is a fundamental part of my life’.

Here’s a link to an Australian media source, if you didn’t pay to see it.

www.news.com.au/entertainment/celebrity-life/royals/prince-harry-reveals-ongoing-drug-use-fundamental-part-of-my-life/news-story/ab9bd142c14c77ee0320a168455fbaf4?amp

He's talking about weed and Ayahuasca. Bit of a stretch to call him a drug addict.

The government of the day demanded the children be trotted out

Charles and Diana's marriage was a mess but they were visibly getting along before her death

Harry was given mental health support as a child as an adult as well as more support than any of us would be given on the NHS

Charles tried he wasn't given a very supportive upbringing wrote a book about it he is a very emotional man his father was critical of him because of this it's not a secret

Charles has been open publicly to reconciliation with his son and Harry has denied him now the tables have turned Harry wants his dad back and his dad is saying no

Remember his dash to London when it was announced the king had cancer? The following day Harry is on good morning America (I think) nattering about what was said how is that building trust?

Harry isnt used to being told no it shows

Where’s the evidence that it was the government that “demanded the children be trotted out”? Have never seen that anywhere 🙄

DrummingMousWife · 03/05/2025 03:54

If he was my son I would never speak to him again.
he sold out his brother, the brother who stood beside him throughout their grief and pain. That’s unforgivable by anyone’s standards.

If you want to talk about hypocrisy and forgiveness though, look no further than Meghan’s Dad; funny how there’s no forgiveness for him, don’t you think?

Thank you! It’s staggering they are pretending to feel so hard done by when they have done exactly the same to him.

Also how they hate/laugh at the monarchy and all the pageantry and tradition that goes with it and yet were enraged their kids weren’t involved in the coronation 🤷‍♀️ if it was and is such a damaging institution why would they want their kids to have any part of it and why fight for their rights to use royal monikers - just why?

Why? Hmmmm

let me think.

silentpool · 03/05/2025 03:51

For a 40 year old man, Harry is a whiny brat. If he didn't insist on playing out family matters in public, he would get on better with them. Why would anyone want to talk to someone who would then go to the media?

If he doesn't want to be a working royal, that is fine. However, people who don't work, do not get the perks of the job or salary.

Notsosure1 · 03/05/2025 03:45

TulaOfDarkWater · 03/05/2025 00:25

What hypocrisy? How on earth do you know Charles hasn’t forgiven Harry? Has Charles come out and said so?

Forgiving someone does not mean forgetting what’s happened nor does it mean you’re obligated to carry on a relationship; especially if it leaves you open to continuing hurt and upset.

It’s entirely possible to forgive someone, wish them well but carry without them in your life - no one is entitled to be in anyone’s life. Forgiveness doesn’t mean being a doormat and it certainly doesn’t mean that just because you forgive, you’re not entitled to your own boundaries.

If you want to talk about hypocrisy and forgiveness though, look no further than Meghan’s Dad; funny how there’s no forgiveness for him, don’t you think?

This man is still a boy full of hurt. All that moment and power and Charles couldn’t do the work or get the help to learn how to heal his family and the power of forgiveness . Not the role model we need
